ok ok, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist, but I completely agree with Manoa. After the i13 PvP Changes, I heard about the dev's and players having a vent/skype conference. Why couldn't we have something like that?

[/ QUOTE ]

Thing is, I don't even think the communication was all that open with the I13 changes. During the beta process, the PvP community was very vocal against the changes that were going to be implemented...but yet the changes were pushed through anyway. A vent/skype conference would have not been necessary had the feedback that the developers asked for from the players for was taken to heart.

There's just too much stuff that's been pushed through since HeroCon that goes against player feedback and is infuriating and dividing our community. And the redname response (if any) is often too little too late. Much of this growing customer dissatisfaction could have been prevented in the first place had the lines of communication not been severed and the developers heeded the community's feedback. It's my hope that things might be able to be mended if the developers are allowed to reopen the lines of communication...

Same. For me, it has always been about the elements of the game that I find interesting & fun and sharing that gaming experience with the good people I team with.

Whether the experience has been running through content 1-50 on both sides many times, a painfully long Shadow Shard TF, a PL, a farm, reading the in-game channels and having a chuckle or just standing around chatting with friends etc. - it's been a fun time.

I joined my first (and only) MMO - CoH shortly after launch and took a break before CoV release. I remember leaving a City of Heroes. My curiosity drew me back to try City of Villains but I returned to what felt like (to me) a Suburb of Heroes/Villains. Great in-game friends from all parts of the world kept me here in lieu of the bustling zones I left.

Regarding recent developments: I do not agree with the way situations have been handled in the game as of late (e.g. disregarding player feedback on PvP, MA punishments). Seemingly random temporary account bans and character deletions may be the perogative of the Devs and their GM's, but voting with my wallet is mine and I have chosen to also unsubscribe my account with several of my close friends.

I agree with Pum's very well written post however I don't have much faith in improvement on the part of the Devs - and to be blunt, I'd rather join my friends in another community. PS Pum - going to miss those great TF's you run!

The only reason I log into this game at all now is to talk with friends. My friends (you know who you are) have made this game the most enjoyable gaming experience of my gaming career. If it wasn't for all of you I would have unsubscribed long ago. While I understand the pain associated with friends parting ways, I know that if we really want to continue a friendship outside of this game; it's more than possible. Skype, Teamspeak, Ventrillo, Yahoo and MSN messenger, just to name a few - Im on all of these. If you want my details, all you have to do is PM me.

Unfortunately, I wont re-subscribing any of my accounts. The only good news for my friends is that my main account has been pre-paid and doesn't run out for quite some time. As Ive stated in previous (possibly deleted) posts:

I cannot believe wtf is going on here. The dev's are temp banning people and deleting their toons on a whim. We cant even openly discuss the matter 'coz its against the forum rules. Posts are being deleted. Threads are being locked or deleted.

Kinda makes me happy that Ive unsubscribed all of my accounts. [u]NCSoft will never get another cent out of me.[u]

I have to agree with this. Heck I wouldn't even go so far as Positron saying we can play however we like. I just want an apology for the really poor way this whole thing was handled.

As someone has said before, I don't begrudge the devs for what they did so much as how they did it. Positron screwed up.

I don't know what has changed, I don't know if there is pressure from the studio to make good on the massive investment that was made, or if its pressure from training all new staff, but something is different and wrong. There used to be a time when the Devs were very upfront about what was going on and why, things plodded along slowly but player feedback was taken into consideration and there was a much stronger sense of connection with the game. Now things seem to be moving faster, but without any consideration for what we the players want. It feels like instead of being seen as members of the community, members of a game that we all have a passion for, we are just numbers to them, simply a bottom line that has to be improved to maximize net profit and yield a higher return on investment.

This is a 5 year old game. The ol' girl is showing her age, she's been pushed to the max as far as whats allowed with the engine and no matter how many bells and whistles are added, they are all the same bells and whistles. MA was the new hotness, but it was handled so horribly that some people refuse to touch it. The one thing this game had was a fantastic community that was bolstered heavily by the interaction with the developers. People felt invested in the game since they felt they could always get a hold of a developer, always talk with one. I just don't feel that anymore.

