Thoughts of I15?

I got in on an MP-led run of the Barracuda SF last night. I posted my thoughts on it here.

It sounds like the blue-side TF is a little better designed, or at the very least more forgiving.

The faces are kind of nice... believe it or not, I was wanting more options there, and I actually like some of the new ones. Already switched one of my guy's faces, but that will probably be a slow process for some of them as I play them and am willing to use the costume change token (plenty on some older characters, but not many on some newer ones).

I've heard people say they like the Ulterior pattern over the vines, but I rather like the look of Vines more. Just don't have much call to use it on my characters. Anyway, I hope they have a good slew of costume parts with the next issue, as we don't need any more hair or face options (though hats with or without hair would be great). More armor, hood, hat, etc. options would be nice, though.

Voo, it's pretty easy to make a keybind to change your costume. The names aren't too complicated and I have a list I grabbed from the forums... I bind the ones I want to keys on my numpad, and it works pretty nicely. Let me know if you want them (if you don't know how to do it already, you probably do, but I figured I would ask).

I'm half/half on the sound FX. Dirt in the caves sounds like your shooshing through snow or something, not running on dirt, and the old water sounded more realistic (if you're running or jumping into water, it should not sound like you just made a perfect dive like an Olympic diver). Air ducts on roofs sound nice, though. Good metallic booming sound (jumped and ran on a few during the long hops during the Posi last night).

Big issue here is they are using a few sounds to cover a variety of similar environment that should each have distinct sounds. The new water sounds sound better for indoor mission where you just run a cross some water where the old sound seems more appropriate for when you jump/fall into he later from 50 feet in the air. You expect some caves to be wet and muddy while others should be hard, dry, and echoey (yeah, I think I made the word up).

The new sounds are fine if they weren't simpy replacements. Barefeet, boots, high heals, and sneakers shouldn't all have the same sound effect. Now considering the shear amount of work would go into making each one distinct, there is simply no way of making everyone happy....well except Horatus.

I'm pretty sure he's set for life since the Magic Booster costume came into play.

I have to thank the Evil Rodent for letting me Emp the new hero tf. There were a couple of panicy moments but it was over with out too much trouble in [u]UNDER AN HOUR[u], and we weren't trying to rush. The second attempt on the Villain SF was successful with a time of 4 hours 57 minutes.

I was just great to see that the devs really really do hate redside.

The faces are kinda meh. The costumes are meh. the costume change emotes are cool. Evillaugh is the shizzle.

It really boggles my mind the disparity between basically the same TF/SF on the two sides of the thin purple line.

The dom changes are kinda cool I did a fairly extensive test with level 50 grav/fire dom. I'm sold all in all this is the only thing that kinda makes me think that at least one Dev doesn't hate villains.

To be fair, Scooter, the SF sounds a lot more fun to play. Reichs heroside is just a long, drawn out fight. You have to fight another AV as you go, which is a little wrinkle, but not much of one. Works nice to have two tanks though, to break the two up and drop the weaker one as you go.

Also, Horatio (a dev?) posted that the SF's merits are going to be increased to 30 in the next week or something, as they do know it is more difficult. He also said he was improving some dialogue and such... which makes me surprised. They had all this time and feedback, and didn't make sure they put these improvements in? First impressions mean a lot, and while I know they have time periods for new builds and stuff, it's a bit odd that they couldn't fit such important things in.

Wanted it in for 4th of July, I guess.

A SF worth more merits than the equivalent TF? Impossible!

I don't know about that. As I said last night, I've never heard the words "[insert TF name here] looking for a stalker and a dominator" before, but they did for the BSF.

That's so alien to me........I certainly can't say it sounds more fun IMO

The reason you want less-used ATs for that fight is because everyone gets a set of temp powers depending on their AT. Stalkers actually have a useful role! Shocking, I know...

But what you really want for the SF is an MM...

Hence the "IMO that doesn't sound more fun". Gives the impression of forcing you to use certain ATs instead of "yeah, we can do this with any mix, including your "less-used ATs". You never get my subtlety

Do all the temp powers *have* to be used? I don't know....I'm just going with impressions so far. And none of it entices me. I'm sure changes are coming "soon", so I'll probably wait unitl those are pushed through before I even try this one.

The powers are not required. In theory, you can beat him without using any... but it would be tough.

I hope they don't nerf the SF. They just need to clarify how things work in-game, and not on the forums or in some dev diary.

Really, all you need to beat the SF in the current state is a few debuffers. The "tools based approach" the devs talked about doesn't work because one of the critical tools (the MMs) is busted right now. After it's fixed, it may be possible to run the TF with a random PUG and beat it, but in the current form you really need to bring some good solid debuffing with you.

The Hero TF is the same way, except that it's not broken, you just need 2+ debuffers or be prepared to spend hours beating on him.

Hero side the temp powers are mostly useless. You have to use them at the start of the fight (once, out of the 80 shots you have spread throughout the team), but after that they're worthless. The quicker you learn that, the less time you spend trying to figure out why you have the dumb things.

Posted

Yeah, I'm very confused as to why you have so many shots if you only need it once as that Horatio said. Someone on the Tanker forums seemed to think it interrupts his big stunning attack, but I don't know if that's accurate.

My guess is that it interrupts the animation, but I doubt it prevents the power from affecting people just because the game just doesn't work that way. It would have to be set up as an interruptable power, but somehow only interruptable by the temp power. Nothing else in the game works like that.
