Hmmm, worst sets in my eyes eh?
How about...for starters...ahh heck,heres a list.(you may not agree,but,oh well)
Willpower
Empathy
Trick Arrow
Traps
Spines
Battle Axe
War Mace
Dark Armor
Sonic Blasts
Archery
Broad Sword
Thats about it. -
Maybe your asking for too much from the sets.
I personally enjoy the AR/Dev build, its about the only Blaster I can stand to play.
I dont think AR/ needs a accuraccy boost,it already has one vs all the other blaster power sets.Add it with Targetting Drone,do your math, its a very accurate build.
Now,if your dissapointed with damage, then simply dont continue playing that build. You seem to want what alot of people want for this build, more power that you dont need.
Lets put it this way...if you "knew" how to play this build, youd realize, that its a very easly solo friendly build, and even better on teams with tough odds.
Lets take for example AVs.This ones easy to accomplish on a team.
let the tanker take agro, walk your stealthed bad self up there.Full Auto the AV in the face, after its done and recharging, drop a Time Bomb beside it,while your setting a Time Bomb, allow your Gun Drone to unload a few shots into the AV.
After setting the time Bomb,Sniper Shot the AV in the Face,Set a Mine,Set another Mine....Boom.....Boom...(time bomb goes off about this time) KA-BOOM!
Toss down Trops if you feel the need, but its dependant if the AV will move.(they normally do)
Flamethrower whenever,Then start again...Was Rinse Repeat.
Now when your on a hard TF,and you wanna be helpful,USE YOUR CLOAKING DEVICE FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!
You can time how you attack, and how you place Bombs, and Mines.its a great team saver on TFs that have wave of reinforcements.....note where they will apear, its not hard to figure out if you pay attention by the 1st or 2nd wave...place mines...AoE blast the Mob during Mine Recharge times, set another Mine, then another...and another...step back... and as soon as they apear, they get hit by multipul exsplosions that just rocked the entire reinforcing wave, and lets say you just feel the need to lob a Grenade when they apear and hit the mines too...
This build is definatly not nearly as weak as you feel it is.It has plenty of AoE with the AR/ part of the sets to obliterate mobs, and cuase massive damage.
Be smart, take the grenade, take buckshot, take the flame thrower, and if you dont take Full Auto...then this definatly aint the blaster for you.(not accussing, just pointing out massive failure to play the build if thats skipped)
To be totally Honest, theres not a single thing wrong with this build, other then you belive it needs more then the power it already has.
Help your self out,roll a Fire/EM Blaster,youll have more fun. -
Oh,i almost forgot!
As for a scrapper outlasting a Tanker,i have yet to meet one yet, however,i have played a Kat/SR,and a Claws/Regen that have easly taken the roll of Tanker, due to either the Tanker couldnt be found,or the Tanker couldnt handle it.
I use Scrappers a bit diffrently,i tend to make them use as many tricks as i can,to increase survivability.I build my Scrappers like Tankers, and my Tankers like Scrappers...and it acctually seems to be a better system overall.
Also,i make my Peacebrincers like a Scrapper, and they come out pretty tough at higher lvls, without taking White Dwarf.
They have plenty of power.
Now my favorite build, that ill have to say,i dont play like most do,is a Gun/Dev Blaster.I enjoy a good Tanker at this point, and perfer them pull atleast 2-3 mobs (if they can handle it),and put a time bomb with max damage enhancers on the ground.....Stap back, hit Full Auto....then KA-BOOM!
Blood,guts,spit,and <Bleep> go flying everywhere!
HOOYAH! -
To be totally honest,im beyond the premadonna portion of the Tanker rivalry. My favorite character is a Tanker, and i dont mind another tanker on the team.
Its usuallly becuase no matter what build they are,i end up the Alpha out of the other tankers in the group.
My main played characters on Freedom, are a fire/fire tanker and a fire/SS tanker. Most commonly ill be grouped with a tanker that is a Stoner,or a Invln, and more commonly,Willpower, and they end up taking mace, axe,or EM,and some Sheild tankers come along, they are decent, but they cant survive long without a healer, and i still end up dishing out more mob wide devistation then they can anyhow.
Im a offensive player by nature.Every AT i make, especially Tankers,i build for outright destruction.
