Statesman

I was fighting Statesman in AE today with my Inv/SS tank. He was an EB. To my surprise, he knocked me back 4 times with one of his Epic Electric Melee attacks. From doing the RSF, I knew that attack had some wicked knockback.

Status protection is a bit higher on tanks than brutes, so I was very surprised I was knocked back. Especially him only being an EB. Is this just a freak thing, or does that attack really have that kind of magnitude? I was under the assumption only Hamidon could overcome a tanks knockback protection.

Did he hit your toon with a nerf bat?

If he got a solid hit, all bets are off

I'm surprised to hear this, but it might be some bad concept thing.

The knockback protection aspect of powers like Unyielding don't scale depending on AT (just like Regen doesn't scale). Both Tanker Unyielding and Brute Unyielding point to Melee_Ones table for their knockback protection/resistance (which is the same for all ATs, hence no difference between Tankers and Brutes).

Most sets with built in knock protection come coupled with 10,000% knock resistance. That, in fact, does most of the work, it reduces the knockback MAG of all powers to 0. You could be hit with a million MAG knockback and stay on your feet.

...except against unresistible knock effects, which Statesman's Hammer of Justice does. I'm not sure exactly how high it's knockback is (I don't have AV knockback tables), but since it's scale 11 and you got launched, its over MAG10. If you increase your kb protection (breakfrees, buffs, IOs, etc), then you could stay on your feet through it. (Again, I don't know how much you'd need.) I believe BAB's special punch has unresistible knockback, as well.

[edit: Those are the only two attacks, to the best of my knowledge, that have unresistible knockback. Very rare indeed.

He knocked you back on an Invuln??? That's very interesting... I can't think of ANY time my Invuln has been knocked back by anything as long as Unyielding was running. I haven't ever faced States, but I've tanked Tyrant on many occasions... and never been KB'd. To the best of my recollection my Invuln hasn't ever been KB'd without something dropping Unyielding first.

For the moment I'd have to go with the "fluke" idea... is it possible Unyelding might have gotten detoggled? Maybe a Rage crash dropped the toggle at the critical moment?

Oh, just for the record, Hamidon can NOT knock back an Invuln with Unyielding... I tanked him a couple of hundred times on Guardian back in the issue 4-8 era.

Interresting, I never knew there were any attacks that did unresistable KB.

11? So ... what your saying is, statesman is in spinal tap?

Hamidon has knocked me back on my Invuln tank. A few times. Until Statesman, that was my only KB experience on him. My end was fine. Nothing ever detoggled.

Rikti UXBs will toss ya around too.

There are also some instances of repel standing in for knockback. But they are quite rare.

I did once get KBd in my Inv/Em tank when facing +3s. 2 Spawns for an 8 person team of Siege's robots (with the Erg blasts). Caught the alpha from both spawns simultaneously.

Strange, I never had Hami KB my Invuln in something like 200 raids; is this a recent change? I haven't done Hami since the changes in issue 9... the zone limits and other changes pretty well spoiled the encounter for me.

Same here ... I've never been KB'd by Hami (but it was the old Hami).

Toss you around? More like send you flying into the sky Team Rocket style.

It's kinda fun actually.

I have been knocked back on the RSF while running Granite+Rooted on my Nrg/Stone Brute. They do indeed have some serious KB powers

As an aside, I wouldn't use Hamidon as a standard anymore, as there are plenty of things in game (especially in MA) that are potentially more powerful.

Could have sworn Recichman even has more hp/regen than hami.

That reminds me, in one of the RWZ arcs, there are UXB bombs that your team has to disable/blow up. The first time I did this with a team, we were all KB'd back as if we'd been hit by thor's hammer. The entire team was like "LMAO, wut?"

I specifically remember the tank going :O in the chat window.

One of the most memorable experiences i've had on a team.

EDIT: Not sure if the UXB's in that missh were bugged or something, but you just had to be there to realize just how far a KB it was I'm talking about. Picture kbing a lvl 1 Hellion in ATLAS.
