Get rid of the music during the CoH install

The player received a way to download without the music. End of thread.

[/ QUOTE ] The OP didn't ask for an alternate installtion procedure. They asked for the removal or change of the "horrid music". The problem here is the Disc installations do not include a way to disable the music. That is not solved.

While the OP may go a different route now for future installs, it's still a good SUGGESTION so that new players wont be faced with the same problem. Besides that, not everybody agrees that it's even a problem.. it's just a suggested feature to add a "mute music" toggle to the installation process.

The music during the installation program is working as designed, and working as intended. Just because the OP does not like the design and deciding to HiJack the sound off doesn't make it a technical issue. That was the OP's choice. As many have pointed out, if the OP felt the music was not to his/her liking, they can simply reduce the volume. There was no error, problem or conflict with the application forcing him to do anything.

Here's that "awesome" song. The original is a 10MB Wave file. I converted it to MP3 for the sake of download. Other than that: it's the full tune.

The awesome song being referred to is probably the CoH or CoX login theme. The 'song' from that link is not something I've ever heard in CoX. Were you installing through Steam or something?

That song plays during installation for the Good VS Evil DVD (bought it Gamestop). I've also confirmed from a friend that it plays on the Architect Edition DVD (bought from Best Buy).

Before anyone asks: neither are pirate versions. 100% legit copies... unless Gamestop and Best Buy are pirating software.

It's called Install_loop.wav during installation. The file is extracted after picking the hard drive destination... IIRC in your temp folder of Local Settings.

The file and/or player didn't show up in Taskmgr processes; seemed to be considered part of the CoH setup. Tried removing the wav file from the temp dir, but it killed the install. Hence my need of something like HighjackThis to get more specific and kill the player.

If you want me to upload a desktop recording of me installing CoH on Youtube, I could do that... but I don't think I'll have to go that far... err... do I?

Why not just open your volume mixer and mute it out?

I usually run the game at a fraction of the volume compared to the rest of my system because I've either got a vid playing on the side or Itunes running.

Just another way around it. And I never had music on my installs of the game. Then again this is going back to the original disks. pre CoV.

Then when I had to change machines I just went downloaded the updater from the website, less hassle of sitting here with the disks, just click and go do whatever.

Now imagine listening to that over and over and over and over.

Turning off your PC speakers/volume shouldn't have to be done. They should just get rid of the song or have a check box to kill it. There's nothing wrong with a tune playing for a few seconds when the installer starts... tons of games do it. But they don't play music thru an entire 10 or 20 minute install, because it gets annoying. ESPECIALLY if that song is looping a 30 second tune.

Annoying isn't a strong enough word IMHO... but I'd get modded for saying the alternative.

Oh cool, thanks for the format/download, I love that song.
