PvP Build
Were to start!
There are some huge differences in PvP and PvE builds that will leave you at a disadvantage if playing one build in the wrong area.
Some general idea are that PvP builds need a lot more accuracy slotting, as players have a different % to hit chance to NPC's.
There are also several powers that are a lot more effective in PvP than they would be in PvE. TP foe for example is a great PvP move and tactics is pretty much a must as it will allow you to see stalkers.
People have called for us to be given two builds for each alt, one for PvP and one for PvE with the game automatically switching between them, allowing different pool choices and enhancement slotting, the downside being you'd need to buy twice as many SO's.
Unfortuantely, at the moment, you have to make a choice between building for PvP or PvE
For most, if not all builds, movement is a lot more critical in PVP. Moving quickly in and out of range of powers, will annoy your opponent and give you better opportunities to take someone down.
So slotting unsurpressed movement abilities is very critical in PVP. The regular travel powers, except teleport, all have a movements surpression of about 2-3(not sure how long exactly) secs after using an attack, which leaves your vulnerable for attack. Slotting powers like swift, hurdle and combat jumping, will greatly increase your survivability in PVP.
You skip a lot of AoE's which are good in PvE, but either takes too much endurance, have too long an animation time or does bad single target damage.

I generally skip them anyway, but that's just me. The Earth AoE hold might be the exception to the rule for PvP, given how it works.

Volcanic Gasses is actually pretty pants in PvP. Tested it in the arena and had a blaster run across it 7 times before he was held...simply not good enough
If your opponents where standing still maybe...

You can make a build which suits both comfortably, you just have to pick the powers that serve well in both and slot accordingly.
What you slot in PvE can potentially serve just as well in PvP.
This can be done, as I have it on my blaster and he serves well in both environments, whats needed each style applies to the other.
Getting to know the game and the AT, powers etc better will help in the long run more than anything.
I'm aware you design a toon specifically for a set purpose.
For example, my Stalker needs a respec to do better in PvP, as he is omly OK/average at the moment. However, I will be considering his PvE strengths/weaknesses when I do.
Magic word here: Balance. Design for your needs or wants.

Good post, my build preforms exceptionally in both PvP and PvE, I beat pure PvP builds with it quite often.

Very true...forgot about that 'cept the fact I would still not have it in my PvP build since in more or less every fight I've been in people have been speed boosted thus making them slow resistant
I can see the uses for it, but because of the long recharge I would probably go for other powers.

Some ATs/Sets can easily work for both, I remember 1st reading Ice Assassin's guide to Ice/Nrg when the arena came out. He basically said it was a pure boss killer but fact is the combo is equally good vs players.
Would guess spines as well as you can have the AoEs and also have 4 ranged attacks turning you into more of a Blapper then some blaster combos.
Force bubble and phase though arnt much liked in PvE by many but certainly have their uses in PvP.
Probably the most change between PvP and PvE are in defender sets, +Acc for all and limited AoEs. Concentrating on burst damage and soft controls, buffs and debuffs and maxed movement IMO. Oh and having an empath with only one attack.

Hi all,
I keep reading about PvE builds and PvP builds.
I was just wondering what the main differences between the 2 build styles are?
cheers y'all
