That August survey was just marketing goin' crazy
If the spy archetype (if we are getting it) let's me play as Solid Snake, James Bond, or Sam Fisher, then bring it on.

Every time some of us pointed out the detailed plans laid out in the August survey, many of you were quick to say "Hey that was just marketing folks regurgitating all our wish lists. No way all that stuff is planned!" Let's do a little review:
MA: Check.
Side switching in Going Rogue: Check.
Power customization in i16: Check.
But I'm sure we'll never see a Spy archetype or universal enhancement slots, right? If only they had put items on that survey that the devs were actually planning on implementing!

It would be a big mistake to take that marketing survey as a roadmap for future content. I can think of at least 2 things that were on there that were either radically changed or outright cut, and a bunch of stuff that's not on there, but are being worked on right now.

I hope that's cut. I'd prefer that the choice of whether a character switches sides or not was done based on character-based reasons, not what rewards they might or might not get a shot at.

I think the idea here is that if you have a hero character, who's never going to 'go rogue' and become a villain, you could instead continue to do heroic things and eventually become an exemplary hero...at which point, you'd have access to rewards not available in other ways.
Whereas exemplary villains would just get shafted cause we hate them.

Whoa, that's an incredibly rarefied phrase to bust out! In case anyone is wondering, this is the only place I could find it discussed out side of Theodore Sturgeon's wiki entry. (Where it is not called by that name either...)
Cheers!
Babs' post earlier in this thread where he said "It would be a big mistake to take that marketing survey as a roadmap for future content. I can think of at least 2 things that were on there that were either radically changed or outright cut" had me thinking that perhaps they had scuttled the idea of Universal Enhancement Slots. The more I had considered that feature, the more I thought it might alter game balance too much.
Yet the recent Boomtown.net interview with Posi had this exchange:

Boomtown: Looking forward the first paid expansion has been announced Going Rogue. Please explain to our readers what the new expansion will bring.
Matt Miller: I cant release much information yet. Hopefully the name alone, Going Rogue, provides a good foreshadowing to what the game will encompass. But among other things there will be new zones, the ability to switch a hero to a villain and vice versa, and difficult tasks for level 50 characters to do that make them more powerful.
[/ QUOTE ]
Obviously "more powerful" could mean lots of things. But it is intriguing!
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.

B) 8.) New Spy Archetype, Power Sets & Costumes As cool as it sounds at first, a non-combat AT will be issolated from the rest of the community, there will no be a role for it on almost any team. This eventually would be an issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
So you assume that a Spy AT is a full 50 level archetype, right after Spider soldiers and Widows were introduced. One of the biggest problems I've seen with the game being able to introduce Golden Era heroes and villains is the lack of 'spy' skills. Heroes of the seventies plus are an order of magnitude greater than heroes of that earlier age. The Phantom, The Shadow, Doc Sampson, Two Gun Kid, The Ghost Tank, The Howling Commandoes, Nick Fury, Black Widow... the list is huge! Widows and Spiders are 'proof-of-concept' for starting with one architype and then moving into something else (ala Carol Davers, Air Force Pilot, Government Operative, Ms. Marvel, Binary, yada, yada...).
Batman, Doc Strange, Iron Man, Prof. Xavier and Mr. Fantastic all fit the Pulp Era 'thinker' motiff. They figure out what the bad guy wants or how the bad guy keeps winning, and they change their own powers to suit. So if the Spy represents the beginnings of 'skills' rather than powers, I say bring it - I'd love to take the skill 'Sorcerer Supreme' (cept that might be copywrited, shoot...)
Just call me "The Pool Guy" - cause I believe that power pools are the ultimate in powerset proliferation. Fewer powers to develop and available to all.
