I understand... EM/EA are the boss-killer class?

Hey, I heard somewhere.. that if you want a stalker who can destroy any boss, you're better off going with an EM/EA stalker, 'coz of Assassin Strike, Total Focus and Energy Transfer...

Who else thinks this? (more evidence for me to seriously consider making one)...

Posted

energy is v.powerful yes, but any stalker type can own bosses easily, it sthe elites/heroes n av's that pose the probs

Posted

EM is the boss killer set because it hits the hardest, i don't know about EA i'd think EM/SR is the boss killer as it has the higest defence and is positional defence, so best defence and best damage. Most time in hide=most criticals.

It would be nice to say yes but ED hit unplanned builds quite hard

Concept character doesn't mean you have to take weak powersets, you know.

Surely they're shouldnt be any weak powersets...

Never said that at all but like someone said there shouldnt be weak power sets. In any case I fail to see what possible constructive comments you have made.

Hmm? I don't think you should be talking about constructive comments here, my dear.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Anyway.

EM is, in my experience, a very powerful powerset; some of the Assassin Strike's I've made have torn the hell out of Purple Boss mobs, and there's still significant power when you're forced to scrap. The disorient is a nifty little side-effect, but you need to watch out when using Energy Transfer.

I'm still faceplanting because I don't watch my HP when using it.

You are right of course. It is not a valid comment . It is a valid question . Given the increasing number of toons made according the favourite powersets. Not how players seem to want them according to immagination. I honestly beleive we are seeing less of these types.

And whats wrong with that?

I just see it as a shame that immagination is being left out of the equation is all.

In fact one of the reasons ED was said to be brought in was because people were making cookie cutter builds and so on. Its likely we will see another nerf from this in time idf you want to see it from a game mechanic view. So there could be a fallout from this.

I mean Im all for choice dont get me wrong. Thats why I hated ED it stunted choice.

Smoking Demon's guide to creating a successful character:

1) Concept;
2) 4 hours in character-creation module;
3) As many Power Pools as possible;
4) 4 more hours in Icon/Facemaker;
5) Delete character and remake with different powersets because "concept didn't feel right";
6) Never see any high-level content ever.

Sounds horribly familar to me. Apart from the Icon/Facemaker part - I can never afford it.

I swear that Smoking Demon (currently a Fire/Fiery Assault Dom, although that could change by tomorrow) must be the most remade character on the EU servers.

And are you saying that Rockjaw won't even lend you a few inf for a new cossie?

I know of at least 6 permutations of Smoking Demon off the top of my head - Dark Miasma/Dark Blast Defender; DM/DA Scrapper (got to the 30's before being deleted); Dark Miasma/Trick Arrow Defender; Archery/Fire Blaster; BS/Regen Scrapper; Fire/Fiery Assault Dominator (current). Sadly, I think I'm possibly missing some variations as well.

Luckily, he has a handy network of friends to shout at him whenever he deletes/recreates a new toon, hopefully we've beaten it out of him by now.

[/ QUOTE ]I tend to come up with concepts by thinking about powerset combinations, rather than thinking of a character and trying to find sets suiting the concept afterwards.

You forgot points 2b and 2c:

2b: Realize that the name you wanted, that the concept completely hinges on, is already taken.
3c: Start over from scratch. Repeat until, I don't know, you roll a natural 20 on name creativity.

Smoking Demon was remade earlier today as Fire/Trick Arrow Controller.

*sighs*

If anyone sees him out on the streets of Paragon, feel free to punch him in the head as hard as you can.

TA is a great Controller secondary, much better than as a Defender primary. When Purple Sprite gets to 35 and has tried all the powers I am going to write a guide.

I really should do something about this signature.

Oh, I'm not criticising Trick Arrow as a powerset - I've pimped it as a great 'troller tool ever since I theorised about the horrors a Mind/TA could wreak (right on these very boards); I'm just exasperated by Smokie changing his toon a-[censored]-gain. >_<