The last several issues have been dissapointing, not because of content, not because of changes made, but because of how they were handled, how distant the game has felt from the community.

My account is due to expire on the 16th, I may or may not renew. It may be time for a break. I still love the game, I still love the community, but I just cant financially support a team of developers that I just don't care about anymore. Its one thing to make mistakes, we are all human, we all make mistakes. Its another thing though to not admit fault for making bad decisions. It shouldn't take a week or two to admit a mistake.

Hmmm...part of me is at odds with what is happening with all the great people here feeling left out in the cold. I do feel a certain responsibility that I have fanned the flames, however discreetly, or mayhap not so discreetly. I feel it was right to bring up the fact that so much wrong was done (and I still do!), but the price was paid in blood.

The big question for me is how to best go about moving forward? I know a significant portion of you have more than one reason for leaving or lapsing from CoH, and it's not only just because of this one incident. Some of the diaspora are trying to build settlements in other games.

I think that maybe the devs are giving the forums a little slack now but are not going to do much else. Maybe they're laying low and hoping that things will blow over. New shinies in i15 and i16 are on the way to defuse and diffuse much of the criticism from the fiasco the bans created.

If they're right, then the rest of the community won't really notice or care. If that happens, maybe I'll end up like this guy.

The easy thing to do would be to give in, or unsubscribe and wash my hands of it. The hard part would be to keep on agitating and keep the devs honest.

If nothing changes, then the next time there's a screw up things just happen all over again, and perhaps the people that shrugged it off this time won't be so patient. Maybe they'll quit. Maybe there is a life cycle to an MMO player, and this is just part of the ending of that cycle, and new players do simply appear to fill the void. It would be sad to presume that that is the case, and we're no better or worse than any other community, and this is simply 'just another MMO.' If the devs feel that way, then I would guess it would be a fait accompli, and to push for a better and more enlightened community, MMO and dev team would be a Sisyphean task.

Perhaps RP has infected all the devs for the coming issues and 'teh big sekrit' is that Positron has been replaced by Anti-Matter.

PS. I just had a vision about me and Posi going to meet for a little heart to heart.

In brief, it seems to me that wit the acquisition, relocation, and expansion, the culture of the studio has changed, and not for the better.

Not to excuse any mishandlings or absolve anyone, but nothing says that game developers have to be fully rational and handle everything perfectly. For proof, consider that chick that made Doom. They're not saints or machines and are affected by stress and compications that are incidental or wholly unrelated to the game itself. Who knows, maybe a health issue has cast a pall over the studio staff, maybe a breakup, maybe a trial, maybe they accidentally hired an [censored] that has made life unbearable--i've seen something that simple utterly ruin otherwise excellent companies in other industries.

Then again, maybe it's just an improbably potent streak of bad developing decision making and bad public relations decision making in response.

I'm still pissed over how things were handled, but I'm not ready to hang up my superhero tights . . .yet.

I did cancel my second account as a protest. If they weren't willing to listen to me complain on the boards, then maybe they would notice a loss of subscriptions.

I'm not even sure what the remedy should be. What do we want them to do? The mistakenly erased characters have been restored with an apology and [WillSmith] a lil somthin somthin [/WillSmith].

They aren't going to apologize to the folks they believe were exploiting the system, nor do I think they should. I do think that Positron's angry post was a bit too stern. And I do think that banning AND deleting was a bit too much. But you don't apologize to the lawbreaker for getting too stiff of a sentence.

I feel that I should get an apology, but honestly and objectively, I don't deserve one. The worst thing that happened to me was a couple of my posts were deleted.

Maybe it's not so much an apology as a statement of recognition that they have made mistakes, they have heard our pleas and will be less punitive in the future and NEVER, EVER, run a ban script again.
