Purples and Bosses

Howdy folks, since purple recipes can drop from any mob i assume that includes bosses, do bosses have better drop chances of recipes than other mobs? (and thus by extension also of purples?)

Well, at the very least, bosses should have the same drop rate as minions. I've gotten purples from both minions and Lts, so they should be available off all ranks.

I always thought purples were Pool A, so I only looked at that part.

In retrospect, it makes sense that they aren't pool A, but rater an "extra" pool, like costume parts, otherwise they'd show up at lower levels, and maybe in Bronze Rolls.

That I don't know about. I think that may just be related to the fact that the only exist at level 50. Level 10 mobs won't drop Mako's Bites, because they don't exist from levels 10-13.

I'm actually fairly sure they are. Reason being, when the bugged cargo ship map was around with its predictable drop-points (if you switched in/out of SG mode at particular points), regular Pool A recipes and Purple recipes could drop at the same points in the sequence (but never at the same time). However, costume parts (which drop from a different "pool") never fell at those points in the sequence, and would only fall from minions that never dropped recipes otherwise.

Based on extensive testing an, uh, SG member did. Of course.

Also, I'm not sure where the 1 in 5,000 number comes from - my guess is it's based on empirical data from players, because as far as I know Positron never stated the rate publicly. Regardless, it's suspect to me because it doesn't mention 5,000 of what. Assuming the recipe is Pool A (which makes sense, since calling it "Ultra Rare" invites comparison with "Rare" and "Uncommon"), bosses should drop them more often than minions.

Based on market data, I've always held that purples drop about once per 6 rare Pool As, and all the data I've seen posted on the forums seemed to support a rate somewhere around there.

I've had several purple drops in my day. None of them have came from a boss. Mostly minions and lieu.

None. Just like you can't get them from the random rolls at Merit Vendors. Gold rolls give you recipies from the combined TF/Trial drop pool.

Ahhhh .... that explains a bunch ... so I need to start TF farming then? Any recommendations on which ones to use?

I think you misread me. You can't get them with merits either. Merit rolls and Gold ticket rolls are effectively the same thing.

As a result, there's no special value in farming TFs. What you do if you want purple drops is to defeat lots and lots of level 47+ mobs.

A TF is a reasonable place to do that, but you usually run TFs on a team, and every time there's a mob drop, it's randomly assigned among the people on the team. Thus, teaming is potentially bad for getting purples. The analysis of that is complex - teams usually fight more mobs more quickly, but do they do so at least N times as fast for a team of N players? This depends on the team and what they're fighting, and whether you could take on what the team is by your self.

Ok, I have one of my alts parked at 47 (Heroic-ish rep) and a 50 running on the alt account. Not being able to get fillers in PI anymore because they're in the MA/AE in AP, I basically run as a duo.

While running radios in PI, I noticed that Lvl 47 minions didn't drop anything to my 50, so...

Should I bump the alt up to 48 or would running on Invincible as a 47 be better?

(Ultimately, I'd like to paint a map with 6 fillers on the outside and run my 2 accounts inside, but that's a pipe dream right now)

well, if you run 2 accounts, i d recommend you try to create a hi risk/ratio farm on MA, make the mob tought but set on easy, like blasters, then play on diff 4, aka unyelding.

1 boss per mob, all other lieuts, copy a dev created farm, make it harder, get more rewards.

Plain and simple.

it would be fun if you'd get nerfed or banned playin the actual devs'content on a harder scale.

I already did the MA thing. Posi got a shot in his trot and I'd rather not use his lil baby for awhile. Right now I'd rather stay away from that festering infection.

Besides, the point here for me is Purples, not merits, skiball tickets, lolTokens, or bollywop doll currencies that the Devs keep creating to skew the rewards. I figure that even with some of my MA->Market rolls, I still want to purple out 1 character, maybe 2 before I reach old age and die. I have pretty much everything else for one of my builds except the Purples.

besides 8 man farms.

look me up if you wanna play old style, i wouldnt mind a lil dual farmin' like in the ole days.

WW?...Oh You mean that place in the round building where those NPCs get clicked on. Yeah, after 10 minutes, my computer unfreezes and I see the stuff I bought cheap and sold higher has actually SOLD and I collect my earnings. That Place?

I don't want to buy, nor can I afford to buy them. I want to bust my [censored] grinding so I can get them as drops. I can use the ones I need and sell the ones I don't. Maybe after a few drops I can afford to buy one or two.

Level 47 minions con grey to a 50. Only the LTs and Bosses con green or better. Grey-conning enemies won't give drops, even if they give XP. Bump your level 47's difficulty up to 4 (for larger groups of level 48 enemies) and try again.