Iv tanked the ITF many times, and i ended up many times being the Alpha tanker, even when there was a Granite Tanker presant.
Its a bit of a mockery when you come into my team,or i join a team,as another tanker, and say something about how fire armor being weak, and i end up outshinning the other tankers on the team due to shear power and damage.
Rage+Fiery Embrace,or Build Up+Fiery Embrace,and NUKE!
(Super Strength or Fiery Melee)
Personally,FM with FA on a Tanker is the nastiest build iv ever played for a tanker.
Run in,Build Up,then Fiery Embrace,Combustion,FSC,back up for a mob-wide FB,then Combustion again before the 2 BUs are done...and not to mention your FA is hitting the mob, wave after wave for 30-40 damage a hit.
Sure,i have to hit the healing Flames button from time to time, but i can honestly say,iv impressed other tankers iv added to the team,or been recruited to work along side, but i think the rivalry is a bit deeper then just another Tanker.
Iv had Scrappers acctually complain that my Tankers could do more damage then they could, and that i need to Tank, not kill stuff.Which i acctually found rather commical.
If you make a good tanker,and play it well,there is no rivalry,your it...your the Alpha,period. -
Personally,i see Fire Armor as a armor set for tankers that will still outshine Elec/,mainly becuase it offers 2 major advances vs the 2 sets.
Fiery Embrace, more damage, and secondly, yeah, itll have some resistance diffrences, where fire will still be just under elec armor, but wheres the 3/4 HP heal for the Elec/ Tanker?
Fire/ wins,again. -
Im curious as to why people belive Controllers solo slowly.Controllers iv made roll over maps, and have even tanked Invinsible Missions ment for a 8 man team and destroyed the mobs by them selves at a alarming rate.(My Plant/Rad Controller was a beast!)
I like Dominators, and i like only certain types of Controllers.
Id say becuase i come from a long list of games to where "Self Heals" are important,id have to say in favor of Controllers. -
Man.....i remember back in my day...we didnt have to run all the way back to Atlas to grab people who might not stay in team long enough to travel several city maps to play a single mission.
-
Ok,i cant take anymore of the game play iv been experiancing latly.
Iv only got so long to play a day,due to daily life,a job,and other concerns.Im about to name off all the problems stemming from the addition of AE to the game.(my personal complaints, and what iv seen)
Ok,its pretty bad when you go and make a new Hero or Villian to play, and when iv made a Scrapper recently,i didnt look for AE missions, but at the same time,i have been on 5 diffrent sewer teams in the last 3 days, and all of them fell apart.Sometimes shortly after the first 3 mobs of the sewer. My Scrapper is lvl 6.Thats annoying.
Its even been voiced by atleast 3 people out of those doomed teams, that say,"Forget this,im gonna go do AE!".Thats there excuse for not working with the rest of the team, they see no merit in a mission lesser then a AE mission.
Thats starting to bug me.
On top of that,Atlas is now a haven for the worste lag iv ever seen in this game becuase soo many people are at the AE building, that we need a Atlas 2.
The Hollows are now HOLLOW,Skyway is empty 99% of the time,Steel Canyon is all but unpopulated for most the day,as well as most other map areas.
Trying to get a regular team going now,is close to impossible now.I dont mind soloing, but, theres a limit to just how much soloing you really want to do,no matter who you are.
When i finally do get on a team with ANY of my characters,i find that the team is roughly 4-6 players, and after 1 mission, half the team leaves....whats the point?!Sometimes the entire team breaks off,due to boredom or AE.
Theres also been a couple things iv noticed that have just urked me to no end...here this senerio i went through just yesterday.
Im running along in Atlas on my newby Scrapper, and im fighting, the next thing i know...another player...a level 1,asks me where to go for the trainer.heres how it goes...
"Excuse me,but where do i go to level up?"
(me) "You goto the trainer here in Atlas, look for a Ms. Liberty"
"Where is that at?Can you show me?"
(me) "Open your map, youll see a dot that will say her name, its towards the middle of the map"
"Well,can you just show me?"
(at this point,im thinking,"ok,its a new player, ill show them,i remember my first time on this game,i couldnt find anything",and so i take him to the Atlas Trainer)
(me) "ok,here you go,talk to this girl, and youll be able to train up your levels here"
"Thank you for the help!"
