Right, here's the idea...
Crafted items from Salvage come in two flavours. Arcane and Tech. While there is no difference in the functionality between the two, you can not use Tech Salvage to craft Arcane Base Items (and vice versa).
Worktables/Forges (Tech/Arcane accordingly) come in three flavours. All three (Basic, Advanced and Expert) are needed to craft the full range of base items.
The largest workshop room will only allow for three worktables/forges. They are also expensive (175K Prestige for the set, consuming 135 Control and 270 Power [1/4 of what a Basic Power Source outputs!])
It is best to decide (for Salvage pooling purposes, and conservation of power/control in a base) whether a SG will focus on Arcane or Tech Salvage. Collecting the opposing type of salvage will be a waste as there will be no facilities to process it.
Now, I would hope we are all aware that in SG Mode you will earn Prestige for the SG, as well as Salvage. However, the amount of Prestige will ramp off and influence/infamy dwindle after L25 to a point where at L35 you will earn no inf at all. As such, policy is important to ensure (for villains in particular) that reasonable influence can be earnt for Dual/Single Origins.
Here is where the two points mesh.
If the SG decides upon Arcane as a Base theme, then all members should be in SG Mode against any mobs/missions known to drop Arcane Salvage, and out of SG Mode for Tech-droppers.
This means we only get the salvage we need, the SG earns Prestige, but the player also gets the Inf they need to keep up with the Jones'.

The man has a plan... and I had wondered why you couldn't do both Arcane and Tech stuff in Beta.
So what are we - tech geeks or wizards?
Also, is there a list somewhere of what drops what?
In case we need to start one:
Arachnos: Tech (not sure about Fortunata and Mu)
Mooks: Tech (armour parts etc)
Snakes: Magic (venom, teeth, idols)
CoT: Magic (amulets, orichalcum fragments)
Haunts: Magic (trinkets, swords)
Finally, we need to meet up every now and then at a regular time to drop off all the salvage and/or finished parts with a dedicated Forge Master - easiest if one or two people are nominated for this.

You make bits for our base. as Master Z's extensive guide shows (though it appears to be only for tech stuff), you can make a wide range of stuff.
Quick example:
Say I've had a busy day of evildoing and have been beating up Council and Goldbrickers. Amongst my salvage bag I find two Ceramic Compound samples and a Black Box. When I go to the Worktable, it tells me I can make a "Tech Material" part from it. I'll then pass this onto whoever has base editing rights.
When they put all these refined parts together, they can then make new base items - for example, six Tech Material parts put together on an Expert Worktable makes our Mission Computer, unlocking the all-new SG-only Missions.
I don't know if we get one credited or if they simply get unlocked and then we have to pay for them with Prestige.

SG Badges are a mixed bag. Some unlock new blueprints (so you have to craft them, like the SG Mission Computer). Others unlock new items that can be bought with Prestige (e.g. Teleportation Becons)

They're a Miscellaneous Decorative Item I believe (it places a Gents, Ladies, and Huge toilet door set!)
Toilets are a decorative feature and can be bought for a small amount of prestige... but the doors don't lead anywhere. (How evil.)
EDIT: Zap got there first.
Anyhow, using a test SG to play with base building, I was able to cook a nice-looking (if small) base with some defences, power, control, work tables, a hospital, two security rooms (for Items Of Power) and a teleport room for around 10 million Prestige.
Considering that:
(a) we don't need defensive stuff till we can go grab Items Of Power
(b) we can do without Botty turning into Lawrence Llewellyn Botty for now, so we can just skip the decoration and get all the functional bits working
...we can probably get a working base for half that. Since we've got 400,000-odd prestige with just the Head Start and one full day's play, we could have something decent up and running in a fortnight.

good work team! wow i really am impressed at some of the ideas/knowledge/enthusiasm here, we need to pass this on to the newer players, and get them reading this.
hte next big thing is who do we get salvage from as an SG (i.e. which TFs/arcs/hunts do we do) and when are we going to do them. I propose a weekly (at least) TF/SF night, friday and sunday are kinda out for me (sunday from 8 30 is ok) so maybe one every week rotating say monday > tues > weds > thurs PLUS every other saturday? hmm
FYI, master zap was told this but didnt post as i presume he forget. In my wisdom (i just picked randomly), the VG is arcane and the SG is to be tech. so now you know.
Sin, to set and unset sgmode you can use the /command /sgmode in a macro such as ... /macro "sg" "sgmode" ... or you can specify whether its on or not with /sgmodeset # where # or 1 (on) or 0 (off).

just for those that dont know, by getting a base computer and such up to allow sg trials, we get exclusive sg content/missions unlocked and these allow us to get items of power (IoPs) which give you dmg, def, res, +xp etc buffs when in sg mode.
i would love to see poeple recruiting more members to help us do this, if you meet good players, aim them to these threads, tell them what u think of the sg and our goals (if u like em that is 
)and hopefully we will be much stronger again.

May I ask if the super group will become inactive as Plight Trawler mentioned within his first post that the super group is "an established CoH SG going villain ". May I ask if this super group (Order of the Crusiform Swords) will become inactive or perhaps disbanded entirely and the villain super group will be maintained it its place.
I simply wish to know as I am uncertain if I will be able to ever upgrade to City of Villains and therefore will be left behind and unable to transfer to the villain super group.
May I ask how to also correctly attatch an image signature picture to my profile signature? It does not seem to work. >_<
Hey loki, thanks for coming along, nice avatar etc . the SG isnt disbanding , people are just having their fuss out with CoV andthe VG, both are staying for good im sure. when would be a good time for u to do a weekly sg trial? cause i know ud b good on it this is all part of keeping both groups active andgetting them both functional bases and all the bells and whistles that i6 has brought.

Based on my searchwindow in CoV it seems you can send messages to "the other side", so whenever you need any help from my blaster or tanker, give me a big shout. (anyone can clearify this?)
Most probably tonight i try to fix up my 2 hero's as best as possible for our great ED-changes, so at least they can be a bit usefull to our fellow-hero's in paragon-city.
If you can let us know what times you often play, i try to be around some times to gain some extra prestige for the clan and help you out .
and for your signature, they disabled [img] tagging in our posts for keeping the boards more clean, thus unable to put a direct image in your signature.

I havent found an option yet to swap colors fast while staying in SG mode... i just prefer my toxic-green and deep-blue colors
