Epic powersets

Just got my Fire/Energy blaster to 41, just had a look at the epics and have to admit i was majorly disappointed.

Not sure what to take, so i was wondering whats the best one?

Electric has a hold and a res shield that does Slashing, Lethal and Energy resistance, as well as a PBAoE Disorient and a cone attack. Seems quite a nice little set.

Force is a mainly defensive set. Personal Force Field can be thrown up when retreating or in a dangerous situation, but can't be attacked through. Repulsion Field can help keep enemies out of melee range, but drains endurance. Temp Invun gives okay S/L resistance, and you get Force of Nature, a mini unstoppable that when used in a tough situation may just turn the tide.

These are personally my two favourites, followed by Munitions.

Yep the epic sets for blasters are abit poor, with my blaster ive had pyro, munitions and i now have elec, and apart from it being the best pick for and elec blaster its also the best one ive had.

Although imo static discharge and emp are abit poor if you go with it id just take the shield and shocking bolt, both are good and shocking bolt will give you a nice hold if slotted right.

Even getting the shield good slotted (fire got s/l+fire res, ice s/l def) it wont realy change your squishie-ness. I took the epic that suits my character most, but ice in that case is 1 of the worse epic sets. Elec powers i dont like, when they 'miss' it still shows a 'hit' animation.
So it became force, specialy FoN with TI gives you cap s/l (for blaster) and pretty good resist vs the rest, also very good end-regen. Since i was already used to timed powers (rage), you can use it very often. PFF is damn good after popping your lvl32 power, quick Cab and turn it on.

Hi. looking at your location I guess you PvP a bit so ill give you a run down on what is good for PvP and why.

Electric- Best protection from the epic armour's. I read its the same as having 60% more HPs. If you like to blapp this is the 1 to get. The hold is also very good and everyone likes to have a hold

Cold. The armour isnt very good but once power boosted it makes you very hard to hit. I have this on my ice devices blaster and love it for 2 reasons. 1. Snow storm, This is an amazing power( -speed -recharge -fly) it interupts most powers that can be such as snipe and heal self. 2. Hibernate is a great power. use it as a panic button or as a heal and for end recovery. All your toggles stay up while you use it which is a great bonus.

Force- Armour gives you good protection. PFF is a great panic button but be warned you can still be hit if your opponent uses Aim BU or def debuffs. FoN is a great power as said above. only problem is you can only use it once in a 10min fight. That said its still worth having.

The other 2 I havnt tried so I wont guess what they like. And to be honest I havnt seen to many PvP blasters with them. Hope this helps you

can u only use fon once in 10 minutes even with 3 recharges in it :O?

Got Force and not tried the others; purely because it fitted Weasel's story.

The really nice thing about FoN is that it only really needs recharges; so you can get it at 49 with no real losses; leaving lots of lovely slots to play with earlier

Once in FoN, you can tank up to Red's (Note TANK), but like Unstoppable, watch that down time. It's End Recovery makes it perfect to use if you're Nova'ing or Mega-blasting and it's animation is short enough for an effective panic button.

The Force Epic is great. As said above, Temp Invuln and Force of Nature are the stars of the set. Click FoN before taking down an AV and you just won't die.

I was wrong I tested it and if you use FoN at the beginning of a fight it will be recharged after 7mins.(as long as you dont die a few times making hasten drop) So as long as your not dieing you can have 4mins of FoN in a 10min fight which is awesome. IMO this puts the force epic way out in front. Test was done with 3 recharge in hasten and FoN.

Told you so

Think its just over 6 mins to recharge and given its lasts 2 mins your vulnerable for 4. Nice of the devs to put in PFF into the same set with aid self blasters are not so squishy .

If you take high damage prime and secondary would say force is far ahead of the others as it covers a blaster's main weakness. Quite shocked that so many PvP builds out there dont have it TBH.

That could be due to the fact that PvP Zones won't allow Epics as of yet

Arena does though and alot of the high level PvP goes on there .

cud be because the majority of high lvl pvp arena action is done in teams and in a good team the blaster shud be covered by team mates so there are more useful ancillary pools

I may be missing something here, but why on Earth would you feel that it's not worth slotting for Damage Resistance? A base +RES of 35% to almost everything is great, but it's nowhere near the cap so still well worth slotting.

i second that. Having 3res/3recharge (was that possible anyway, totaly forgot) is 'dah way'. Since ED you have too many slots to use anyway, those 3 wont realy make that difference.

I'm still running my char pre-ED, only flipped a few end-reds and recharges in some powers, just doing fine. I do wonder, since powerboost 'boosts' all secondairy, will it boost the end-regen also of FoN?

Realistically you're still a Blaster though, so 3 extra slots of Acc/Dam/Recharge could be better used elsewhere unless you're having to tank an AV; and then you better put it down in 2 minutes. PvP might be worth the extra RES, but I'm not yet convinced on PvE. What are your Team mates doing?

Posted

I don't have anywhere else to put those slots. I abstained from the melee power path with Zortel, works fine for me, my clicks are slotted 3 recharge, and my attacks are all six slotted, well, apart from Power Push. The rest of the slots go into my Force Epic, and anything else I can think of. Like... Rest! Plus FoN will help with all those little things like soloing EB's without having to chug as many oranges and purples. (I'm looking at you, Envoy!)

Having only ever put it in by respeccing it into a lvl50 I never had the slightest trouble finding slots for it. It may vary for other powersets, but Elec has relatively few attacks and I haven't taken all of them. After six-slotting those I have got, there's still plenty to go around.

Three slots of RES puts you at the 75% cap for S/L (combined with TI) and approx. 55% to everything else except Psi. It means I can comfortably go toe-to-toe with Zeus-class titans despite not being able to drain their End, which I consider A Good Thing.

As far as team-mates go, unless they have Sonics what the aren't doing is adding to my Resistance, so being able to do so myself Another Good Thing. Of course, any defences they do provide help me to be even more of a close-quarters force of destruction, which is very welcome indeed.
