Thoughts on Farming(?)
well just in the 10 months ive been here purples have more than tripled in cost.. and thats just what the markets done in that short time... judging on your reged date on these forums, im assuming youre at athe very least a 48 month vet.. i can only imagine what the prices were back in the day..
Im sure a single purple io didnt run you as much as 70 mil back then.. I just finished cherrys build, the last 3 pieces cost me a lil over 220 million.
when you break it all down, thats really what the issue is. If you didnt "farm" you could save up all your $ till you ding 50 and i bet youd not be able to buy even 2 full sets of purps.
sucks, i know.. but... its the reality of coh.
FARMING IS TEH EBIL !!!! EONEONEOENE!!!

Just fyi, IOs themselves didn't exist until Issue 9. Purple IOs weren't added until Issue 11, less than two years ago.
The reason purple IOs have increased so dramatically in price in the market since Issue 14 launched is because most farmers have moved to AE.

So then I assume you're upset with me? Why? It seems like things are being cleared up on what we few forum goer's believe is appropriate and not. I don't see a lot of "OMGNEWBUFARMINGFOOL!" going on, or "IFUHATEMECUZIFARMUSUXORS!"
I see some a little bit of heat, but nothing crazy.
I'd think considering what's being said you'd appreciate the constructive discussion. But then you're entitled to your own opinion and posting it, even if it's not helping anything.

Everyone knows how I feel 'bout this, so I don't care to repeat it.
In regards to the purps, I got 99% o' mine street-sweepin' solo. The rest were random drops on occasional ITF/STFs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? I don't.
[ QUOTE ]
I have 5 toons purpled to some extent. I haven't farmed for any of that influence.
[/ QUOTE ]
And you never stopped playing. How about those who'd like to compete who either, A. just started, or B. left for a period of time.
Things should just be compared objectively. I don't think you'd need to 'farm' for it. Long term vets have different situations than new people or those returning.

Purples dont drop in AE unless you're running a "Dev Choice" arc and nobody that I'm aware of farm those missions.
Since AE, most of the farmers have moved from PI to Atlas, therefore there's far less purples on the market now than there was prior the AE....which in turn has cuased the prices of purples to skyrocket.
When I purped my Fire/Kin, I guess the total cost was around 2B. If I were to sell everything on him right now, I would guess its worth between 4-5B.

You can get alot of influence just by playing the market. It doesn't take long, and you don't have to be a vet to do it.
Not directed at anyone in particular, but, did anyone ever consider that player greed may in fact be why prices have jumped ? If greed is the root of most evils, then farming MUST be from the Debil.....the Debil I say. So burn the witch, burn burn burn !!!

I would say greed is a part, but its not the overwhelming factor. Its more high demand vs low supply that makes the prices go up.
As for me?
I farm, and I keep to myself when doing it. I only invite people I know, and don't bother with other people that I don't know. I never broadcast asking for farms, or broadcast asking if people want in. When farming I always have at least 1 50 logged in doing at least half the work. And no, I do not PL all my toons. Infact alot of my old ones were not PLed.
I do not believe there is anything wrong with farming, unless it's leveling noobs who are horrible and bad players.
Farming for me is fun, and a good way to pass the time. It carries with it good rewards and enables me to fully IO my toons for TFs and PvP.
Also to note: Farming is doing anything over and over again. Farming exp, farming badges, farming IOs, farming radio/paper missions, farming streets (street sweeping), farming influence/infamy. It is all the same, and as Stray said, I have yet to hear someone prove objectively that any of the above is not farming.
Everyone farms, get over it, and stop being hypocritical, yes, you too cobalt.

Oh it's not that hard when ya don't use your biased definition of the word "farm".
I'll agree with the others.
This is to be addressed elsewhere.
Your server or not (I have 13 characters on Champion); it has to do with the whole game and not one server.
My stance is the same on any server I'm on.
The farmers have gone from being some-what annoying to a major problem.

Okay, I'll bite. Killing the same monster/GM more than once on the same toon would be considered farming monsters/GMs. Farming does not necessarily have anything to do with the reward received, its just the act of repeating an action more than once with little or no variation.
You may be against farming when its for xp, inf, merits, tickets, etc, but my argument is that there is no difference between that and any form of repetition, simply that it comes with varying degrees and rewards.
EDIT: And I'm going to go ahead and say it, because I see it coming. IBTL

Thanks. I had no idea. Apparently you missed the part where I said 'in a farm' which you specifically quoted.
And by the act o' repetition, I've farmed the game, as I've repeated the same content on numerous characters. Sorry, but no. I don't buy that. I have repeatedly put the boots to GMs before, but do I farm? No.
Thanks for playin'.

No need to get defensive, you're the one that challenged someone to find you in a farm. That's the problem though that I'm trying to understand is why a farm has to fit this very narrow definition that seems to only fit what you (collective, not necessarily directed at you Cobalt) view as being "unwholesome".
Trust me when I say this Cobalt, I respect your views, I'm just trying to have a debate as to why farming has to apply specifically to running the same map for drops and not to other forms of repetition.

See my example (i.e. repeatedly played through the content on numerous characters, yet it's not considered farmin'. I don't have the game on 'farm status'. Thus, not all forms o' repetition should be quantified as 'farming'.).
