If anything it opens up a power slot if you don't want to take it, so if you find you're having survival problems you can take a power better suited for immediate help. Fire tanking isn't tanking on easy mode like it used to be, and to be honest it's ALOT more fun to tank with my Fire/Fire now then the pre-ED and Burn nerfs.
So in a nutshell, other than maybe a few MINOR number tweaks, Fire Armor is working just fine.
I entirely agree that Fire Tanks are just fine. I have 2 level 50 Fire/Fire Tanks and one at level 42 ( Not that I'm addicted to them or anything...)
That being said, I disagree with FlamingIntern. You **NEED** to take Tough and Weave on a Fire Tank. Using IO's focus on getting your recharge up to 100%, your S/L resistance up to 70%, and try to get your positional defenses as close as you can to 25%.
If you have the Influence to spend, be sure to get the recovery uniques and a few -KB IO's ( That way you can skip taking Acrobatics)
There's two routes to go with your Epic power pools, Pyre or Earth. Take FBlast / FBall for damage or Quicksand / Burn for extra mitigation.
After you are finished with your Fire Tank...move on to making a Fire / Dark Tank.....more active and just as much fun! -
Better than taking a fear even: Take Caltrops and couple that with Burn. Incredibly effective. Give it a whirl.

I may be in the minority here, but I loved CoH at launch. I mean, really loved. So, you can imagine that I quickly lost interest in CoH after the GDN and ED were implemented.
That being said, I am incredibly happy with the direction that CoH is taking, in reversing a lot of those poor business decisions. I fully support the removal of the aggro cap and the aoe cap. Sultry Susan wants her old Flash back! -

Hi Guys and Gals!
After recently ending love affairs with Controllers and Scrappers, I have moved on to Tankers!
I recently put together a build for a Fiery Aura / Super Strength Tanker that will hopefully put my beloved Fiery Aura / Fire Melee Tanker to shame. I adore my Fire / Fire Tank, so I hope this build will please me.
The build runs at 70.4% resistance to S/L and has the following defenses:
Melee: 23.3%
Ranged: 22.1%
AOE: 30.2%
I couldn't figure out what to take at level 49, so I took Temperature Protection, since I mostly fight mobs that have ranged / melee fire based attacks. Nothing in the build is designed around concept as I am one of those dreaded min/max type players
Other than expense, are there any glaring omissions or errors that you can see? Thanks in advance for all of your help!

With just SO /Shield is weak. But you do have DM which as a heal so it makes it better but it is still weak. When looking at your other level 50 Scrapper Willpower will seem a lot stronger then your Shield Scrapper with just SO. Shield is weaker because it gives you more offense just like FA. The thing is Willpower will only get a little better with IOs, and DM/Shield becomes a lot better with IOs and I mean a lot better
Your perception is not skewed WP is the stronger Scrapper with just SO. Also having one of them being Kat/WP your DM/SD should feel weak.

I have this nasty habit of going into hazard zones, jumping into incredibly large spawns, then decimating them all =D My defense based Scrappers just don't seem to like this style of play too much. If I can stick it out a bit longer and IO out one of my Shield Scrappers, things should get pretty interesting! -
Today, I tried to respec my DB / SR Scrapper and got the respec failed notice. The only thing I could figure out was that I had red enhancements in both my inventory and powers. After eliminating all the red enhancements in both areas, the respec worked.

After the end of an exceptionally long love affair with Controllers, I began dabbling with Scrappers. They are just as good as everyone says they are! Some of the ones I have tried:
50 Spines / Willpower - An amazing AOE beast that is so much fun to play, I am at a loss of words to describe it. I can dive into a pile of mobs and come out unscathed. This Scrapper makes me feel like the Spines / Regen Scrapper of old. It is an incredibly effective mass mob destroyer, but doesn't fair so well against AV's.
50 Katana / Willpower - I hated this Scrapper until the late 30's. It was hard to distribute slots between offense and defense leveling up, but once the build was fleshed out, it became a whole lot more fun to play. Once I reached level 50 and added a lot of recharge to the build, it became a sight to behold, and I enjoyed it more than my beloved Spines / WP Scrapper.
41 DM / Shield - I really want to love this character, but I think my more AOE oriented Scrappers have spoiled me. I want to get this one to 50 and spend some influence on her to see if my opinion will change. Fully saturated AAO puts up some big numbers and Shield Charge is so much fun! 40 Spines / Fire - Jaw dropping AOE damage, and jaw dropping squishy. This lil gal needs a lot of influence to reach the godliness of my other 50 Scrappers.
38 BS / Shield - Fully saturated AAO and AOE? Sign me up! Amazingly endurance intensive but seems more sturdy than my DM / Shield because of Parry. Who knew? The slow attacks are a bit hard to deal with after having a fancy Katana Scrapper..but the damage numbers are so much bigger.
32 Fire / Fire - This Scrapper is a thrill to play and puts up big damage numbers to boot. I need lots of greens, blues, and purple inspirations to keep me up, but I obliterate everything in my path. Despite the squishy nature at this lower level, this by far has been the easiest Scrapper I have ever leveled. A true joy to solo with just SO's. I cannot imagine what this build would do with 2 billion worth of IO's placed in it.
20 Fire / Shield - Too early to tell, I'll let you know. I have high hopes for this one!
Those are my current projects..I certainly need to stay away from the forums. The Scrapper forums really manage to pique my interests. So many great players and posters, they make Scrappers seem like Pokemon...and you know what they say about Pokemon....ha! -
I have a fully IO'd Spines / WP Scrapper...and I love her!
Entirely amazing and a breath to behold in action. Plus...I never run out of endurance! Now, if only my Spines / Fire Scrapper could say the same thing... -

I finally completed my quest to 50.
I used the same IO slotting that you did, and although the total cost was around 1.7 billion influence, the build performs at an amazing level. Major kudos to you, good sir!
My only question is: After playing such an incredibly powerful AOE powerhouse, where do I go from here? Spines / Fire?
I have both a Kat / WP and a BS / Regen and they both seem very lackluster compared to what I just experienced. Does anything else compare to the non-stop killing speed of this build? -
I recently came back to CoH after a long hiatus, and after some research, I decided to make a Spines/WP Scrapper.
