Sooo...just to be clear. We're paying a monthly fee to make our own content and now they want 20 bucks to do more work that gets destroyed with each nerf and removal?

You guys are all day suckers

I'm paying a monthly fee to play a game I enjoy. A "sucker" would be someone who was paying a monthly on a game they didn't enjoy. You [u]do[u] enjoy COX, don't you?

Yeah, but the monthly fee covers full use of the MA and three data slots. I can't think of a way this is anything besides selling me 100k worth of disk storage for six bucks (or five bucks in "bulk").

That seems like something of a sucker deal to me. Not that I can't afford $6 (or $20) but I have a hard time justifying it for what I get.

But, whatever. They didn't have to do anything so at least those who want to drop the cash on it have the option.

This "deal" reminds me of that old saying ...

"Be careful what you wish for."

Um, I didn't wish for microtransactions. Paying real money being the only way to get more slots was the last thing I wanted.

What I wish for, actually is more slots to people who make good missions. Hall of Fame and Dev's Choice...work in theory.

What I also wish for, is more slots to people who actually use the Architect to play others' missions. You play stuff that's good, you get a better idea of what makes a good arc. You find something that's bad, you get some idea of what not to do. Too bad there's no way to implement this that wouldn't encourage farming.

Do people complain this much about having to buy new costume pieces or powers or anything? Yeah, I would like vet slots, but I'm willing to shell out the 6 or 10 bucks for a few extra slots. 20? Not really, but I really don't feel like I need eight total slots.

Seems to me I recall that all the revenue for the optional extras were supposed to be earmarked for going into development budget for more content: which is how we got VEATs when we did - funds from the Wedding Pack fueled that. If the cash from this funds something like that or really contributes to building CoX into something better, I'm alright with it.

I am starting to complain about having to buy new costume pieces, yes, since the free ones we are getting in i15 are lame, but the magic pack ones that we have to pay for are cool.

Also, there are about 50 zillion costume combinations you can make with existing, free costume pieces. There are a grand total of THREE arcs we can publish without paying.

I wasn't trying g to flaun t my largesse LOL. I was just giving my outlier of what I would be prepared to pay. I approve of the price they've decided on. Someones always going to have more money than you or me, EVA, and someones always going to have less than you or me.

At least this puts extra slots fir me on me rathercthsn on the whims of others.

Why on earth should I pay for more slots when I don't even have the available memory to make my own completely customized enemy group?

I guess we can look at it like this:
They have to be able to pay for server space somehow, for one.
It could have been more than what they're asking, for two.
Twenty bucks for five slots? Well, let's see. . . . I got the CoH DVD for $10 and got a $15 month free. I got GvE for $10 and got a $15 month free. $20 Architect got me a $15 month and a $10 booster. So, doing the math? Saved 5 already from the DVD, 5 from GvE, and 5 from the Architect. Add on $5, for a total of the $20 that can be put toward 5 slots, and NC Soft breaks even from me.

I think I can do that.

This. Until they make the maximum arc size bigger I am not really interested in more slots. I'll just use my 3rd slot as a temporary/rotating story for friends and assume I'll never have more than 2 put up for general consumption.

I hear that arcs are more efficient in i15. That works too but no matter how you slice it 100k is small even by IBM XT PC game standards back when I felt 20 meg would last me forever.

MrCaptainMan, thank you for your very warm reviews of my three arcs! I understand what you're saying about the final mission of Costume Contest; however, I'm pretty much out of space on that file due to having all the custom heroes. I'll see if I can tinker with it, though, and I'm currently in the process of tweaking the second mission of PENGUIN, as well. Stay tuned!

And to get myself back on topic, bigger file sizes would be nice, but this buying arcs is certainly a step in the right direction, allowing people more to work with. For one, it's very easy to get attached to GOOD ARCS and not want to delete them. So, more space is a plus. For two, if you can't get everything you like in one arc, you have an option. Put SOME of the whopping supa-custom-group in one arc, and introduce the players to the rest of it in a follow-up sequel arc! Just takes a lil' creativity.
