this is my first post on these forums so I'm abit new on how things work here. I'm looking for a good combination for soloing, Ive tried a few combinations but i always seem to pick a combo with little synergy. Im hoping someone with a bit more scrapper experience can help.

As a side note /Regen just isnt for me with all the clicking.

I'm open to everything and anything tho. Thank you in advance.

Honestly, for scrappers, pick anything/anything.
Willpower is great solo, right out of the box though. Claws is a good powerset with relatively low end costs, and follow up is a great self buff. I myself am in the process of playing a DB/SP scrapper and a DM/WP brute.

Willpower has more passive regen than Regen does. Who thought that was a good idea?

Can we get a fix for Energy Melee instead of more new sets?

If you are mostly soloing, try Spines/WP.

It is a great synergy and you have AoE's, which is great for soloing.

My Spines/WP went to 50 faster than any other I've tried, and it was awesome sauce from level 1 to 50.

I still play it more than any other 50 I have.

After getting two brutes to 50, I was suffering trying to get a scrapper past 25, I've found DM/WP is pretty nice and it's gotten me back into the swing of things. All that acc debuffing and the quick health recovery is really nice and makes the whole trip a breeze.

katana/wp is also a nice steady leveler right out of the box with Divine Avalanche for extra defense

The thing I like about katana for new people it has good single target and aoe with flashing and lotus

Overall Fire is my new favorite but that is pure damage and nothing else

But any set is good but WP is nice because it is steady all the wy from go.

/sr is a great set ut is a late bloomer set

/da is awesome but more complicated set

Thinking of maybe making a Dm/Wp now, all the -acc seems promising along with siphon life and the regen in the /Wp set.

Thanks for all the help so far, didnt expect answers this quickly.

After the end of an exceptionally long love affair with Controllers, I began dabbling with Scrappers. They are just as good as everyone says they are! Some of the ones I have tried:

50 Spines / Willpower - An amazing AOE beast that is so much fun to play, I am at a loss of words to describe it. I can dive into a pile of mobs and come out unscathed. This Scrapper makes me feel like the Spines / Regen Scrapper of old. It is an incredibly effective mass mob destroyer, but doesn't fair so well against AV's.

50 Katana / Willpower - I hated this Scrapper until the late 30's. It was hard to distribute slots between offense and defense leveling up, but once the build was fleshed out, it became a whole lot more fun to play. Once I reached level 50 and added a lot of recharge to the build, it became a sight to behold, and I enjoyed it more than my beloved Spines / WP Scrapper.

41 DM / Shield - I really want to love this character, but I think my more AOE oriented Scrappers have spoiled me. I want to get this one to 50 and spend some influence on her to see if my opinion will change. Fully saturated AAO puts up some big numbers and Shield Charge is so much fun! This Scrapper seems so much more squishy than my WP scrappers. Perhaps my perception is skewed.

40 Spines / Fire - Jaw dropping AOE damage, and jaw dropping squishy. This lil gal needs a lot of influence to reach the godliness of my other 50 Scrappers.

38 BS / Shield - Fully saturated AAO and AOE? Sign me up! Amazingly endurance intensive but seems more sturdy than my DM / Shield because of Parry. Who knew? The slow attacks are a bit hard to deal with after having a fancy Katana Scrapper..but the damage numbers are so much bigger.

32 Fire / Fire - This Scrapper is a thrill to play and puts up big damage numbers to boot. I need lots of greens, blues, and purple inspirations to keep me up, but I obliterate everything in my path. Despite the squishy nature at this lower level, this by far has been the easiest Scrapper I have ever leveled. A true joy to solo with just SO's. I cannot imagine what this build would do with 2 billion worth of IO's placed in it.

20 Fire / Shield - Too early to tell, I'll let you know. I have high hopes for this one!

Those are my current projects..I certainly need to stay away from the forums. The Scrapper forums really manage to pique my interests. So many great players and posters, they make Scrappers seem like Pokemon...and you know what they say about Pokemon....ha!

With just SO /Shield is weak. But you do have DM which as a heal so it makes it better but it is still weak. When looking at your other level 50 Scrapper Willpower will seem a lot stronger then your Shield Scrapper with just SO. Shield is weaker because it gives you more offense just like FA. The thing is Willpower will only get a little better with IOs, and DM/Shield becomes a lot better with IOs and I mean a lot better

Your perception is not skewed WP is the stronger Scrapper with just SO. Also having one of them being Kat/WP your DM/SD should feel weak.

BS/DA is an awesome soloer, once you get past the level 35 hurdle. It's painful until you gain access to Oppressive Gloom. After you get it you can ignore minions and focus on LTs and bosses.

DB/WP is fun, but I'm getting a little disillusioned with mine, I guess I just don't like the way the two sets synergize. Great soloer though, I don't think he's been on a team for more than an hour in about 7 levels now.

Claws/SR is a blindingly fast combo that will solo like a champ in the late game. It's a little squishy early on though until your defenses mature. You need everything except possibly Elude, and that depends on whether or not you are soft capped.

DM/WP will be damn near indestructible after level 30 or so. Awesome soloer, but it lacks AoE damage.

Spines/Fire is better suited to teams in my opinion. The smaller spawns when solo seem like a waste to use AoE powers on. But since that's pretty much all you have, you don't have much choice. Spines only has 3 ST damage powers in the set, 1 sucks (Barb Swipe) 1 has a looong animation (Impale, but it is AWESOME in what it does) and one is just your basic ST attack (Lunge). Everything else is an AoE, though I often use Ripper as a ST attack because nothing else is recharged.

When it comes to scrappers if my choice is to slot secondary or more damage my priory in the early levels is more damage

If it is dead it can't hurt me

That is how I approach it. I am not saying to ignore you secondary but when it is tight and I have to choose I am going offense

Fire/WP or Fire/SR. I'd lean Fire/SR myself, because if you want a build for mostly soloing, WP doesn't shine as much with only 2-3 mobs, whereas /SR shines best when there are less mobs to get a lucky shot in. Just my .02.

I'd also suggest MA/WP or MA/SR for some nice single target smash damage. Go fight robots and you can be Magnus Robot Fighter!

My signature says it all. Fire/SR is arguably the funnest scrapper I have played. Let me tell you, I am a scrapper addict lol. So much offensive potential and great slotting can do you amazing things.

Thanks for your reply. Amazing how Katana / WP can spoil you, isn't it?

I have this nasty habit of going into hazard zones, jumping into incredibly large spawns, then decimating them all =D My defense based Scrappers just don't seem to like this style of play too much. If I can stick it out a bit longer and IO out one of my Shield Scrappers, things should get pretty interesting!

Hmm this has all been a great help and concept wise /DA seems promising to a character in my mind (I'll admit I'm a bit of a story and concept geek) but just how complicated would it be and what may go well with it?

/DA works fine make sure to take acrobatics or buy kb io's because you have no kb protection

katana, dm and spines all go great with it even martial arts can leverage it stuns with OG from the set anything will work with the set.

Also take either cof or og they do not really work well together most people go with OG because it only takes the default slot or two (depends on how high you want to fight) to make the power good but COF needs 6 slotting

Really, any combination will give you an excellent solo artist. However, Willpower is nice, simple and effective. Also, the two swords, Katana and Broad Sword, get their Parry moves that make for an even easier time (and early on, too!).

But really, it's up to you.

I distinctly remember being able to easily solo invincible missions with my BS/WP Scrapper in his high 20s (post Heightened Senses and Disembowel). He had a generic SO build.
