Looking for AoE fun in a scrapper
Umm... You mean scrapper right? Right... I look at aoe in two ways. Aoe easy and aoe fun. Aoe easy would be spines and a dmg aura like dark armor and fire aura. Just cut the toggles on and run in and watch the carnage unfold. Aoe fun would be a lot of click attacks with aoe goodness like BS/SD combo or DB and what ever. I have much fun on my DB/invul. I herd mobs up around a corner or in a tight area and cut loose! Then jump out by myself. Sweep combo and attack vitals combo over and over. I can't wait to get home and play. I'm getting excited just talking about it. Hmm.. How about a DB/FA or DB/DA? That sounds like the best of both worlds. I'd pick DB/FA so you can stack FE and BF then cut loose for more dmg and have blazing aura hitting them too.

Yeah, I meant Scrapper lol... I'm tired, just got home from work myself... Was excited to play till I found out the servers were down...
I like the sound of DB/FA the way you describe it... I rather hit buttons then take the easy path...
I'm curious what makes SD good for AoE?

That power called Against All Odds... yeah that's a damage bonus for every foe you have in melee range. Stand in a group (ideally with softcapped defense), and you'll be looking at anywhere from a 30-80% damage boost pretty regularly. Throw Build Up on top and you can see where it's going. Shield also has Shield Charge, which is a strong AoE teleport. Fire/SD is pretty popular for what you seem to like to do.

That sounds very interesting as well, thank you...
Think I will try rolling both and try em out...
okay, I'm going to say straight up that my favourite for AoE damage is Spines/Dark, its truly insane against minions or anything white (or yellow)
With that out of the way,
Dark Armor is around the middle for survivability, relies on its heal heavily, and also needs extra accuracy to buff whichever mez aura you take. You'll also need to get a KB protect IO to fill the gap. It's not a bad set (theres no such thing for scrappers) but those are its issues.
Fire Armor? Well, I honestly haven't tried it, but have been meaning to roll an MA/Fire and call him "Super-Gimp" after all, they're the two least liked of the scrapper sets, so . . . .
Shields? They are AWESOME!! but they're not cheap, don't bother unless you're prepared to spend a billion inf on it (there are better sets for an all SO build) but yeah, the AoE potential of Shields is huge!
Anyway, I'm still voting Spines/Dark based on what you asked, but if you've been gone a year AND have some spare inf in the wallet, go Shields, it's the new black.

I can't believe FM slipped my mind like that. I didn't bother editing because I knew someone would add that. Yup FM/SD is a good one too. The awsome sauce is when you get the recharge of fsc under 8 or 9 second so you can use it twice while build up is active. You get it to 7 and you can squeeze shield charge in there too. I know BU is 10 seconds but breathing room never hurts.

I'm having a lot of fun with a Spines/Fire that I made. Only like level 9 or something, but I think he has two level-ups banked. Endurance is a bit of an issue.
I recently leveled a AR/Traps corruptor and now I'm looking for some easy brainless level farming.
The two vet powers make up for the lack of single target damage. So I'm really steam rolling everything right now.
Only frustrating thing is that I inadvertantly made a FOTM. I picked Spines/fire for the concept and was thinking it would be a rare build. Now I'm hearing that everyone and their mothers cat has a Spines/Fire scrapper..Oh well.
I don't see many Spines/Fire on Freedom, well not anymore than Claws/SR or Spines/Regen. I see a metric ton of BS/Shield for obvious reasons.
Mine is standing at 29 atm, been kinda lazy and haven't leveled him any, but he does do nice AoE carnage. It was pretty endurance hungry, but once I got Consume and Stamina slotted out, it wasn't a issue anymore.

Ok, I haven't played in a year or so and there's lots new to me again... I'm not the type of player to "farm" but I like to rush in and do lots of AoE type of dmg... I don't like tanking either so I haven't really considered making one... So...
Having said that I was wondering what opinions people had of dual blades, fire and dark sets for survivability, and doing lots of dmg both single target and AoE... Should I consider Sheild Defense as a possibility?
Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks in advance.

Gonna echo some of the existing replies.
Start with Spines/
From there look at /Dark Armor (it has End issues but can be lots of fun). My Spines/DA feels like one continuous nuke.
I haven't tried /Fire but hear nice things there too.
My fire/shield by passed by spines/da for aoe fun
Heard up a large group shield.charge at my feet > Fire Circle sword is way to much fun it is a better rush then throw spines jump in spine burst with damage auras running
Pinnacle
Langar Thurs-Katana/SR 50; Hejtmane-DM/DA 50
Rogue Spear-Spines/DA 50; Hypnosis-Ill/Rad 50
Sir Thomas Theroux-DM/SR 50; Melted Copper-Fire/Shield 50
Byzantine Warrior-DB/ELA 50;Blade Tempo-50 DB/EA
I would say roll spines/wp, great aoe and a good amount of survivability.

