Am I the only one who remembers this?

The devs stated that their intended goal was to not go two consecutive issues without new enhancements and likewise not go two consecutive issues without new proliferation. Please note the words "intended goal".

[/ QUOTE ]
That does sounds like the quote that I have been trying to find. Yes I know it is not a promise, my use of the word "promise" was not in reference to a dev clearly stating "We promise that we will..."

It was my oversight that the statement "the promised Enhancements" would be interpreted as the "end all, be all, must reply based off of" three word stretch from the middle of the OP. I apologize for bothering all of you out there who were burdened with reiterating the fact that the last several people who wanted to sight the single word "promise" didn't quiet cover my gross error nearly well enough. The word was used figuretively in much the same way as one might say "the dog sat eagerly wagging his tail at the promise of a treat presented by the very bone which dangled from between his masters fingers" or "our ancestors moved to this great land dreaming of it's promise of wide open spaces and freedom for all." I promise you that the person in the latter was not the recipient of a letter written personally by the continent of North America that said "I promise you'll come here and find..."

On the other hand, thank you very much to those who responded with what they remembered. That and especially those who clarrified that it was stated as an intended goal helps tremendously. In regards to the matter of what powers to proliferate: I agree that there really aren't that many to be done, but there are still several that would be really awesome and likely not too dificult to balance. Personally I like Blackavaar's and Suzianne's suggestions!

(Note: I will not be editing anything out of the OP because if I did, the responses that are nothing but citing my "promise" screw up wouldn't make any sense. This post is however meant to acknowledge that I am well informed of my foolish mishap.)

given that there are not very many powersets left to proliferate.

What about Electric Melee and Electric Armor for Tanks? What about Archery and Trick Arrows for Corruptors? What about Illusion Control for Dominators? There's really a lot more to proliferate still.

Fire Blast for Defenders...

Secondary: Ice Armor, Invulnerability, Shield Defense

Any "promise" made by a red name about future content in the game should be assumed to have a big ol' astrisk next to it saying "Not a guarentee, but an intended goal. All future changes are uncertain until after actually in the live servers, and can even then still be removed with no notice at their will." Because of this, the red names RARELY, if ever, actually "promise" to add anything to the game. I can't think of any time that I've seen it off the top of my head.

Remember issue 13 & 14 were originally one issue so as far as the number of issues since the last one, it should be taken as really one issue from point of view from their long-term planning. The last (and first) proliferation happened in issue 12. From the sounds of the description of issue 15 from the red names, I would be very surprised to see any in it. So we're looking at issue 16 as the next best chance of getting any IF we get any. So that's 2 issues without it. Enhancements, we've gotten new sets in issues 13 and 14.

Don't know what to tell you except be patient. Its not like the devs haven't been busy adding to the game and we haven't gotten anything new lately. We've gotten 2 new powersets (13), the mission architect (14), day jobs (13), new game client platform (Mac Edition), new costumes and emotes are added (Valkyrie, Cyborg, and Magic Boosters) and on the way (15), and a new expansion pack (Going Rogue) with likely more powersets and side switching(view the astrisk comment above) in the pipeline coming our way. Just because it's not part of a free expansion doesn't mean it doesn't take time to make, and lets face it, they are a business trying to make money after all. They've been very busy the last year (issue 12 went out May 20, 2008, almost exactly a year ago) with just all of that added to the game and in progress and thats just what we know about.

I'm sure more proliferation is on its way, but we're just gonna have to wait for it. Until then, I'm sure there are some powerset configurations and some content already in game that you haven't tried and gotten to 50 yet. Give one of those a whirl.

Fair enough. They do have a lot of potentials to port. (Although I'd consider a few of the ones you listed as bad ideas. Ice Melee for Brutes and Bladed Assault for Blasters are likely to be highly underpowered, for instance. Energy Melee for scraps is likely to be overpowered. The key powers of Ice Armor and Invuln, for stalkers, would be self-defeating. Scrapper Mace would be very similar to "Broadsword, only smashing." )

Anyway,I agree that I'm not starving for power combos and I don't think anyone else is either.

Actually, I think they expect the torches and pitchforks regardless at this point.

I keep trying to find the pitchfork emote

We already have torches and protest signs, so we could certainly put together an unruly mob.

