Best (PvP) build for a dominator?
Fire/Elec
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
Due to... sheer damage numbers, I presume?
Pretty much. Doms are basically blasters in post-I13 PvP. So the set with the most damage is the best, just like blasters.
At sirens call level, I'd put mind way ahead of fire though. But with the imps out, fire is capable is a lot more damage.
Makes sense to me. Of course, with blasters, secondary effects used to matter too (god old ice blasters), but I take it that the nerfs to debuffs have more or less killed that as well.
yes, except sonic blasters do well because of DR and suppression. In no DR/suppression matches.. blasters are pretty useless.
Fire/Elec it is! I would ahve thoguht there'd be some use for /psi for Drain Psyche and telekinetic Thrust. Shows what I know.
/psi shines in the hands of great players. It poses more complex problems than electric, however electric just kills things faster so it is better.
Even the best mind/psi I have ever seen lost to a good mind/electric pre-i13

I'd probably go Mind over Fire if I were you. Mind gets Levitate, a soon-to-be-buffed Confuse and you can slot the placate proc in Mesmerize. Sure, Fire/Elec will probably do more damage, but Mind/Elec does plenty of damage with a crapload of annoying mezzes to boot.

[/ QUOTE ]Aint that the truth!! I fought a tank who sat there and let my fire blaster get of two chains before he even swung back in the arena and his hp barely moved.
The funny thing is, even though you seem like one of the whiners that got the changes made in the first place, you're probably still bad..------Macskull on Crop_of_shaolin

/Fire WOULD probably fit the character theme better, but doesn't /Electric deliver higher single-target damage, while /fire is a better AoE monster?
not really - all of your good fire atks are single target and you get fiery embrece for 85%% dmg on fire attacks and 68% on your other attacks - doms are getting a dmg buff too and the confuse buff should make mind/ a good primary (the placate proc in mes being an awesome addition.
Jimmay can you explain the confuse buff? I keep hearing about it.
Also, do you know how much they're increasing dom damage by? They already seem to do blaster level damage (not sonic blaster level, but more like other sets) from what I've seen.
Currently the Dom damage mods outside of Domination are 0.75 melee/0.65 ranged. Castle's proposed mods are 1.05 melee/0.95 ranged.
The "confuse buff" isn't so much a buff as it is a standardization of animation times between Deceive from Illusion and Confuse from Mind (they're identical powers except Mind's version has an animation pause at the end that shouldn't be there).

Fire clearly has better ranged damage, granted, but Havoc Punch and Charged brawl (and thunder Strike, for that matter) do much more damage than anything fire can manage, plus it has Voltaic Sentinel. Of course, that does have the notable disadvantage of requiring you to be in melee range with much more survivable architypes.
There's roughly a 15 point damage difference at base between Havoc Punch/Charged Brawl and Fire Blast/Blaze. That's before factoring in Fiery Embrace. The amount of mitigation one gains from not having to get in melee with a number of AT's is priceless, however.
Not to say that Fire is better than Elec, both have their good points, but that the strict damage between the two shouldn't be the only thing you look at.
"the reason there are so many sarcastic pvpers is we already had a better version of pvp taken away from us to appease bad players. Back then we chuckled at how bad players came here and whined. If we knew that was the actual voice devs would listen to instead of informed, educated players we probably would have been bigger dicks back then." -ConFlict
The difference is higher than 15 once youf actor in a 95-99% boost from slotting, plus the boost from domination. Still your point is well taken. Ive never been much for melee, as a general thing.
The main advantage that keeps me coming back to /Electric is the added damage of Voltaic Sentinal. I wonder if thsoe who ahve actually ahd a chance to use ti in PvP could comment on how effective it is, because it seems like it would add a great deal of damage.
This sucks, i just deleted my fire/elec.

Wow. So I guess doms will be able to just kill anything they want at will? Because that sounds like a pretty huge buff.

Eh, no more-so than Blasters. Remember Blaster "controls" are darn near as powerful as Dominator "controls" with the new pvp rules...so yea...the Dominator is sorta becoming the CoV Blaster, which I'm fine with personally (especially in pve) as Vills have needed a "good" ranged damage AT for awhile now (Corrs sorta fit the bill there if they get ALL their debuffs/buffs laid down and an enemy below 50% HP...but that's alot of work to ramp up your damage).

You say that like its bad! *le grin*
On another note, after a loooong night of number crunching, Ive decided to give Electricity a Whirl and see how I enjoy it.
On another still another note than that, does it seem odd to anyone that Kick does about the same damage as Incinerate or Havoc Punch, and more than charged brawl with a recharge time of only 3 seconds? On a related note, I notice that it does /not/ say "+8 rage on self" like dominator attacks - do I take it that it does NOT build domination?

iirc alot of pool powers outdamage dom powers. look at flurry vs thunderstrike for activation, end usage, and recharge time too.
not knockin /elec, just sayin.
...Wow! Just... wow! Good tip! I suppose its meant to be a boon to people who've chosen sub-optimal sets that dont HAVE big damage attacks in them. *le shrug* It certainly DOES make /fire appear more attractive by way of comparison, though.
I am tempted to say either Mind/ or Fire/, and either /psi for or /elec, but I really have comparatively little experince building dominators, and Im curious to know what the curretn flavour of the month is for PvP.