At this point,im finishing up dinner, and i go AFk for a few minutes.I finish up cooking, come back, and i get a /tell.its the same new player that i brought to the trainer,he was asking me where he should go now since he has trained.i said well, open your map, find a red dot, that says the Hollows, and he tells me he found it,then i told him id meet him there.I get to the Hollows gate in Atlas, where he is waiting, and i click his name, and i see a 50 by it.....
By this point,im acctually jealous and a bit ticked off. Here is a new player, that on his first freaking day, dings lvl 50,without knowing a single thing about the game, its content, and is now on the other side of his computer screen looking at me asking where to go,and what to do now.
I was rather pissed off,and i simply turned off my computer, and picked up a book, and read for the next couple hours before bed.
There was never a problem getting onto a team in this game, and there was certainly never a problem learning things in the game, becuase if you wanted it,YOU HAD TO WORK FOR IT!
Now days, thats simply not true.Im a well seasoned player, and iv been off and on since CoV Edition hit the shelves,i havnt been here since beta,or since just the CoH half of the game,i started up when Viallians came along.
I have a 2 year vet account, and this is my 6 month account.I dont even know everything about the game, and i certainly havnt exsperianced all the content yet either.
AE needs to get dropped off the map...completly..Its a flawed creation engine inside a game. The idea of making your own missions is great, but its destroying the community of this game, and bringing people who just want levels, and have no clue how to play the game. They will get bored, and leave the game.Leave for some other online game that hasnt hit rock bottom.
All games make a fatal Mistake, and this is one of those moments when a fatal mistake has been struck.AE will kill the game.Take it out like a splinter, and the game will start to go back to normal.none of the changes iv seen that have occured in this game before AE,have had this huge of a impact.
I have enjoyed this game over some time,i cant always play it,and i just want my favorite video game back.....and im not the only person that feels this way. There are tons more problems happening becuase of AE,other then what iv just listed. So here is the bottom line...
TAKE AE OUT OF THE GAME!! -
The first blaster i ever played on this game was a AR/Dev Blaster,i did rather well vs villians when the old Defiance granted obseen damage, but i pretty much tossed that account and blaster after they changed it.
Latly iv seen a few blasters running around on Freedom that are AR/Dev Blasters, and iv watched them totally destroy Stalkers,Brutes,Dominators, and Corrs.iv even seen a AR/Dev chase down and destroy a couple VEATs.
Whats making them so powerful vs other blasters? Is it the Stealth from the /Dev set? Some Stalkers cant even see them.Did they get a Stealth IO that allows them to hide from most players?even Stalkers?
Im curious how they are so strong, and how they are destroying Stalkers especially,is it the Trops?Becuase if this build is now viable again,i may make it again.
Anyone seen what im talking about? -
For me personally,im a Fire tanker player.
Id have to say its a toss up between fire/fire,and fire/SS.Both of them are alot tougher then most avid Tanker players care to admit, and it takes a extreem amount of punishment before it goes down due to its Healing Flames power.Alot of people that are inexperianced with FA/ dont 6 slot this power for max heal and max recharge, big mistake.
If you want very nasty offensive power by higher levels,id go with a fire/fire tanker.Mine can rip a mob apart built for a 8 man team thats +3 over my own level, and survive just fine.
I find invuln rather lacking, even after the current improvments to the power. It offers what i must admit,a great max teir power that pretty much makes you invinsible, however, its got a nasty crash, and if your not paying attention to it,in pve,or pvp, your DEAD!
FA/ from my experiance is the easier tanker set to use,and by far,the easiest to stay alive with.Granted,Granite armor hangs 100% in the lead for tankers,it has just way to many draw backs.Such as speed, - recharge of your powers, and - damage on all of your attacks, and lets not forget that your ROOTED to the ground.
Now personally,i did like SD/ for a tanker, but, for some reason, even though i liked it,it didnt grow on me at all,so i erased that tanker at the mid 20s.
The one thing i can say about FA/ for tankers,is that it takes alot more thinking and diffrent playing style to be able to use it properly. Most players have it in there head, that a tanker shouldnt have to do anything more then jump into a mob,and if they cant handle it,then they need that healer to save them.Which i belive is becuase these same people come from other games that pretty much require that the tanking character have a healer there at all times.
My self, and im sure atleast a small portion of the players in this game, tend to build for self reliance, and thats exactly what FA/ is made for.
