Why is Crow not a valid pet name?

Weird, I have a robot MM with a pet named Crow. I tried to take a screenshot, but I don't know how to do that so that all my names and trays and whatnot show up along with it.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe it wasn't always invalid.

And my first thought was Crow T Robot.

I named one of my robots that. Crow is off-limits but Crow T. isn't!

[/ QUOTE ]

It would be most hypocritical if you couldn't use Crow T, since Dr. Forrester is a mad scientist NPC in Grandville.

My thugs are named after the cast of Home Improvement.

My zombies are named after fictional characters and nicknames from Homestar Runner cartoons.

Not really - as the people in control, they have more leeway. And they know exactly what will be done with characters they create/name.

My necro MM's pets are Pride, Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, Wrath, and Greed.

No, she's not missing one.

What annoyed/confused me that it wouldn't let me name a pet "Hunter" - Is it because it's in "Void Hunter" or something?

Yeah, the pet name restrictions are incredibly random. It wouldn't let me use Hercules at one point.

I'm guessing that Disney might believe Hercules is their imaginary property.

Heh, this reminds me of the King Kong/Donkey Kong thing I read about. Apparently, in order to use King Kong, Universal argued in court that it was public domain and won. At a later date, when Nintendo came up with Donkey Kong, Universal tried to sue them. In court, nothing happened, because they were like "Didn't you argue that you'd get to use it because it was in public domain, and now you're trying to keep other people from using it?" Or, for a direct quote, "Universal knew that it did not have trademark rights to King Kong, yet it proceeded to broadly assert such rights anyway."

Wikipedia article about it here.

Marvel and DC would both argue that they own it as well.

I realize it's probably just a case of "better safe than sorry", but it seems ludicrous to me.

I tried naming my ninjas after various anime characters. Asuma (Naruto), Jubei (ninja Scroll), Genma (ninja scroll), Kakashi (naruto), and I think the other one is Ichigo (bleach). Never had a problem with any of those names, but tried Naruto, Sasuke, and other more popular ones, only to be in a dice-free zone.....I dunno.....
