Question for Plant/ or Mind/ Trolls.

I just started a Plant/Kin troller. I love plants, but the thing I've had my doubts about is that my main spammable control from spawn to spawn is an AoE confus.

Have you guys ever had ppl say anything to you asking you not confuse? I mean, you can clearly tell that you get less experience the mroe dmg the confused mobs do.

The control of seeds + the aoe immob is just so solid right after the tank goes in. Are you assuming that the xp lost is being offset by the ease you kill things with (since the confused mob dmg does aid in killing stuff faster). Unless you're being wreckless and confusing things nobody is anywhere near ready to kill, it shouldn't be an issue ya?

I figured as a Plants/Kin nobody would really tell you anything if they wanted speed boost. Let me know what you guys think.

yes.

tests have been done that show the xp/hour is better when you use confuse

No team has ever given me flack about confuse. I have found teams most glad to have a large degree of safety while breezing through missions. I paired it with /therm so the shields and heals plus the confuse make my teams very safe indeed. My plant controller has been very popular, as I'm sure a plant/kin will be too.

I've gotten declarations at various times not to confuse, and even not to use fear powers. I just skip the power. Either the control doesn't matter because the group is strong enough, or they deal with the consequences. People are always allowed to do things to their detriment.

In general, the XP you get for a mob which is partially defeated by a confused compatriot is not significantly reduced unless you let the other mobs do most of the work. If you or your team do at least 50% of the damage, you will get at least 80% of the mob's XP. And given how much safety the confusion provides, and how much the damage done speeds you up, it almost always works out to a net gain in XP over time.

This is what it means to be a tank!

I've played both a Plant/Rad controller and a Plant/Psi dominator and, on both toons, I have never had anyone complain about confusion.

Thing with confused mobs is, they only have 50% ToHit, so they're not going to kill each other unless you sit back and do nothing. On a good team, the confused foes won't even have a chance to hurt one another.

It -does- make it a touch harder for tanks to grab stray agro, though (in case SoC misses a few targets), but that's the only tactical drawback i can think of.

Simple: If people on your team are asking you not to use confuse because they fear lost XP . . . then it is time to get a better team.

You don't "lose XP" because you never earned it. Confuse powers can reduce the amount of XP available to earn, but the trade off is faster defeats, safer battles and getting XP that you did not "earn." As said above, you get 80% of the XP for doing 50% of the damage. Confuse powers are some of the best in the game, and if your team doesn't understand that, then explain it to them or find a new team.

People here know that... many people in the game don't know that or believe the contrary and a large faction of those are unreasonable. I cannot be bothered to argue with unreasonable people.

Actually that kind of belief is the same as teams who insist on taking 5x the time plus debt to defeat +4s compared to defeating +3s, and think they are getting more xp because each +4 mob gives them more xp than each +3 mob.

Good info. Loving my Plants/Kin so far. I feel like my Vines misses eveyrthing whenever I don't use an insp though, but I'm hoping that will level out with IO's.

Can't wait for carrion creepers. I love the sound of it, very cool.

One thing I like about plants/ is that it's very team-orientated in its visuals. It's very clear for your team to see what your doing, when an AoE hold is in effect, all that good stuff.