Solo or in a team,if you play your FA/ tanker right, your golden.
No other set offers what FA/ does. You need health?Boom,Healing Flames. You need more damage?Boom,Fiery Embrace.
Alot of people will argue that FA/ is a terrible set to play, becuase it has no knock down resistance. This is true,it doesnt. However, its easly fixed in a number of ways.
Get Acrobat from the Jumping pool,or simply save a power and buy 2 powers from the flying pool and youv got your resitance and travel power.Hover and Fly.You cant be knocked down while flying or hovering in pve,and only if someone has a -fly power can you be taken to the ground in pvp, but,at the same time,it lasts about 2-3 seconds in pvp as it is.
The last one,is simple, put a knock down resist in your Temprature Protection power. And belive me,this power is acctually worth it.alot of people skip this power, and they suffer in pve missions that contain Crey,CoT,and many many more.Thats another reason why people gripe about FA/.they dont pick or slot the powers properly, they are sloppy, and most other tanker sets, you can acctually be sloppy when it comes to powers and slots and be decent.Thats why alot of people skip FA/.
However,my all time favorite tanker build,im going to have to go with FA/SS.No other sets have shined more to me then these 2 combo'd together.
When i active rage, and hit Fiery Embrace, and charge into a mob and foot stomp for 200+ damage to the entire group, and my Blazing Aura hits them 3-4 times before they get back up,mob wide, for 35-40 damage a hit (some mobs are weaker to fire then others),iv already cuased around 360ish damage on my own. Then if i want to add insult to injury, ill hit Burn right after Foot Stomp, for even more damage before they get up.so your looking at atleast 500 damage by the time the mob gets up.Granted that Burn might not hit the entire mob,its definatly effective.
Yes,people will complain that theres no Immob protection for a FA/ Tanker,WRONG!thats what Burn is for, thats 1 of the specifics of that power.
Iv had scrappers call my FA/FM,and my FA/SS Tankers Scrankers.Which is kinda funny, especially when one of them speaks up and complains that im a tanker and im not supposed to be able to do damage. Then they attack my ability to tank, and bad mouth that im not a good tanker. This also,is the same type of person that came from a game to where everyone has a specific role, and they cannot deviate.Which is simply not to true in CoX.
FA/ doesnt need a boost at all,in fact,id say its perfection. You cant be half way with this set,you have to go all the way.Treat this set good, and itll treat you good.
I know im not the only person who feels this way about FA/,and many other power sets in all the ATs of the game.
Fire Armor takes acctual skill, and proper maintnance to play.Thats why most lazy people got for invln, and or willpower, amd then rock armor. They dont want to be self reliant.they require baby sitters, and it doesnt matter what kind,a Invuln does great on solo missions,in full teams, they need a damage dealer,or a healer, and half the time, both,or they simply will not survive, even with there max teir power.
Not saying its impossible, but, the crash is a pain, and if your paraniod enough to wait for it to wear off,to prove people like me wrong, and reactivate it.Then good for you.Keep in mind,if you ever die in a mission and you have the unstoppable power, and you blame the other players on the team, like the healer for not getting to you fast enough,or the blasters from not killing everything fast enough, your a terrible tanker. If you cant atleast keep up with the scrappers in the group when it comes to damage, your a even worse tanker.Theres no excuse.
I find most sets in the tanker power list to be totally worthless tot he team.yeh, you harder to kill, you can do decent ST damage, otherwise, you contribute far less to the team with these powers.
When a Invln/BA Tanker runs up,and taunts the mob,and does its BU (if it even took that power),it might do about 100 Damage to the mob on its whirling axe attack. Then what?the entire team has to pick up your slack.
Iv watched as Granite,Invln, and Willpower Tankers take a back seat and let me take the lead.Especially on my fire/fire tanker. When you charge up,run into the mob,and almost wipe it in 2-3 attacks, people tend to hang back, especially other tankers with ST power sets.
I call Invln a ST power set, becuase it offers no additional damage at all,and unless the tanker knows his or her tuant button use, they only protect them selves.Other sets like FA/,IA,DA/,add a great deal of holding the mob completly on them,FA/ does additional damage, and DA/ does additional damage and debuffs, and id have to say that Ice Armor is by far,the best agro grabbing set in the entire game when it comes to tankers. It has additional damage delt mob wide from icicles, and a debuffs that not only slow mobs, but gives them - recharge to there attacks.
