GGers at the Brighton Expo
Is it proper sized tables and chairs, or near sitting on the floor? If it's the floor, I'd better bring my A frame and hoist...
Does sound good though... Everyone else?

Japanese food is fantastic! Mmm, beef teriyaki....
As for sushi...prawn sushi is good, the rest I don't like, too slimey. Maki is fantastic.
Just remember, leave something on your plate so it isn't completely cleared, don't drink too much sake, and never, ever, punch your waiter in the face.
Well, I can't complain about something I've never tried before. According to a friend of mine, it's not "all seafood", which is good for me, as that always seems to do my stomach in, no matter how nice it tastes

I'll make sure we have Ellen with us with blue hair so we're recognisable.

But... I was going to wash the blue hairdye out before dinner so I could get properly dressed instead of looking like Fuse!

I'll be dressed as Max, so look out for the guy with a Trilby hat
My exercise programme hasn't quite reached the state where I can mimic Crow or Jason, so I guess I'll be me too. Besides, I can't do the accents all night.

Moshi Moshi is a sushi bar, one of the ones where you sit at a table and the dishes come round on a little conveyer belt and you just pick what you want.
FFM - I can't eat fish (don't ask, J will rant, I'm sure he's ging to try and slip something fishy on to my plate) and although you will have to eat seaweed, you won't be able to tell.
Just sit with me and I'll pick out all the non-fish stuff on the menu, I'm very very good at it.
Or we can try and see if there's a teppanyaki, I'm certain there has to be one (the ones with the big hot plate and the chef smashing eggs in the centre)
I'm not distinctive, so I'll grab Stef and be the blonde with her... I'd go as Min but a) I can't afford that much hairdye (sadly/fortunately I _do_ have the length), I don't have time to make her sera fuku, and I need to lose a lot of weight...Min's not anorexic, but she is stupidly thin.
mmmm, eating disorders, now there's a thought...
If you give Minako an eating disorder, we will do something horrible to you, you know that right?
And the chef in the middle flicking food at the customers is what Stef was referring to as "the egg trick."

With regard to Moshi Moshi:
A PDF of the 'menu' can be found here. Note that this only lists the platters and bento boxes which you order as you would a normal restaurant. The place also has the 'conveyor' system in which you select dishes priced by the plate. This is useful (not to mention fun) because it allows you to monitor your consumption-vs-meal budget. There is food other than fish.
There is a Teppenyaki restaurant in Brighton, but it's rather pricey and rather noisy. Plus, it's not within easy walking distance of the 'con, whereas MoshiMoshi is by the main Brighton carpark.

You know that 'Stop the Nerfs' Avatar? I need a 'Stop the Angst' Avatar, but I don't have time to mess about with GIF animation at the moment.
Well... As I said, I'll give anything a go at least once! I'm easy where we go... I can squeeze 4 other people in my car, and with Niall and Stefs big motor, I don't think distance from the Expo will be a problem...
The Teppenyaki sounds interesting, but if it's that noisy... Well... We don't want to hinder conversation to we?
One thing I do ask about MoshiMoshi... It's it decent english cutlery, or have I got to figure out how to eat with a couple of sticks?

It will be if those staying at the Expo for longer than the Sat want to get drunk. Hence, walking distance is good. Because Sake is nice. But thanks for the offer :-)
Teppenyaki is very nice. But it stops conversation with more than the person on your left or right, because you all sit around a huge table-sized cooking plate with a space for the chef in the middle.
Cutlery: I'm sure they can provide you with a spoon. But yes, it's chopsticks.
Ah.. I'd forgotten about the drinking bit... I'm staying at my sisters in Worthing so won't be able to partake of more than a single drink of something mild...
Hmm... Chopsticks... Well, if someone can show me how, I'll have a go...

Take both chopsticks in one hand, place bowl near mouth, shovel rice into mouth. Seems to be the standard method the Japanese use. About as elegant as eating wearing boxing gloves, but you have to go with the culture. When in Rome, wear a toga and all that.

Maybe I can get away with the sumo wrestlers technique...
Open mouth, tip bowl up, swallow, get another bowl...
Don't worry... I'm NOT turning up dressed like one!!

Sushi is easy, it comes in bite-sized pieces, you can use your fingers if you have to, but chopsticks are fairly easy to use.
Japanese rice is also a much stickier rice than chinese/american rice, so it sticks together in bite sized clumps which are easy to pick up with chopsticks.
If we're intending to make a long meal of it I suggest we order bento (boxes with a meal inside - I recommend ton katsu, gyudon or okayodon if you're not a fish fan, ton katsu is breaded pork, guydon is a beef and onion dish in a sweetish soy sauce, and okayo don is shredded chicken inside a poached omlette) and then treat the sushi more like tapas rather than trying to make a full meal of sushi - although it can be done!
That's a point, since I know you'll read this, wash a cup of rice when you get in please J, two if you want fried rice tommorow.
Just visited Moshi Moshi's website... There's a £50 voucher up for bookings of 8 or more...

