Issue 16 Closed Beta Coming Soon
Anyone know a date for Open Beta?
I'm not saying I'm entitled to something I'm not, I just don't think it's very fair that they had it sitting out for anyone to walk by and play with at comic-con (which I would have been at if not for scheduling black-outs at work for back to school season) and then they shut it down for those of us who've been chomping at the bit for just a peek at what the customization will entail. That and the fact that BaBs tweeted "Yeah, everyone should be able to access character customization" and then ten minutes later "GTFO if you're not beta" with no explanation at all.
BaBs just gave us said explanation to point out that the creator is apparently suffering quite a few crash bugs and other known issues and they didn't want to open the floodgates on that, which was what alot of us had inferred, but at least they did us the courtesy of letting us know. That works for me, it's all I was after, either access to creator or a reason we were being denied it after being told we wouldn't. Trust me, I'm not alone in this. Test forum was buzzing with irritation, I guess I was the only one who strayed into discussions to bring news. |
Everyone that is complaining closed beta, you need to stop, grow up, and be patient. Just be happy that a 3rd issue is coming out within a year......I'm stoked.
CHILL OUT!!!
Sorry if I missed this in the sea of other posts, but here's a question:
While the boards were down there was a news item stating that players who had 60+ months paid would get a chance to get into the first wave of closed beta. Now, a timeframe of August 15 - November 15 is mentioned (expected time the game will be in beta?) According to PlayNC, I'm due to tick over to 60 months on August 18th. Would I still be eligible to get into that first wave of beta invites? |
" Closed Beta access* for City of Heroes Going Rogue"
City of Heroes didn't fail, City of Heroes was killed. If a 747 dropped on your house, you'd say you were killed, not you failed to find a safer dwelling.

Not unless they REALLY blaze through beta... closed beta for GR won't start til after November 15th at the earliest, to accommodate those who stay subscribed from August 15th-November 15th per that email that we got.

It would be a nice Christmas gift to wake up and Play Going Rouge.

A lot of people buy multiple months at a time too, so closed beta could easily start in september or october, with regular choices as well as people already paid up past nov 15th getting in. Then, as long as closed beta is going on until like November 23rd-25th they can get those other people in and keep their word.
Granted, this IS wishful thinking. But it is possible.
I suspect there will be three sections to closed beta:
(1) The inevitable friends and family period. The only people who get in are those who have a direct connection with Paragon Studios, so the devs can look over their shoulders and see what's going on (and how the player reacts to it). My guess is that is where I16 closed beta is now.
(2) Chosen beta testers, with multiple waves. These are the people who, for one reason or another, Paragon Studios thinks will be useful in pounding on GR.
(3) Clopen beta, where people who one way or another have won a guaranteed spot in the beta. Loyalty program, pre-order GR, maybe HeroCon attendees. It's still closed beta in that not everyone can get in, but the number will be so large, the difference isn't significant (why I call it Clopen). This is the one that has to start on November 15th or later, and I suspect Paragon's goal is that the stability and bugfixes will have it at the "ready for Open beta" and that this will BE the Open Beta.
Now, we may not know when the first and second stages of beta testing are going on (well, those picked for the second stage closed beta will know). This is the sort of beta that will take a long time to be successful, and my guess is that they will set up a separate test server for the early stages of closed beta.