The only Invln or Willpower Tankers iv ever seen pull there weight in a team, have been Fire Melee,Ice Melee,or Rock Melee.Becuase they have the ability to cuase mob wide mischief,or damage.
Having a tanker with ST attacks, and ST resistances/dodge bonuses,is like having a defender that wont attack when theres a chance to do so,or simply doesnt have any attacks other then there level 1 attack, thats completely unslotted or enhanced. Its a waste.
A Defender has Medium Damage, and alot of players wont build one that has offensive power....heres a shocker...Tankers have Medium Damage too! (Heavy Pun Intended),and they can dish out damage if they so choose.
I know,i know,im gonna be flammed, and my spelling isnt that great, and im sure alot of these tankers go beyond just being lazy, and build them selves to be a team gimp, for astetic purposes, and becuase of the blah blah blah,<inscert BS here>.
Facts are facts,if your not a heavy hitter, and your armor set doesnt grant much vs a mob other then your personal protection, you,my friend, are dead weight.
Heres what i belive would give you a better fun factor for a tanker.
Choose 1 of the following for your armor set.
Fire Armor
Ice Armor
Dark Armor
Choose 1 of the following for your Melee Set.
Fire Melee
Ice Melee
Super Strength
Rock Melee
Keep in mind,Mob control,or Mob Damage,or maybe both,is the best way to build a tanker.Dont be a gimp. -
Theres a few iv seen, and have abosolutly trashed some of my toons, and alot of other players.
A rad/rad Corr that flies is a very nasty killer.Took out my scrapper,my defender, and i watched it destroy some tankers. It attacks so fast, and repeated a attack chain of Proton Volley and Cosmic Burst, and some Nutereno Bolt.Even my Regen Scrapper couldnt hold up agenst it.it was dog meat.
Then iv seen some Dominators of several diffrent types rip up the scene, and then of coarse,Stalkers, and a Willpower Brute will tear things apart most times, alot of hero players cant beat them down fast enough before they get thrown back to the hospital.
Also, what else seems to be popular-ish for villian pvpers,is a SS/FA Brute. The little freaks heal just fast enough to be problematic on the pvp scene.
Hope this helps. -
For farming,i acctually have to say a Fire/Fire/Pyre Tanker is a notch in the lead.
I used to play a pure fire tanker, and belive me,i could go into a mob ment for 8 players on invinsible and annyalate it.
I never ran accrossed another tanker or scrapper that could deal out the massive AoE damage this tanker can do,and most couldnt even touch the ST damage i could dish out.
Go pure fire.Theres no way from lvl 1-50 that you should ever face plant easly. -
Heres the way i see the list, and this list is based on more then just Damage, but complete survivability vs Villian & Hero combatants as a whole,as well as useable tools (like Hide ect),and the capability to win a fight. This also includes the acctual AT fighting without a couple buff bots standing by in the hospital,or outside buffs from other players,or Inspirations.....Here it is.
1) Tanker
2) Brute
3) Stalker
4) Peacebringer
5) VEATs
6) Scrapper
7) Dominator
8) Blaster
9) War Shade
10) Corruptor
11) Mastermind
12) Defender
13) Controller -
I can honestly say,since iv had a SS/Fire Brute and a Fire/SS Tanker,that yes,the combo is extreemly powerful.
You pretty much cream anything,no matter if your a Brute or a Tanker. The Damage is just Fugly.
I liked the Brute vesrion alot, but for some reason the Tanker version felt nicer. No huge diffrences to me personally, especially when i could run upto a +3 mob ment for a 1 man team and obliterate the mob single handedly with my Tanker.
However, with the Brute Version, there was the occational "AH MAAAAN!" moments becuase of a Map Serve,or lag spike,or simply not being awake enough to realise i need to hit my Healing Flames Button.lol.
Either way,a ss/fire brute is pure fun,and once you get a full rage bar, well, pure poetry when you run into a mob and have Rage going and pop that Fiery Embrace.
Agesnt even con'd mobs, you should destroy them fast enough to where Healing Flames doesnt even come into play.
Then again,im a expert at playing and building Brutes and Tankers. However,i conplelty suck at any other AT in the game.(damn my short commings!)
