How can i amuse my self how! In a team with a tank an a controller i just sit back pop a buff each 2 minutes and blast for pathetic damage. The las time when i had any fun was with a 3 blaster 1 scrapper invincible team.

Well, why moan about it? Delete the character. I like my empath, it's quite relaxing.

For an always busy Defender, make a Kinetics Defender. They aren't so much about keeping the team alive as some Defender sets, they can always be doing something to make the team own the mobs that little bit more.

Well, that's the main problem with empaths. They're the best at saving bad teams, but they can't do much to help a good team.

Try to play in pick-up groups more often, or avoid teams with tanks/controllers.

If you want something very active, as someone else said you could try kinetics, or even better, storm.
If you want to defend and be able to blast decent damage, try dark and rad (the -RES helps).

Kinetics is a very, very busy set; especially late in the game. In battle, you can happily provide a healing blanket and contant endurance, with a nice little ~300% damage buff. Before battle, you get to spam buffs across your teammates.

Unfortunately, ranged players will benefit the least, as a lot of Kinetics revolves around the group staying in a tight melee-ranged clump.

if a team is doing so well that all you're doing is occasional buffs, why not set the difficulty up more? if its set to invincible and you're still not having to drop any heals, try doing an AV mission next.... and so on and so on. if the team is fighting that far inside their comfort zone, then there's clearly room for upping the difficulty. personally i like to fight on the edge of death. mega-xp, mega-risk, mega-fun. I actually find that empathy can be a really stressful set if you're in a team that likes to push its boundaries.

to be honest, with a tank and controller the controller can quite often take over a chunk of the defensive duties. i've done many tf's with no defender, but a good illu/empathy troller i know. again, with small teams, the mobs are smaller and lower lvl, and theres less people to heal, so the heals you do are used on the same people rather than distributed. find a bigger team. invite some lower lvls from ur sg to sidekick. theres lots of options.

Perhaps, with better slotting of your secondaries you wouldn't find your empath so boring?
I don't mean to sound harsh, but, you do have attacks for a reason. I found it a challenge slotting my attacks, so I picked my two favourites (Will domination and Telekenetic blast) and slotted them as best I could, It made duo with my pet tank alot less boring, and also made me a bit more viable in brilliant teams, you know, the 'for god sake why don't you people take any damage!" types ^__~
..so yus, go for the offender option, we empaths are not just healobots you know

Hehe, yes if you want to play by the seat of your pants give kinetics a go.

Go out and find yourself a blaster, any blaster type will do really, for real fun pick something like fire with lots and lots of AoE's. Make friends with said blaster and anytime you are on team with the blaster.

If you are good at being an empath the blaster will remain alive (mostly, this isn't guaranteed no matter how good you are) and will worship the ground you walk upon. You will never become bored as every moment of your playing time will revolve around fighting impossible odds and gravity to stop the blaster from falling over. If you find you aren't able to keep the blaster reasonably safe you might want to think about a change of career. Only the very dedicated can cope with a truely suicidal blaster.

Here endeth the lesson.

p.s. You should be warned that if you are successful at keeping your pet blaster alive you will never be free of him/her, you will be stalked by your blaster to the ends of the earth and the end of time, even moving to a different game won't save you.

I miss my petblaster *sniffs* and pet scrapper "I am invincible.. let me just attack this cute little mob of +3 all by myself and see if I can get people's attention"

"whoops died again"

Boy did they keep me occupied

I need a new pet blaster ><

having played a monk in guild wars i was looking for a hero to have similar abilities.

came across the empathy build and am having a great time.

i've chosen empathy/archery. it suits me to a t as i'm able to heal ppl from distance and also provide covering fire. it also suits my biography perfectly being archery.

i orignally tried it with psi blast and energy blast. i found that psi took too long to complete, where as energy felt as if i was missing quite a lot of times.

i'm looking forward to working my way through the levels and exploring the archery set a bit more.

I love my empath. I gues its the vareity from scrapping. ANd I find a good hectic mission is so much fun keeping everyone healthy and buffed. Plenty of action in larger teams.

I have both a emp defender and a eng blaster and love playing both. My emp is just starting out, I must admit that Ive done a couple of missions where Ive put heal on auto, made my defender follow the team tank. I have gone off to feed myself come back to the PC and the team is still happily oblivious to the fact that I have left. Everybody is still alive . I admit it was in very low levels. I currently play with a group of guys with a spread of AV's. Usually 2 tanks 2 blasters and a scrapper. They keep me busy and they are an experienced team, so its fun. There is nothing more boring than wandering around a mission nothing to do.

Either just do invincible missions or team with people that have "powerlevel me please" in their charachter description. 9 times out of ten they'll be newbies and you'll be on the edge of your seat all day!

Empath is a fantastic set, my first main was a 28 healer, and i loved the whole set. To be fair i got bored and created doom and have been happy ever since but i will definately go back to my healer once i've played with the Kheldian sets

Oh no to have my empath on your team is to get the full service buffs and all which is half an emps job in my opinion.

Yep, if Fort is available and not being used, go stick it on someone! Make sure the squishies are CMed. Work out the best time to drop RA/RegenA.

Empathy isn't just about heals, it's about buffs too. A well-buffed team is a happy team!
