is SS/Fire any good?

I heard its offense is insane but lacks defense. Is it true? I'm duoing with a fire/kin cor so i figure the aoe power and damage would be insane togather.

Ok. I will try and not be snarky. I will say, that there are holes in the Fire Armor set that need to be looked at. You have no knockback, or immobilize protection. Before there was IO sets, the usual build for a Fire Armor had to have these pools, Fighting, Jumping, Fitness and most of the time Hasten. Now, with IO sets you can sometimes, depending on money or luck, get by very well without being forced into a build.

Super Strength goes very nicely with Fire Armor. The ticks of damage you see on a Blazing Aura when Rage, Fiery Embrace, and a near full Fury bar is giddy fun. It is a endurance hog but you get tools to help, or just keep a full tray of blues.

The set, when you get into the higher levels, which to me is in around 33 or 34, starts to shine. By then, you could have all your defenses set up, a not full attack chain, but Blazing Aura has been shown in the past to be a good resource for damage, with a good fun factor mixed in. Teamed with a Fire/Kin Cor, you will just mow through missions.

Have fun, And blaze away.

I'm wondering how you know about the forums yet don't know that SS/FA has been FoTM for a long time. It is generally considered the brute to farm with. Yes, it is very good.

Well I saw no guides in it so I did not know if it was or not.

Its more offensive than defensive, but you can kill everything fast enough to not need that much defense

In cases where you do need some more resist/defense (like if you are tanking on the ITF), hopefully at least one or two of your teammates have some kind of buffs. A good Sonic, bubbler, and/or Cold/Thermal can make you pretty much unkillable with little to no IO bonuses. You will have end issues unless you have a /Kin or /Cold on your team (Edit: or a lot of +Rec from IOs).

It is awesome. You can fix the KB hole with IO's, you fix the immob hole with Combat Jumping or Burn, and then you punch things and set them on fire until they die.

I'm always going to be group with a Kin. So i'm wondering if consume is every worth it with SB always on? I got hasten as well but not sure if I needed it with a duo kin.

I would still keep Consume. Rage and Hasten crash can really hurt your end bar.

Rgr that! Thanks for telling me. I think this char is the most fun i've ever had in this game.

I can honestly say,since iv had a SS/Fire Brute and a Fire/SS Tanker,that yes,the combo is extreemly powerful.

You pretty much cream anything,no matter if your a Brute or a Tanker. The Damage is just Fugly.

I liked the Brute vesrion alot, but for some reason the Tanker version felt nicer. No huge diffrences to me personally, especially when i could run upto a +3 mob ment for a 1 man team and obliterate the mob single handedly with my Tanker.

However, with the Brute Version, there was the occational "AH MAAAAN!" moments becuase of a Map Serve,or lag spike,or simply not being awake enough to realise i need to hit my Healing Flames Button.lol.

Either way,a ss/fire brute is pure fun,and once you get a full rage bar, well, pure poetry when you run into a mob and have Rage going and pop that Fiery Embrace.

Agesnt even con'd mobs, you should destroy them fast enough to where Healing Flames doesnt even come into play.

Then again,im a expert at playing and building Brutes and Tankers. However,i conplelty suck at any other AT in the game.(damn my short commings!)

Hasten is always good, and Consume is good when your end suddenly drops dangerously low from Rage/Hasten crash. It also does decent damage with full Fury (especially if you have FS from the Kin).

Just make sure you watch your health and end bar all the time. I can't tell you how many times I've died because I wasn't watching my hp and got stuck in an animation when I wanted to be using Healing Flames instead, or because an attack got rid of all my end... lol...

How well could a Tank FA/SS solo an AV?

Mines killed Manticore, +2, with no inspirations/no temps. Took 4 tries or so. Once you get used to eating the right candies... cakewalk. IOs are unimportant. Inspiration eating is key.

OK...not to threadjack, but if SS/FA is so awesomesauce for farms (and I have 2 Brutes and a Tank in this combo...love them), then why is it that AE teams insist on a */Stone Brute?

/Threadjack off

People are stupid.

Many players think that only a /Stone can survive a minus 10 minion attack. The old Tank/Heal/Nuke thinking.

Prior to IOs, WP and SR, Stone Brutes were the toughest SoBs around and used for the toughest tasks. It's players that may have taken a hiatus and returned that might not know that IOs make most secondaries much tougher and close the gap on Stone Brutes.

But Clouded. If someone where to IO out a /stone brute, to say +recharge, +run speed, +dam, in a sense, negating the draw backs of Granite, would that not increase the gap further?

To answer the original poster. SS/Fire is very good. Its fun, and solo friendly.

I have two on my main server. One on each account. Just for the fun of it.

SS/Fire is great for farming. Just make sure you bring some orange inspirs because other than fire resis, the damage resistance is garbage.

That gap is and always has been imaginary. Some think that survival is everything and thus choose sets most heavily focused on survival. One can get an /Elec, a /Fire, a /Dark, and other high damage sets to survive all of those crazy encounters. Inspirations can easily take you through any trouble spots.

Inspirations can't give Willpower a damage aura. Inspirations can't get /Stone increased recharge. Inspirations CAN give the other sets the same survivability.

Take the damage tools and add survival. Take excellent recharge and add even more.

Not really because the stone's brute survivability isn't much greater then a equally IOed WP, SR, Elec, etc etc brute.

Don't get me wrong, /Stone is the best set for straight up survivability when built right but it's just not needed anymore. Most teams offer some type of buffs/debuffs that make the additional survivability of an IOed Stone Brute superfluous.

I honestly can't remember when I saw the call for "LF Stone Brute" in broadcast or chat channels.

can someone send me a nice ss/fire build? never even thought of making one till now and I have drywall to hang and wifey agro. thanks

aww..darn...if you have wife aggro...us sending you a build will not cure that. In fact, it might cause it to grow.

Come back after you defeat that spawn. I would be happy to give you a build then.

Think of the children!!

OMFG like I can beat that spawn! Its a level 100000000000 AV x 1000
hehe

Chocolate....my dear reader.

Look up Max Brenners. Order something now. It will be there before 2xp weekend.

You get wife aggro, smack her with the chocolate. Its the best debuff you can get! Better than a Shivan and a Warburg Nuke.

More hints to defeating The Wife AV if you need them.

You know. That might be a good AE mission. Unstoppable AV like the new SF, have to find the glowies of chocolate, to beat the map. The minions and lts can all be kids of different ages that just want you dead...I mean your attention....hmmm....
