Just how important is aim?
Well I gather it gives a 100% accuracy boost (roughly equivalent to 3 SOs - actually better now that ED is in place), and a 66% damage boost (roughly equivalent to 2 SOs). It has a 10 second duration and a 90 second base recharge. With 3 recharge SOs this is dropped to ~45 seconds, so downtime would be ~35 seconds.
It's real nice for pesky high defence types, such as force field generators, rikti drones and the like, but is also nice as a general damage and accuracy boost, especially when used in series with Build up.
I think a lot of people use it (and/or build up) as an opener at the start of a fight, to clear away a particularly troublesome mob very quickly, and I agree in an extended fight I sometimes forget to use it at all after the fight has started, but it is a very useful power.
If you don't like it, you're not required to take it - feel free to take something you feel would be more useful - but it can be put to good use if you choose to.

With my sonic/energy blaster I need to use aim to be certain of at least one hit every two trys against mobile targets of +2lvs to me and thats with triple acc SOs in mst my powers.
Its a vital part of my opening gambit against foes in PvP and damned handy to get rid of those bleeping council types..

It's better than that, it gives a 100% tohit buff. Against normal mobs, like you say, it's roughly equivalent to 3 acc SO. Against mobs with defense or that use tohit debuffs it's even better.

It also gives a 62.5% damage buff, which is not to be sniffed at, although the to hit bonus is definitely it's biggest merit.

That doesn't make sense.

[/ QUOTE ]It does, as Accuracy and ToHit are 2 different things. If the enemy has high defence, 100% ToHit buff will be more effective than 100% ACC buff from enhancers.
ToHit = Accuracy - Defense.
Say I have 60% base accuracy against 20% defense. ToHit = 40%. If my accuracy is buffed by 20%, ToHit = 80 - 20 = 60%. If my ToHit is buffed by 20%, ToHit = 60 - 20 + 20 ... 60%. An accuracy buff and a ToHit buff are the same thing.
I think it is a must, as combined with build up you become super accurate and super powerful, means you can take on a lot higher if you are hunting or in a tight situation as using it with AoEs you can take out mobs easily
JUST TAKE IT!

actually, there is ToHit, Accuracy and chance to hit
found this formula on the US boards:
Chance to Hit = MINMAX(.05, .95, (MINMAX(.05,.95, BaseTohit + BuffTohit - Debufftohit - TargetDef)) * (BaseACC + EnhanceACC) )
So for a power with 75% base tohit against a foe with 0 DEF we get chance to hit = (75-0)*100 = 75% chance to hit, which is what most powers have.
add a 20% to hit buff and we get (75+20-0)*100 = 95%
add a 20% ACC buff and we have (75-0)*(100+20) = 90%
So tohit buffs are generally better than acc buffs
*MINMAX(x,y,z) means theat the number z wont be smaller than x or larger than y
edit: here's the link to the page where I found the formula, given by a dev.

actually, as an en/en blaster i dont have any good AoEs except some KB that i dont think do much damage.
i guess people are saying i should take it
just dislike the thought that i might end up using it less then once per fight

Compared to Build-Up? I didn't realise the damage buff was that much
I still love my Build-Up...maybe the Acc buff works the other way round?
AFAIK
Aim is +100% Acc, +60% Dam
Build up is +60% Acc, +100% Dam (Capped of course)

Get it, slot it, love it like it was Hobo's mum
Take it. Slot it. Use it. Love it. But not like it was Hobo's mum. Please.
Ball Lightning and Build-Up it is then! FTW!
aim is aower u should have imo, i played for about 8-9 months without it as a blaster and kicked myself so bad when i got it on my 2nd run through!
+100% tohit
+67% dmg
recharge is good wnough to use each mob or more if u have 3 recred and hasten running.
PvP wise is a MUST!
consider a tohit or 2 if u are using it for pvp purposes.
if u still want to hit more get tactics
have fun
Plight
P.S. build up is equally as impotant, also note that blaster do sub scrapper damage without these 2 powers (if they are available) and its the self buffs which let u get above the silly 200% ish dmg range that ED imposes.
IMO its a must for blasters. AIM + BUILD UP + Snipe no better way to start off a battle. I use it all the time. AIM + BUILD UP + NOVA what more can u say, CARNAGE.
P.S.I have played many character types but nothing is more fun than going Nova in the middle of a MOB.

something i sometimes put across but didnt here this time : / ...
Aim,BU,snipe is an ok starter if u are a ranged blaster type, for the melee intense its less good, and this is why.
I run in, and if its a big mob, aim, BU, ball lighting (AoE)/Short Circuit (PBAoE, either order, depends), havoc punch, charged brawl, thats four attacks, and i wouldnt mind saying if i didnt want to use SC i could get a blast extra in (i dont use single target blasts). If its a smaller mob (4-5 or less), i waltz in and aim, BU, havoc punch, charged brawl, thunder strike... whatever, this is only three attacks but the last has a long animation (total focus style), but in those 3 attacks ive killed 3 things, done minor AoE damage to everything and KBed everyhting. now i might be rambling, but in the time it takes to aim, BU, snipe, run/sprint/hover/jump (but not tp so much, although 2 sec animation or so), i have prolly just hurt one enemy, maybe killed them, and got a stack of ranged aggro and snipe having a 4 second animation then say 2 secdonds to run into melee (cos face it, blasts even with aim and BU are a joke now, especially soloing the highest two reps), so 6 seconds to kill 1 mob, pretty laaaaaame if you ask me, which is why as i've said a million times before, blasters had melee as long as they've had range powers, melee for blasters is not broken, it's a simple part of the risk/reward system in CoH.
long story short, snipe wastes precious part of your 10 seconds slef buff from aim/BU/PB/BR etc and then running even more, just get stuck in and melee their [censored], alternatively if you are a fire blaster, get stuck in and fire breath/ ball/inferno ftw (or reroll).
hope that made some sense, and on an aside, even as a blaptroller i keep snipe, nothing else other than my long range hold which i'd rather save for when things are near) can hit a runner, and i'm not the swiftest blaster around if you havent seen me , so i use snipe to mop up, also a stalker can do what he likes but if that snipe hits him with defiance as he runs and u got 1 good melee in, he may well *squish*, and damn him to hell for being a pesky stalker!!!!ARGH!!1one1!

Have Some Stars
Ive been questioning the importance of the aim power and would like to ask you guys why it is so great.
the acc increase, is it big? couldnt aim be easier guaranteed by running 3 acc slots and not having to have a click every 2 attacks? ive only tried it abit but thats the amount of attacks i feel i can push by it(or just 1 snipe)
what about the damage increase, anyone got figures on that?
im not really a big fan of short power-up-other-powers powers as i feel that i'll forget to use them or will get detracted focus actual fighting evasion etc.
im fealing newbish but please post your interest in having Aim