I want claws for Brutes. Which is not on the list so I guess it's a balance issue.

Even if said comments where made one should understand that no comment ever made by a developer is every a guarantee even if it contains the phrase, "This is absolutely a guarantee..."

Live with it.

That said, Issues 13 and 14 are but a single issue split in two and not two whole issues.

[/ QUOTE ]

While I'm not "starving for power combos," the concept of Proliferation got my creative juices flowing. I have a number of character concepts waiting for their powersets to become available.

Mane Event was a Inv / SS Tanker that I shelved when Proliferation started. She would much rather have either SR / or be an SS / SR Scrapper. I have since leveled another Inv / SS Tanker to the mid 20s.

Psychodomina is a Mind / Psi Dominator that I have shelved thanks to Pain Domination. She will be rerolled as a Psychic Blast / Pain Corruptor as soon as she is able.

Rotten Johnny is a Thugs / Poison Mastermind who is a punk rocker and political agitator. Sonic Resonance is right up his alley.

I have a Thermal / Fire waiting in the wings, along with a Ice / Cold Controller, a Claws / Inv Brute, an Elec / Elec Scrapper, and Elec / Elec Tanker, and many others waiting to be born. The only limits being my considerable imagination and the number of character slots I have available.

New story arcs coming soon (ARC IDs will be aded when I finish the arc):
So, you want to join the Hellions? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)
Sparks & Steel (level 5-20 Heroic arc)
and
So you want to join the Skulls? (level 1-14 Villainous arc)

Actually, no. I left that off mistakenly. I edited to add it to my list. I can't think of any really serious balance issues that would come up for a Brute with Claws. Of course the devs might be able to think of things I cannot.

As for Ice Melee for Brutes, Ice Armor and Invulnerability for Stalkers and Bladed Assault for Blasters, etc., I'm sure the devs could figure out a way to remove or alter powers that would be detrimental or overpowering to the ATs in question when it really comes down to it.

Bluethorn,
Please note the post made 12 hours and 14 minutes before your OP response; that one's for you.

As for the rest of your reply, I really do agree. If anything, I would have to say that I'm just hoping to inspire the release of at least a few more Proliferations sometime soon. Personally, I'm looking forward to the content they are adding, but the game for me is still more about the characters. It is after all City of HEROES/City of VILLAINS and not City of PARAGON/City of ROGUE ISLES. This MMO's FOUNDING STAPLE is character diversity and customization. The Devs have released several new costume pieces and power sets that are absolutely AWESOME (grinning wide eyed at Pain Dom) and there lingers the recently reignited hope of a couple others that are long awaited (dual pistols and more MM pets), but that still leaves a LOT of already prepared power sets ripe for the Proliferating that the fan base have expressed much eager anticipation of. I'm sure there is a LOT more work than I could even guess involved in building a brand new power set and tailoring it to each Arch Type it is appropriate for. Where it comes to Proliferating power sets on the other hand, it should be significantly less difficult to retailor a couple per Issue or so to fit the one or two appropriate Archtypes.

NOTE: And before the "teh game not all abt U" bandwagon forms, notice that I said "for me" as in FOR ME PERSONALLY WHILE NOT DISCOUNTING THAT OTHER'S GAMEPLAY WILL VARY.

Asteroid, not comet. Comets are generally considered frozen balls of ice, gasses, and minor other debris around a core, usually on a very wide orbit around a star (if they haven't been knocked out of the system by the gravity of that star or an associated planet.)

Asteroids, which can also be referred to as planetoids or even minor (as opposed to dwarf) planets, are generally more rocky, yet smaller than a planet (or dwarf planet.) Generally not rounded by their own gravity, nor do they have any sort of atmosphere (which comets, approaching a star, will temporarily have) or (known) tectonics. Despite the inclusion of "planet" in their name, they do not have the gravitational influence to clear their own orbit.

This also did not refer to the dropping of a classic arcade game on Paragon Studios. Which they may appreciate more, if it survived.

... The more you know.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good stuff! Thank you for taking the time to explain the difference. That's a tidy response. I actually did know, and at the time of my posting, I was kinda wondering if anyone was going to point out that I was less than precise in my comparisons.