Dark/Shield Build Thread
My BS/SD is great for running the walls in Cimerora. She's well IO'd, but far from optimized. Not a single purple on her.
The process:
1. Aggro a group by killing the surgeon.
2. Run to second group; kill the surgeon there.
3. Wait a few seconds for both groups to gather around for autographs.
4. Build Up --> Shield Charge.
5. Clean up the Lts and the few stragglers SC missed.
rinse and repeat.
Shield Charge and AAO just make for an amazing AOE experience. Because of the taunt aura, nobody runs away, and they all form a nice tidy group for the nuke. And on my build at least, BU and SC have almost identical recharges, so they always go in tandem. It's embarrasingly easy.

[/ QUOTE ]Ummm.... OG is standard accuracy. You only need the extra accuracy if you actually take Cloak of Fear, and really, that power is just so completely gimped when compared to OG that I'd only take it if I have Fears to stack with it.

Try to fit in Exploding shuriken or Energy Torrent. That with Shield Charge and FSC...

Sure, OG does have standard accuracy, but speaking from ingame experience, I didn't notice it contributing heaps to my survivability till my global accuracy became huge as well, it definitely needs more than a single Accuracy Enhancement slotted.
That was my ingame experience anyway.
The important thing was that Spines/Dark is hella fun and an instant AoE god.

[/ QUOTE ]Honestly, my Dark/SS never sees it whiff with 1 level 35 Acc IO (Roughly equivalent to 1 +3 SO) and not-quite-perma-rage (there's about .5 seconds of downtime during each activation), so 2-3 Accuracy SOs/IOs is plenty for it. No need for massive global accuracy.

fair call,
lots of global acc was the solution I used, but it definitely isn't the only solution
At the end of the day though, if you give it only one Accuracy enhancement, you're doing it a disservice, so give it 2 or 3 Acc SOs, bump your global acc, whatever, just make sure that it will hit as much as possible.

Might want to consider a primary other than Spines if you don't want enemies running from you. Or skip Quills. It's very annoying.

Again, speaking from experience, Quills and Death Shroud is an awesome experience, they do far, far more damage than you may think.
But the single best thing you can do for a Spines/Dark is Armaggeddon's in spine Burst, with the Chance for Fire Damage.
When faceing of against minions and Lts the combination of simply having the wot damage auras running, then going into the middle of the mob and hitting Spine Burst, then following up with Ripper will drop pretty much everything. I say pretty much, because occassionally there is someone still standing, and and you're right, they generally get so scared they run, but then that's why you've got Throw Spines and Lunge, Which are both ranged anyway.
The single best pleace for Spines/Dark though, is the Wall in Cimerora, you can use Throw spines to aggro, and then they will run INTO your damage auras, by the time the last of the mob gets close enough to be in range of spine burst the first few will have already dropped from nothing more than the combination of the initial Throw Spines, and that suprisingly high double damage Aura damage.
it's late here, and I'm probably not describing the glory of these moments well enough, and its times like this I wish I'd bothered to figure out demorecord, but trust me, its awesome, and if using lunge to hit the occasional runner is the price, then it's more than worth it.
Lunge is not ranged. You prob mean Impale? In any case, the damage is definitely nice. No debate there. I usually let the mob of 51 lts gather and then use TS from above, then SB and Ripper -repeat. It's just that after farming for awhile, it became bothersome having 4-5 left over running for their lives in all directions. I ended up adding defendable objects with ambushes and just went to town while leaving the runners.
OK, I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting something DIFFERENT from the rest of these folks.
Spines/ is the classic AoE set with a damage aura in the primary and lots of solid AoE attacks.
Fire Melee/ has a nice fast-recharging AoE in Fire Sword Circle. It's well balanced with great single target damage.
What I am going to suggest is Claws/
Yep, people forget how much AoE prowess Claws 2.0 has these days. Spin is available early, you get Eviscerate (cone), and Shockwave is the icing on the cake.
Combine a set like Claws with something like Fire Armor or Dark Armor with a damage aura and you are styling. See, Follow-up boosts both to-hit and damage, so it maximizes your damage aura (and Cloak of Fear's mitigation if you take /DA). Plus, Claws/ offers a bunch of mitigation with knockdown/knockback which can be great with a highly moblie Scrapping style like mine. Shockwave can be used to "sweep" foes into a corner or against a wall to cluster them for Spin and Eviscerate.
Yeah, Claws/Fire Armor would be my suggestion. If for nothing else, for something different that's not a cookie-cutter build you see two of on teams...
Spines/Dark! Spines/Dark!