Well, there are 8 of us, and we really ought to give them some forewarning for a group that large...
Aisla, you've been doing all the organisation so far, would you like to do the honours, or delagate?
I shall ring them tonight, hun. :-)
I may or may not eat much, rice probably. If the rest of the stuff doesn't appeal to me, I'll drink and chat and have something back at my hotel room.
Well... the okayodon sounds safe enough... Chicken omelette basically... But the gyudon... I checked.. it's not just a soy sauce the beef is in... It's SAKE and soy sauce!
I might avoid the sushi though.. I despise tuna and salmon... Depends on what it looks like I guess...

exactly what goes into the sauce depends on the place, I use Soy and Sugar in mine, but all the alcohol is cooked off anyway, so don't worry about driving, unless you also want a drink.
Z, I promise there will be things you will like, they've got a pretty wide selection of stuff that's almost familliar to western palettes.
As for the sushi - cucumber, pickles, sweet omlette, inari (sweet bean curd) there are lots of things that aren't saw fish in sushi - sushi means vinegared rice, sashimi is the raw fish, and while it will be there, there's loads of other stuff...
Well last night & yesterday were lots of fun!!
We all had a great time and had a nice chat & some great food! Also met GhostWidow, Rockjaw, Bridger & lots of others including Shadowhunta!
Lunch with everyone today, then back into the expo to get some more pics done (Miss Ellie's looks AWESOME !!! I shall scan it and show you!)
Posted from my phone!!

Well while you've all been away, those that remained at GG have plotted evilly for stuff to... Who am I kidding... I stayed for an hour then went and watched TV...
Sounds like you're all having a very good time...
Aye, lots of fun. More thorough post later. Checked out a bit earlier at 0930, got back a few minutes ago.
More thorough post!
I arrived at about half twelve on Saturday, discovered my room wouldn't be ready till 3pm. :< Left bags in car, parents went off to look around and I drifted about the convention hall trying to spot someone. Wandered about the stalls, got handed bits of paper, headed up to the Upstairs PlayNC stand and watched people play. Saw the backs of the heads of Silver Weasle and Stasis, listened in on some conversations (-What- was Bridger apologising about so much for!) then wandered about some more after briefly logging on as Z on one of the PC's and sending a tell to Spearmint. Headed back downstairs and picked up Mutopia X issue 5. Said hello to Bridger but I think he was trying to escape somewhere so no reply. Sat down to read my new comic and then found Ellie and J. Hugs followed, then more wandering about and collecting free bits of paper. Got briefly introduced to FFM after someone noticed the hair and pointed me in his direction (Never again am I using that blue dye, it runs like hell and takes ages to get out.), before going to meet Stef for more huggles. Waited about in the reception of the hotel for Niall to arrive, then they met my parents and chatted for a bit, before we headed off for a slightly late lunch.
Late lunch occured at Moshi Moshi, where Ellen learned to watch others before trying something new. When handed a pod with bean-y things in, I bit into the casing of the pod. Only when I noticed the others -opening- the pod did I find out they were actually quite delicious. Much chatting was done, rice consumed and other things eaten before we headed back so I could get into my room and change/remove coipous amounts of blue dye from my hair. Heading back down, I met up with the others and Max (With Hat!), Jed...name I can't spell/real name I've forgotten (Either Andy or Alex...) and plays Lyn and Cogs, and FFM properly, and saw sketches too! Found out from Stef that Bridger loiters at GG, briefly listened to people chat at him, waited in line for a chance to get a sketch done and then the convention started to close down for the night, and Rockjaw suggested coming back tomorrow(Well, today), but as we had to leave before the con opened... :<
We wandered off to the bar for a bit, where I proceeded to go into panic attack mode. :< Things were looking grim for me going out to dinner with the others, and I planned to head up to my room and have a drink with them later after the meal. Then I realised I'd be a fool to let panic attacks ruin a good evening and forced myself along, getting stolen by Ellie and Stef along the way. J also seems to have Doc's ability to disappear and return later, leading to a Freudian slip on Stef's part when describing it.
The 8 of us arrived at Moshi Moshi, sat down and ordered. Sumo was the bento box appitizer of the day, at a.. 7 to 8 choice, wasn't it? Everyone seemed to pick it for one reason: It had chicken in there, and I think a lot of us bar Ellie/J/Stef/Niall didn't have a clue what the rest were. Incidently, the aubergine that comes with it in one section was realised to be a stolen organ from Dr. Vazhiloks lab, which then proceeded to attack Lyn.
Appitizers were finished, more chatting and laughing happend, and plotting too. Main courses were brought to the table, where more of the above happend (Plus a drumroll for my first try of Tempura!). After finishing, we wandered back to the hotel. 9pm happened at this time, and the idea was thrown into the air to find a statue in Brighton to stand around, but instead snacks were bought and we went back to the hotel bar for a drink.
The hotel bar was packed to hell. :< So we chatted for a bit in main reception, took some photos (Dammit, one of my photos didn't save properly :< and then disperesed!
FFM and Lyn learned a valuble lesson: Don't eat the Up-N-Away salad.
It's a shame some of the GG'ers couldn't be with us, and that my bombay potato spirit vessel failed to work to bring your souls to us. :< You were there in spirt though, and we'll capture you all together sooner or later. I think the plan is for a steak resturant next time. Where we have knives and forks, and don't have to watch me blunder with chopsticks. Or splinters from splitting the chopsticks.
Another bad thing was... it was too short for some of us! More time is needed. Though I think between more time and more people, wherever we gathered would be destroyed in fits of laughter.
FFM has a cool phone/PDA/Mission Map device thing, I never did get to see any of yoru sketches Lyn, just the one you got done on the stand, and Max is very tall! And didn't shoot anyone.
Ghost Widow must have been boiling in her costume, Bridger and Rockjaw look... pretty much like I thought they would. I probably should have bought those New X-Men: Acadamy X comics too.
Overall, a great, brillaint, superb, crazy weekend. Thanks to everyone there for one of the best weekends ever, and we need to do it again with more people. Time to start arranging kidnappings.
They're very healthy, and I really quite like seaweed and sushi, but they have all sorts of stuff. The most fun, is a chef at the table, prepping it... the egg-joke is great, and used the world over.
I'll bring my camera!
