Your personal opinions are not valid and making up BS like hes an anthroplogist and trying to pass it on as fact is all bull [censored]

If that's not 'how you are', why do you keep trying to excuse the behaviour of those who threatened him? It seems hypocritical of you to act outraged about how you, by extension, are being depicted in the media, when you continue to imply that Myers pretty much got what he deserved. It strikes me as a pretty fine moral distinction to draw, don't you think?
>Also, this is not a case of 'at the moment he was

He was conducting an experiment; of course his choice of actions was deliberate. Scientists also deliberately fling particles around a ring of magnets to find out the sort of things that happen all the time in nature. Deliberately precipitating results doesn't invalidate them.
Moreover, the way Myers chose to play was entirely in keeping with the context. The way the rest of the community had chosen to play was entirely at odds with the context. He wasn't a slow driver in the fast lane. He was like someone heading down to the local football pitch for a kickabout, only to find that a bunch of squatters had decided to spread out picnic blankets and sit around chatting. When he tries to play, he is abused, and when he refuses to back down and kicks the ball anyway the abuse escalates to threats of violence and attempts to ruin his RL reputation.
What you and others are arguing is that the squatters' unilateral redefinition of that gamespace's purpose is legitimate: that merely by getting there first and banding together they somehow own the space. Not only that, but you seem quite happy to sit and watch the more volatile members of the group bully the interloper, reaping the benefits of their intimidating behaviour whilst publicly distancing yourself from it.

I thought it was a good read. I never met the dude in game but I had heard of him (though not his reputation). I guess my not PvPing is part of the reason. But to me it was a good read.

This is TWIXT's opponent.
The bottom line is that Twix was in a PVP area, anyone who had their butts handed to them by him was also in a PVP area. In PVP areas, the factions attack one another, that's why they are there. Anyone who complains about Twixt using a sound tactic to defeat them, in a PVP area, is a whiner and needs to leave the PVP zone.
If you don't want to get your a$$ whipped, don't go there.
"Less QQ more pew! pew!"
Ballista, that was NOT directed at you in particular. I was just posting to the conversation, and happened to use the wrong means of posting. No offense was intended.
So him pulling enemy faction NPCs into another Hero, because he thought Farming was wrong, is ok? How about TP Foeing villians into Longbow Mobs while they were *gasp* actually PvPing heroes well away from the hero base, and not base camping as he often claimed? That was just to try and get them debt..... He knew the majority of the time that the NPCs would get the kill not him. Yes he was such a skilled PVPer.....
I never PvPed against Twixt, because I never had a high lvl villian, but I hated how he tried to get me debt for farming RV a lil.
The most awsome thing that really pushed me over the top in my Twixt hate was that I started catching him Farming the zone as well, and not once but many times. So the great anti-farmer was not only a real nasty jerk, but he was also a hypocrite of the highest order.
So for all you that think the way he played, and the way he acted was ok, I'm glad you didn't have to deal with this guy or i'd bet the majority would feel the same as I do. I13 ruined PvP but at least it got rid of Twixt... oh wait he still haunts the community by making us look like whiny brats that couldn't beat the MAGNIFICANT TWIXT and so had to resort to death threats...... SIGH!
I found this to be very interesting. I read the article and then checked the boards to see if there was a comment on this somewhere. Lo and behold, and ppl are still grumping about poor twixt? lol I just think theres alot of sore losers here who were caught not playing the game as it was intended and the one guy who decides to get aggressive in a pvp zone got punished, and prompted him to study us all like labrats. I do most my playing on triumph, and ive lost count how many times ive gone into sirens call and everyone just sits on the dock and socializes with each other. Even now in recluses victory no one fights, they just cooperate with each other and farm turrets. Thats not what the zones were intended for. Yes his tactics were mean spirited, but all is fair in love and war. I was in warburg once and got pwned when someone spawned a chronos titan in the zone. Now that was mean lol but hey whats a guy to do lol.

I find equally interesting that he doesn't come up unless someone posts "OMG TWIXT PWNZ UR SOULZ" habitually, or bumps existing "OMG TWIXT PZWN'D (insert server name)" threads.

The methods he used here are more akin to those used by anthropologists than by legitimate psychologists and sociologists. He personally labels himself as a sociologist but the Twixt experiment isn't really set up as a sociological experiment and reads more closely to an anthropology paper. To me, there seems to be a definite mismatch between what he called himself and how he actually behaves (as far as Twixt is concerned).
[/ QUOTE ]
And you know this because you are an anthropologist or sociologist? You are quite critical of those disciplines. Do you have an appropriate background to make the statements that you did?

I got 75% of the way through my Bachelor's in Psychology (with a dual major in CS) before deciding there wasn't enough actual interest in the psychological field I was interested in (Human Computer Interfacing, if you're curious) and switched down to a CS degree with a minor in Psychology. Having actually designed and run several psych experiments while helping with several Anthro and Socio studies, I'm reasonably sure that I've been exposed enough to have developed a reasonably accurate heuristic involving all three disciplines.
