Scrapper Forum
I have a hypothesis that the less DPS an AT has, the whinier its forum is.

I think having relatively well-balanced powersets to the point where you can't really name a bad one also helps.
The Brute forums are an indication of how thin that line is.
I've noticed that the typical Scrapper is an extremist, at least on the forums. I seem to notice a lot of min/max'ers on this board.

The typical scrapper player wants to push himself and the entire AT he identifies with to new heights. Thus, he is able and willing to share knowledge of how to make an already powerful AT even more awesome through use of power selections and slotting.
At least such is the general attitude of scrapper players who post on the forums, I have met some blithering idiots in game who wonder why their SR with only 3 powers from their secondary and no slots in them can't solo AVs like they keep hearing about, and accusing people who have done it of lying because they can't.
Fortunately, such people seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Most scrappers I meet are either capable of impressive feats, or strive towards them.

So one day I was on an ITF with my BS/SR scrapper, there was one more scrapper on the team. He as a Claws/SR scrapper we also had a FF troller on the team. In about the 2nd mish I saw that the Claws/SR scrapper die about 4 times now, I think to my self that can't be right. An /SR with just SO should be at 30% defense and with the FF on the team he should be at 40% easy. So he shouldn't be getting killed that much.
I look at his power and he only has 3 of his /SR power 1 toggle and 2 auto powers. I was in shock, I didn't say anything to him but wanted too. He die about 10 times that hole TF.
I want to know what he was thinking after that TF because I was on with my BS/SR and my brother was on with his SS/SR brute and both of us didn't come close to getting killed.

Yeah, I think the min-maxers are VASTLY overrepresented on this forum. No idea how that came to pass, but it might explain why certain kinds of answers are usually easy to get here. Someone, and probably multiple someones, will have already spent days testing or buried in a spreadsheet working out the answer to your question. Also, there doesn't seem to be much guarding of any of that knowledge. It's like we're playing a game of king of the hill with the rules modified to see how many people we can fit at the top. I love this place.

Although this place has a whole lot of min-maxers, I do find it refreshing that the very same mix maxers have no problem giving good advice to people who just don't have it in them to put all the time and influence into pimping their toon into purpled out billion demigods and just want something simple and workable to have fun with.
I find the lack "be holy like me or suck noob!" mentality a very good quality and I applaud that.
I think it's that if someone has a legitimate question they're answered with many opinions and can sift through and see what works best for them. As oppossed to nothing.
BTW the only "real" help was from....wait for it........

I liken the scrapper forum to a martial arts dojo.
Generally speaking we all get along and are more then willing to help each other out when asked a question.
You have the friendly rivalries and competitions amongst the students... why do you think we keep track of our kills?
But in the end our training is proven in battle!!!
[Personally I find the term "Min/maxing" kind of insulting... for the most part people use it as an insult. Why is it a bad thing to understand the rules and make a character that accomplish lots of awesome things and be cool at the same time?]

Its so true. I read the scrapper boards almost every day. Page for page on certain topics. I go to the other boards and want to throw my blackberry into the wall after a few pages from one post. Often have questions about other ATs but I just can't bare to go threw all them threads to try to find my answer.

/100% agree !
I find myself feeling the same way. I know I can come here to ask questions and not feel like I am getting looked down upon. I also like how much I trust that I am getting good advice. When I ask for the best build for something, I know I am getting the BEST.
I wish I could say the same about some other forums. I am looking for a good Huntsman build for Soldiers of Arachnos and I get so many conflicting things, most of which looks crazy.

The problem with some other forums is that they only see just one or two ways of doing things as individuals. That tends to stagnate any real innovation that can come into play for these sets. I know for a Huntsman build, the only one real guide out there is for a perma-hasten build set for maximum recharge just to have perma-pets. I personally went with a soft-cap build, based on survivability rather than uncontested DPS.
I have also always got really good feedback from you guys.
I always team, and I find myself and other scrappers always sending tells about what is goin on, how do you like that powerset, how do you have that slotted, whats your regen rate or whatever at.
The most fun TFs are always the all scrapper ones, although I did an all def one that was fun.
Contrary to what some believe, I'm not a min/maxer. That stated, I do like to know what I'm actually putting time and effort into. I won't build for optimal DPS but I want to know what that chain would look like, as I team often and getting hit with 2-3 speed boosts is not uncommon.
Unfortunately, everything gets broken down into numbers. While I wish it could be the contrary, it's undoubtedly the one reproducible way to communicate things on the forums. Everything else is simply too subjective.
There are days where I have a lot of down time and peruse the entire forum. But if time is limited, I start at the scrapper forums FIRST. It's simply more efficient Most everything else is just gossip
Aye very much true.. The Scrapper forum from my experiece has been one of the most helpful.. You don't try to steer anyone away from there power selections but help guide the right picks in those powers...
Also in each forum I have been in there is always one that helps you at least.. better then some other forums..
