I know a lot of folks that enjoy online gambling/video poker games. I think that this game needs to incorp. this into one of the maps or pocket D. I see video poker/slots and game tables that will allow up to 8 players to join in on a texas holdem games. the type of games to be played are endless. players can bet infamy and perhaps win prizes on slots/ video poker games. As new games contunie to be released this Idea will attract a new market as well as give current players another option for ingame play.

No thanks. If you wanna play Texas Hold 'Em, then go to a site that you can do that. Leave my CoX alone please.

Sorry to welcome you to the forums with a harsh response.

Sheer genius!!! I don't gamble, but I could see Babylon in St. Martial actually having working slot machines. It would give CoH/V something, that to the best of my knowledge, no other MMO RPG has. Great idea.

Very unlikely to happen:

A few years back, online gambling sites tried to dodge US regulations by making games that were "token based" and not tied to real cash. They then set up separate dummy companies that did essentially "Unsanctioned" RMT for those companies. That way the gambling site could claim "we're innocent point based fun!" while the other company says "we just sell stuff, we don't provide a gambling service!"

The laws were changed to close that nice little loophole.

Now, the way the law reads, if CoH or any other MMO provided any traditional "gambling" game, their entire game would likely fall under gambling regulation... or at least someone would TRY to apply gambling laws to it & NCSoft would have to spend millions of your subscription dollars fighting the concept in US courts and hoping for a common-sense judge. Not money well spent, IMO.

I guess a few folks have questions about the Gambling laws. I know that I do. I'm not a lawyer or profess to having any knowledge of gambling laws. But perhaps this new addition to the game can be like the "Magic Pack" and other add on packs, it would be purchased seperate from the basic game and proof of age and all that legeal stuff along with it. So those that would like to gamble can and those who don't, don't have to.

never going to happen. they won't restrict content like that. no to mention if you have an account that your family plays on, specificaly your children, they would have access to that content. this is a bad idea for any MMO to put in their game.

Y'know it's really not a matter of the morality of gambling in a Teen-rated game, or whether it is legally feasible (and it probably wouldn't be); but it is a matter of "to what end?"

"To attract more people to the game?" Well, the internet makes the most money and garners the largest memberships on 'adult sites'. So maybe we should add peep shows showing the latest 'adult' video offerings at some suitably seedy spot in Paragon or the Isles. Big membership/money boost for Paragon Studios, but what does it have to do with a super hero based action MMO? I've seen suggestions to add movie theaters to the game that would allow the viewing of regular movies or even YouTube style clips here too, and I have the same reaction... Why?

I like the stock market, and online banking. Should we add a stock ticker to Wentworths? Maybe do your RL banking through the LSSL in St Martials? Running past a shop or billboard offering pizza delivery in Talos; click on the shop and you can order Dominoes delivery to your RL apartment? Actually add online learning through the various universities? All through an add-on 'booster' pack.

Those things are actually possible, but to what end? It is worrisome to me when we want something to be 'MOAR' than its intended purpose just because we don't want to Alt-Tab to our browser or, heaven forfend!, shut down our 'magic interwebz box' and interact with the world in a more meaningful way.

Hyperbole? Look through the Suggestions Forum. Heck, my ideas aren't even that creative compared to some. But I think that I will just play CoX, and then go take both of my best girls (wife and daughter) for an ice cream cone down the street. You can join us; it's 'real' fun.

Online gambling laws in the US have little to do with age, so that wouldn't help.

As neat as the idea sounds ... whoever brought up the legal point has a good point.

Thanks to those gorram "buy inf for money" sites, somebody could buy some inf, do some gambling with inf, win big, then sell his/her inf for cash.

Boom, CoH's now involved in real-world gambling with real-world cash.

Too much legal headaches to deal with.

If anybody remembers SecondLife and what happened to them, Any game in world that worked off of "Chance" and not "Skill" Were deemed illegal and required to be removed. Poker, texas hold-em (I had a texas hold-em table in game in SL for awhile and kept it after the big Gambling ban for old times sake) and any slot or table game was outlawed.

You can thank the federal government for that one.

I'd like to remind everyone that essentially, we're already involved in a gambling game. The moment you defeat an NPC, but don't know exactly what l00t they'll drop, that's already a gamble. I don't think this games needs more gambling than that, thanks.

And how much Inf are you betting? How much Inf do you stand to lose if you fail to defeat that NPC?

Sorry you can't call it gambling if there is no risk involved. You can't even count debt as a risk because they don't take exp away from you. You can't lose a fight and then have to earn that level all over again.

It might be cool from a "realism" point of view if things like the slot machines in this game actually worked. But I agree with the others in the idea that it would far too problematic and legal headache inducing for that bit of realism to ever be worthwhile in a MMO like this one. *shrugs*

Besides if there are people out there who like online gambling and CoX then they can have both right now. There's no real need to have one mixed into the other. I don't need anyone wasting my CoX network bandwidth gambling when they could be wasting their own outside of this game.

The currency that is being used as a betting chip is time, and the risk involved is having to go through something like a Task Force or a very boring grind only to end up with a bunch of mediocre salvage pieces and a common IO recipes. That's the risk, that's the gamble.

Ask any Efficiency Expert (a.k.a AE farmer) and they'll tell you that recently losing ones' AE-slot for posting a blatant farming mission is also very tangible...

EDIT :: And... after thinking some more about this idea, as cool as it may be to add more mini-game into CoX, adding rewards to these mini-games is something that RMT dealers would absolutely love! Also, if people love gambling so much, they can arrange it themselves betting on Gladiatorial and Arena battles. At least then, the INF won't come for free and the in-game economy won't be in turmoil because of inflation.

Wow. I have to admit I can't wrap my head around the idea that the time I spend playing the game is a risk, or a waste of time if I don't get the "uber" drops.

Is debt even really much of a penalty? If you're broke, it's an oppurtunity to earn normal $Inf and drop rate and have double the time before you outlevel your non-IO enhancements.

I know. I can't count the number of times I deliberately got killed (pre-market) so I could earn more inf. Now I get killed for the badges.

Why is is that lame people keep trying to shove gambling into our faces?

You wanna go play some blackjack or something there are a bajillion sites that you can do that on. This trash has no place in CoH.
