have u found any powers pointless?
I heard Fallout from /rad is worthless... so never actually took it
CoX 50s: <ill/rad> <ice/ice> <fire/kin> <grav/sonic> <ice/storm> <earth/kin> <kin/elec> <cold/psy> <thugs/dark> <fire/dark> <dark/elec> <night widow> <EM/ninj> <mind/icy>
NO all primary powers in the controller sets have their uses. There are just some that are better. Better is too strong, there are just alot of powers that are more situational and therefor not taken cause powers like hasten and stamina are generally more usefull. Sleeps are a good example. They have their use but is very situational.
BTW I would pick fallout on my ill / rad troller If I could find room. I would pick it before mutation and chocking cloud because its fun.
Vengeance (Another power that requeres a dead teammate) is extremely good. Teaming with the PD's have shown me that this power can keep others from gaining a similar cruel fate.

controllers: Ill rad , grav rad, fire kin, ice kin
blaster: ice em
scrapper: spines sr
IMHO mutation is the better power for teaming, watch the enemies fly as the scrapper eats up that buff, will do more damage than Fallout ever will.
Um pointless powers.......... I wouldn't take an imo with the ice set cause it stops them falling down on the ice slick. If you dont take the slick then the imo's are fine. I guess its combinations of powers and what you want to do with them. Haven't taken the imos in my grav/storm build cause I want control and imos would boost my damage through containment but other powers neutralise enemies better IMHO

You're wrong.
I wouldn't take the single target immob that gravity gets, because at about level 6 you get an AoE immob anyway. Once the mob is locked down, you can go around spamming lift and killing enemies.
The best kind of control is one an enemy can't recover from. In other words, a kill.
Also, depends on your secondary if i was ice/storm i'd take that group immobize, use thunder clap then use the group immobilze as a "hold" power. That right there is another lock down power provided by ice and is a real effective one so always look at your secondaries and synergies between powers. I agree with imagin every power has a use. Some are more situational than others.

Of course... but I think what SHANNON is asking is which powers do people feel are less useful for given sets. I agree it all comes down to playstyle (deceive is an example for illusion - I like it, others don't) and to properly combining primaries and secondaries, but given that we do have to leave some out, which ones have you skipped or dropped and why?

I regret me taking Repel, from my secondary Kinetics. The end cost is HUGE and i hardly can use it. It does knock enemies succesfully away, but my whole end is drained in seconds. I would love to always have it on, cause it looks awsome, but that wont happen methinks. Dont take it, take Siphon Power or something instead .
Tornado from the Storm set. Dirty horrible power. Don't let anyone say otherwise. I've seen people use it in missions too. Completely useless. Like recruiting yourself the worst AOE Blaster in the world, blindfolding them and then telling them that 5 Freak Tanks are chasing their character. Wind em up and watch em go.
Had it for a while as I thought it might be alright solo when the mobs are thin enough that it won't cause too much aggro. It doesn't even do decent damage! Thank god for the I5 respec.
I don't bother with Thunderclap either but at least it would be useful. .
Going to use thunderclap with wormhole, at least that's the plan. I think. Bah long way off

Yep I'd use Thunderclap if I had some form of immobilize to stop them wandering off as they do. I suppose Snowstorm would slow their staggers down but they'd still scatter.
Mostly it will be in the build for panic reasons, I get lots of panic when I'm a controller

I find it strange mostthe powers you have mentioned is from the secondary. IMO that are defender powers.

Er how would that work? thunderclap is a disorient? and wormhole is also a disorient but moves a mob to a different location? That combo seems daft imo. If your going to couple thunderclap with a power make it the group immobilize.
Oh and as a panic button wouldn't dimension shift from the gravity primary work better?
my 2 cents
The most pointless thing for me I think is every travel power that isn't Superspeed, in most cases.
World of Jackcraft.
I know it's faster but I have to say I really didn't enjoy super-speed. I found myself too often having to run up stairs, or jump at a wall that was too high like a bluebottle trying to get out a window. Fly on the otherhand is slow but so much fun - when I first got it I spent about 30 minutes just playing, and when you're flying to the mish you just get to a safe cruising altitude and then you're free to talk to the team all you like, often getting the SS-ers killed when they stop to answer.
I found O2 in the storm set to be useless - a one shot heal with no real umph, I've never saved anyones life or gotten the team through a tough fight with it, not without a rad/dark/emp healer to do the hard work.
O2 boost is pretty terrible but I have used it to unmez sleepers.
Plus I've saved a Squidies life with it a few times. But compared to other heals its terrible.
Agreed with Super Speed. Can be so headwrecking trying to get around when you're stuck to the ground. Used to use it with Carnifax, dropped it for Teleport which is a great power.
Well I like to be as effective as possible, Hasten comes before it, VERY good power, then Superspeed being a travel power you really don't need to slot to have the fastest (unslotted) travel power it's a no brainer.
You really don't need vetical travel in this game, if you really need vertical travel in missions or to just get around better go with slotted Hover.

Thunderclap is only a Mag 1 disorient, so you have to stack it with other disorients for it to mez Lts and Bosses.

Don't agree here. Non-vertical travel powers are a complete pain. Superspeed can be so annoying when you manage to fall into the sea and have to negotiate those ramps back up to get onto the docks. Striga being a prime example.
Not to mention Terra Volta (although I did get out of that enclosed area by jumping. Whats it called? The Chasm or Canyon or something. Took ages though. Was like playing Sonic or something). Faultline and Boomtown were horrible with Superspeed too. Not that you get many missions in them, thankfully.
Plus of course not everyone has any point in taking Hasten. My MM for example would find it a waste.

1. This is the Controller forum, so I'm talking about travel power for a Controller, not Masterminds.
2. Hasten rocks for Controllers, end of, and it leads up to the second fastest travel power in the game, end of. What's the point in taking Superjump/fly when it's slower than Superspeed, less usefull for runaways in missions and you can navigate any zone just fine with only it?
You get a better view and can do AFK traveling I suppose, like I said though Superspeed is a more efficient choice than anything else. Well, slotted Hover is good though.

As a heal it's pretty poor, but it's break free ability is great...and once you start fighting Malta and Carnies it's a godsend!

Erm, nope. TP is faster. If you want to be truely efficent getting around ALL zones, including Shadow Shards, TP is the way to go. Plus, as I and other mentioned the non-Z axis travelling of SuperSpeed is annoying in lots of zones such as Skyway, IP (hate it when I plop into the ocean and have to go find a ramp again) etc.
And I was pointing out that Hasten isn't needed on all builds really. That said I can't think of a Controller build that doesn't need Hasten, especially after the I5 changes to AOE holds.
Oh, thought of one. A */Kinetics probably could skip both.
i started this post in the blaster section but i have 1 of each AT anyway and thought it may be useful to ask the question here b4 i pick a bleep power for my controller.
anyway has anyone picked a power that seems to offer no edge at all when u have most of the other powerset powers?
