I imagine mind/psi would be pretty decent in PvE, psi being so heavily unresisted, and mind being very big on it's holding powers...the only thing it doesnt get is a pet
Unless you view confused drones as pets, of course.
Gravity is also quite heavy in it's control ability, and the pet is also a control menace!

GAH!!!!

Mind/Psi is a GREAT set, dont' expect to do much on the damage side of things if your going for holds, but let me tell you this, you at least stop the enemies from smacking you with your holds, something other dominators lack a bit on as the enemies can usually attack through their holds.

And Dom's aggro magnets... O so heavy on the aggro!

As for pets, *shrug*
Don't get one, unless you do count the confuse power.

It just irks me slightly ever so much that you loose out on XP for it.

Now hold on their, I'm no xp meiser and I know that confuse can be used to exteremely great effect, it's just annoying that the others get pets of their own, that give them full help and xp and mine doesn't!

Other than that little gripe about the set, I'm a great fan of it... now if only I can get pple to stop darned AOE'ing the groups awake right after a sleep!

If I were to start a second dominator now, it would be Plant/something. Plant seems like a very strong set with some very interesting powers.

IMO almost the most important thing about secondaries is the self-buff, as it seems to accentuate the general nature of the set.

/Fire or /Thorn for damage (Fiery Embrace or Aim, and attack powers have DoT. Thorn slows as well)
/Energy or /Ice for increased control (Power Boost, and knowckback/slow secondary effects)
/Psi i think gets some kind of endurance buff? It's generally a bit lowish on damage but I hear the final power is awesome

I play Ice/Ice, which is a very team-friendly control-oriented set IMO. I like it quite a lot but honestly , I think Plant would be stronger.

If I were to start a new one (and I won't till mines 40, i'm a stickler for not alting ) I'd do an Ice/* one.

Although I'd prefer to have an earth one!!! *nudge developers in ribs* or Water, I'd really like some water sets.

Just so you know, using confuse will most of the time increase XP over time, since you can go through mobs faster with confuse.

I have restarted two, and fire seems very friendly for damage for a Dominator, while Mind will surely have the best control. Plant/Psy also appealed to me, but that would be 4 slots taken up with dominators out of 12, a bit much maybe.

Power Boost is lovely, and does help my primary a lot, ice slick is the main controling power I have from that one, I guess you're not really looking at the group holds, cause if you blink they wear off.

Really?
So Ice isn't much of a holdy?
I like my Mind holds, everything is 2 acc 2 hold and 2 rech-reduc.

There's only a 5 ticks drop between my mass sleep and when I can hit it off again, but then I have all my other holds as well to use.

I've been able to control 3 groups, even 4 once, although not for extremely long... darn AOE attackers don't they know the one's with the ZZZ's will wake up and smack me? and the one's with the circles are ok, 'cause their just stunned? *sigh*

Ice just seemed like the next best one to fit my concepts after mind.

So far I've done my 2 psi brothers (hero/villian).
And it may still take me a while before my next, but Ice seemed good.

Ice gets its AoE hold at level 26. It has very long recharge and very short base duration (80% of the controller version, which is already very short). When I first got it I didn't know whether to laugh or cry as the base duration at lvl26 was really laughably short, basically so short that there was no point of ever using the power as it's PBAoE and does nothing except get you killed. Accuracy totally sucks as well.

However, add some slots and it's a lot better, add Domination and it's better than the controller version, add Power Boost and it can really turn the tide of a battle you're losing. The recharge is still so long that it's mostly situational and I tend to only use it as a panic button.

The single target hold is pretty good and I never thought it lacks duration-wise, although it too is at 80% of the controller version. That's all the holds Ice gets. Instead it has great soft control in Ice Slick, Arctic Air and Shiver.

Edit: Oh, Jack Frost has a hold too, and often helps stack holds on bosses.

Depends on what you wanna do.

If you wanna solo a lot I can recommend grav/enr (pick up propel) because it's the most blasty combo I've had so far. Singularity will make your soloing life soooo much easier too. It's like having a pet grav controller in your pocket. Warn you though, this can feel a bit control light compared to other sets.

If you wanna team a lot a plants dominator will do -very- well, then it's up to you what to do with your secondary. Personally I like ice on the side for the slow. Also has powerboost like energy, that's a big plus.

Not taken Shiver, though is my plan at 49, if there's nothing else. AA and Chilling Embrace from my secondry seem fairly effective.

And yeah to clarrify the single target hold doesn't suffer its just the recharge and duration of Glacier that is shocking. I often use it with Power Boost if a group looks tough and then use my single target to lock down the bosses, but it is situational. Ice Slick is the key to make life easy for ice.

Think for pure pve, where presumably your not gonna solo all time, I would tend to go with ice/ice. Is a really nice set and has some great powers for a team. And power boost is definately quite useful

However if your gonna dabble in pvp mind is great

Plant is extremely nice, plenty of chances to confuse/sleep/hold your foes. I took the thorns secondary myself, but find myself hardly ever using it. I'm guessing the ice secondary would be a bit better for control.

Only problem I've had so far with plant is the pet, which has the IQ of a doorknob.

I find I use 3 attacks from thorns.....starting one. Thorntrops, is very useful...aka caltrops.
Ripper as a general attack. And slot for accuarcy and def debuff.
