Heard an interesting review by the developer on the Neverwinter Nights podcast, checked out the website and they have CoH listed as one of the games they support for voice commands. Only $29.99 with a 7 day free trial to try.

I was wondering if anyone else had tried this, seems like it would be pretty useful to be able to do certain commands via voice.

Haven't heard of it before. Is that all it is? Voice controls? From the trial part, sounds like it has a subscription fee involved. Not worth it, IMO, no matter how low the sub fee is...

I yell at my computer all the time while playing the game. It would probably confuse the software.

Vista is buggy enough with just a mouse and keyboard.

The only reason I would see this being useful is for disabled individuals who wish to play. I doubt it was created just so that people can be even lazier.

This is my first time hearing about it myself but I'm sure we have at least a few players that have tried it. Of course the likelihood of those players also visiting the forums on a regular basis is low. So, I wouldn't expect an answer to this question to be forthcoming.

Ooh, knee-jerk Vista pot-shots. How clever.

Yeah it's $30 after the 7 day trial ends. I'm going to try it and see how I like it. I can see it being useful for stuff like inspirations, opening/closing windows, etc. Not strictly necessary, but it seems like a fun toy to play with.

The interview was on the NWN2 podcast and that game has layers upon layers of menus and tool bars so I can imagine that it would be a lot more useful in a game like that, but what the hey I'll give it a shot. It might be NECESSARY, most things in life aren't, but it might be fun!

I had never heard of this software but today I was randomly thinking about what voice commands I'd want in game if they ever put in the mechanic for voice commands. Just an odd coincidence I was thinking about it this morning and this thread shows up.

I wonder how it handles pronunciation differences. Accents can be extreme and even a common word like "melee" gets pronounced many different ways (may-lay, mee-lee, mee-lay, m'lay).

"Orobourous portal" ... "Orobourous portal" ... "Oh-ROB-or-us portal" ... "Ore-oh-BORE-us portal" ... "ORB-or-us portal"... "screw it" *click*

Well $30 is not that much for me, I don't drink or party, work 8 hours a day so it's not that much of a stretch for me. I could see maybe using it for emotes and inspirations at first, then maybe trying travel powers, things like that. From what I understand you tell it what word presses what keystroke. For me I have health, cab's and breakfrees on F1, F2, F3 so I would say "HEALTH" and the software would "press" F1 and so on.

The software has very good reviews, one of the reviewers said that they tried it, worked fine, then someone else in the office with a british accent tried it and it worked fine.

Eh, I paid $10 for the Cyborg pack, if I'd gotten all of the packs that came out so far, I'd have spent, what, $40? And this is something that has templates for several of the games I play (HL2, NWN2, CoX, Call of Duty, etc).

But at this point it's moot, I needed to have 200mb free on the C drive, and I've only got about 80. I was going to do some house cleaning anyway, I want to try Windows 7 and it needs 16gb.

True dat I've got a 160gb drive but I've gotten into the habit of making a "C:" and a "D:" after 1 too many times of having to reinstall Windows and losing everything. I made a 31gb partition for the OS and keep everything else (games, music, photos, etc) on the D: drive. Keeps me from losing all my data in the event of a crash.

In this case I just need to see if any docs (me) or photos (wife), or anything else is important (both of us) is on the C: drive. Copy over to D: where all of my drivers, programs to reinstall, etc are, Format C: and reinstall. Usually takes less than an hour.

I *AM* looking at getting one of those 1TB external drives pretty soon, then I could backup data from BOTH computers to it.

Has anyone had any success using this?

I dont know about this specific software but most voice software has to be trained to understand the way the user speaks.

Badging in a PvP zone?

If you are treasure hunting on a battlefield wearing an enemy uniform, there is a high probability that you will be attacked.

This is an enjoy-the-ride game. "50" is only a number, not the goal of the game. - Noxilicious

Pretty much. When I QA'd Dragon Naturally Speaking, it took a good two hours to train it. It provided Chapters from several books for you to read. The more you ran it, the quicker and more precise it was at picking up what you said. Your own regional dialect/inflections were not a concern.

Were you able to use Dragon with City of Heroes?

Thanks.

It seems like you're not alone. No one seems to be using any voice recognition software with CoH (even as I search Google)
