Whatever happened to on-line advertisements?
Few threads on this already. It apparently looks like it wasn't enticing enough to the advertisers, or the firm just didn't get the big names for it.
And as for other NC games, or going rogue... that would just be weird. Especially the second. Yeah, it talks to the player, but...
Ever see "The truman show?" Where essentially everyone but Jim Carey's character knows it's a TV show? Now imagine his character looking up and seeing... an advertisement for the next season of The Truman Show.
That said, supposedly they'd have spots for player made advertisements or such - which I also haven't seen.
... I could see ads for MA arcs, like we see movie billboards everywhere...
... then again, no, bad idea.

they just didnt take off. and the economy in general is not in a forgiving mood. It is sad, if bigger name gaming, comics, and movies had been able to advertise here, i think they would have reached a receptive market. I mean really, an athletics shoe and a niche-market skateboarding customized gadget? in a game with no skateboards even? they never quite struck me as a good fit, but most likely they were a victim of the larger economy and the idea just not bringing in enough sales to justify the cash.
In a slightly related note...was watching a NBA playoff game at a bar the other night....the halftime scoreboard report was brought to me courtesy of WoW.

I'm not disappointed with the way in-game ads haven't taken off. Please see my sig.

I did, but was distracted by you advertising your MA arcs underneath.

Yup... saw your sig. However, you are still advertising your ARCs. So capitalism does have its advantages

Hey, can I buy an in-game ad and target it per-server? I'd pay for an SG recruitment ad. 8)
The billboards aren't server-specific, no.

I seem to remember in Earth and Beyond they would have player contests to create ads for the billboards in the game. Maybe instead of ads for revenue they could do some player creations instead. Maybe have special perks rewarded to winners, maybe a free 30 day jetpack or a costume unlock of their choice.

I remember seeing one advertisement several months ago. However, since then, I see nothing even though I have set adverts ON. Perhaps the economy is just so bad that no one is ready to advertise inside a game? Why don't we see adverts for Going Rogue? Or other NC Soft games? Just curious ;-)
