For a PvE controller, fire epic is the only thing to even consider, fireball with containment is so good it's not even funny, the blast is great, shield is decent, and consume is good or great depending on your secondary.
Theres 2.5 viable epics for trollers.
1: Fire! Go for this if you want damage. Great AoE, good single target blast, good shield and consume if you could use some extra endurance.
2: Primal. This will make you a better controller basically. Nice blast, good shield, the awesome powerboost and conserve end if you have end problems.
3: Psi (this is the 0.5). Basically just take this if you want some res against psi. The attacks are nice but the AoE is the 4th power in the set so you will first be able to get this at lvl 47 whereas you can take Fireball at lvl 41.
For Earth/Rad I would definately recommend Fire (would recommend Primal if you want to PvP).

If you think that Fireball does less damage than Pési Tornado you have the picture of Psi epic...
My favorite is Psi, no doubt.
Mez resistance, cool looking shield and the best attack you can hope for a troller.
Fire is also very good for damage, from Primal Forces the only power worth picking is Power Boost wich is VERY useful on a mez heavy troller like yours, the blast does pants damage, the shield only has res to Smash and Lethal and Conserve Power is a bit MEH on a troller...
You can get Fire to have lots of damage straight away, then respec to Psi whne you're 47-48 to get the best epic pool for trollers(imo)

From what I can see, if you want to PvP with a troller the only way to go is Psi, Indom Will can save you lots of times and save you loads of BF slots in the insp tray on wich you can put something else.

Strange, everything i have ever heard about mental blast has been awful. Is it different in the troller epics as i know that /psi defenders usually feel quite resentful at having to take it at lvl 1.

Indeed, Mental Blast does good damage but has like 15 minutes of rooting animation....
Psi Tornado on the other hand is damn awesome.
i went with primal due to power boost and temp invunrebility.. but i wouldnt get conserve power it was a big mistake i think i used it 5 time from 41-50 i would get the power blast instead

Well...
The blast in Primal Forces is actually the joint-highest damaging single-target attack in the controller epic pools (the same as Ice Blast and Hurl Boulder). With Containment I can one-shot a yellow minion. Conserve Power may be slightly useless for Controllers who have a +recovery power in their secondary, but it would be very useful for Sonics, FF etc which don't.
And as to Fire vs Psi: I'd rather have a slightly less damaging power from level 41 instead of having to wait until level 47, and being forced to take other powers to get it. Indomitable Will is pretty useless now it can no longer be made perma and I think that having Power Boost in PvP will be much more useful - it helps against all foes, not just those that can mez.
For alot of PvP controller sets primal is the way to go, because powerboost is so awesome. Imagine having all your slow being twice as efficient. An ice troller is normally annoying, but if he has powerboost you only get to press your powers 1 time for the next 30 secs. Believe me its worth it.
Damage wise psy isnt all that, the blasts sucks for PvP. The only reason for taking psy for PvP is if you play support for your toon, but even then powerboost is often better. For most PvP controller builds psy is the worst to take. I tried fighting nad troller, one of the better PvP controllers on my blaster, he absolutly demolished me when he has powerboost, but he changed to psy epic on live and I got a draw. The difference was the easy kills after powerboost + lingering radiation, I wasnt able to move or recharge anything. when I was fighting psy I was able to run alot so he didnt drain me of so many BFs, another thing powerboost is excelent at. On test I was out of BFs after 6 mins on live he didnt drain em all. Being out of BFs after 6 mins against a troller sucks. Besides indom will isnt that hard to stack holds through.
And for PvE fire is just the best.
But hey Im a min / max'er, All the epics are good.
BTW ice storm doesnt get containment until I7.

Simply disagree. Mind lacks in the damage department due to very long animations. I tend to think this is the worst epic for PvP (after earth, but noone even considders that one). Primal/fire are by far the best PvP choices.
Your mez protection should be covered by kins/emps/sonics. Not a power with a silly recharge.
Psy damage isnt that frequent in PvP. Only defenders and a few trollers have it, so the shield is no worse or better than any of the other. Fire shield is by far the best.

Have a 44 Earth/Rad troller and have taken Ice Epic... basically to give me a nice blast and I was thinking that Stone Cages + Ice Storm could = some nice containment damage.
However....
Am not bothered by the ice shield (it looks horrible for one) and Hibernate - well its useful I guess (anyone know for sure if it disables the effects of my toggles like if I have cast RI on a group then go into hibernate I know the toggle is ON but is it actualy DOING anything (much like if you are a bubbler with ur big dispersion one on and go into PFF your teammates get no protection from disperson).
So...
I'm looking at my respec and thinking Fire or Psionic could be nice (any form of Psi defence and or res always nice - I HATE carnies - but I know I have to kill a lot to get enough illusions for my badge)...
Questions:
What epic do you like and why
Anyone got a pic of the Psi shield they can post?
Pyschic Tornado - good or meh? and is the knock an up/down/back (my regular Fire Fire blaster will kill me if I KB all her toys
A quick addon here - can anyone confirm the dam numbers on mental blast - I'm getting 6.4 with 3 SO Dam in hero builder which is more than Power Blast - was under the impression that mental blast was the weakest blast of the troller epics - comments?
