give it a try, if u dont like u can pick a different one.
thats what test is for unlimited respecs.
Lrm very very nice if you have a crashing nuke set. If you have AR or Arch don't bother.
Body Armor, autopower non supressing otherwise very blah.
Surveilance very nice for EB or better also good to look under the hood.
Sleep grenade: Place holder for a purple sleep set
Freeze ray: very nice if you have no controls in your sets.
it works fairly well for assisting you in combat. Unlike other APPS, however, it doesn't offer much of anything defense wise.
LRM rocket, good attack but on one long timer.
Marginally useful sleep AoE
Decent passive armor
Good hold power
Great surveillance

Wow thanks all for the advice, they all seem like great powers. Hold is great for taking someone out of the fight, AoE sleep great opener, Body Armor some passive resistance, survallence (I have on my Bane I already know), and the AoE Rocket.
Which one would be the least useful since I can only choose 4.

That depends on your Primary and Secondary. If you are a Sonic/Energy then Sleep Grenade is pretty pointless.
If you are an Ice/* then Cryo Freeze won't do you much good.

Love: Body Armor, freeze ray (PEW!)
Like: LRM, Sleep Grenade.
No experience with Surveillence, but looks like it should be pretty good.
Skipping one is hard. That is why I haven't respecced since Surveillence was added. Dunno what to get rid of.

I could see the Sonic one since sleep doesn't stack, but with Ice/ wouldn't that give you three holds, is that too much for a Blaster?
Thank you

How do these powers actually animate? Do they use the same sort of guns as AR (aside from Body Armor, of course)?

The sleep, hold, and LRM rocket all use the rifle. Armor is an armor, and Surveillance is just a nifty animation with a mini wrist computer that shoots out a big targeting/scanning effect.

Well actually sleep does stack if the second application doesn't do damage. That's why I like my Sonic/Ice. The blaster version of Frozen Aura does no damage and that allows a sonic/ice to stack up a mag 5 sleep on a boss.
As far as 3 holds for a blaster goes....
The blaster's Job is to kill things quickly. If you take a 10 second window and use all 3 holds the cast time from those 3 powers has used 5.37 seconds which means that you are spending most of your time holding stuff and aren't doing much damage.
Ice is also noted for a lack of AoE which you can really only mitigate by going Ice/MM.

Having lots of holds on a blaster is nice when you're up against groups with problem lieutenants (controllers tend to focus on AoE control on teams, I've noticed), but usually two is plenty (because it lets you hold PPs to keep them from godmoding).
Anyway, my assault rifle/fire blaster thinks:
Sleep Grenade: Ugh, this sucks.
Cryo Freeze: Whhhhhy doesn't this stack with beanbag? Isn't this supposed to be the set to complement AR?
Body Armor: Did I forget to turn on my toggle? Oh wait.
LRM: Heehee, this is a lot of fun, especially with full auto. Looong recharge though.
Surveillance: Not especially noticeable, but peeking at stuff is nice.
I skipped Cryo Freeze Ray because of the not-stacking issue, but I think I'm going to swap out the sleep grenade instead because it's really useless. Or maybe body armor, since it's really pretty lame.

It's really easy to stack Cryo Freeze Ray using just SOs. You can get almost triple the duration of the cast+rech time with out any outside buffs or global bonuses.

I found this video of the LRM on youtube. It's not the one I was looking for but you can see how it works.
I have munitions on my AR/Dev blaster. I skipped sleep grenade and have never used it. It seemed a waste with all the AOEs I have so I didn't take it.
The freeze ray is nice, I use it frequently. I don't have beanbag, so CFR is very useful for taking problem enemies out of the fight, and for holding enemies for ignite. I also use it to help stack holds when on a team.
Body armour is very little resist, but it's auto so it doesn't cost any endurance, and it's a good place for the special IOs. Mine has the Steadfast defense IO, and the two status resistance IOs. I decided not to slot for resist since fully slotted it only adds I think maybe 5%. The difference between just the steadfast and ED capped resist is only about 3%.
LRM is fun and it does good damage, but I don't use it much. Mostly because I have so many other attacks that I just forget about it. I would say try it yourself and see if you like it. Then decide if it's worth keeping.
I have Body Armor, Surveillance, and LRM on my Sonic/Devices/Munitions.
LRM is fun, I used it to pull the AVs in a STF recently, they are far enough apart that it only hits one at a time.
Surveillance is used to add even more -res, which my primary already does.
Body Armor.....is a place for a Steadfast Res/Def IO

LRM is great fun. In fact it's the one power that makes getting the epic pool worthwhile.
Compared to the other resist damage powers found in the rest of the epic pools, Body Armor seems to be slightly inferior. The only advantage I see is that it's always in effect and can never be deactivated.
Cryofreeze is a good single-target hold. Not much to be said about it.
Surveillance is a decent debuffer, and has a pretty nice effect to boot.
Sleep Grenade seems redundant since the point of playing a Blaster is to kill everything in sight in the quickest time possible. However if I'm not wrong it has some sort of minor AoE healing effect.

If you check out mids you can make your own builds, see what secondary effects your powers have, all sorts of cool stuff! Anyway, no, smoke grenade does not have an AoE healing effect, just -perception -toHit, which helps blasters for pre-aggro setup of powers, so this can be kind of helpful.
I've never leveled a /devices blaster, but I think I might try one sometime soon.

...I am probably not representative of the majority, but this is really the thing that makes it superior to all of the others. The times when you most need the resistance are the times when you've been incapacitated by a status effect. During those times, the the other epic pools' toggles provide no benefit, when they would be the most valuable. I'd rather have a def/res toggle that was *only* on when I was under a status effect versus the other way around.

Yes, it gives you three holds, and no that isn't too much. It gives you the ability to hold a boss and a minion (or two bosses with the right slotting and some expertise) while you kill everything else.
It doesn't help much with a 'blasterlike' style of play, but it is a godsend for those who prefer a more 'blastroller' style.

My AR/En/Mun Blaster has Body Armor, Freeze Ray, LRM Rocket, and Surveillance. Sleep Grenade underperforms for an ancillary power, but they all synergize fantastically with Range Boost from Energy Manipulation. LRM I have slotted with three Dmg/Rng HOs, two Acc IOs, and a Rech IO; unfortunately, since the only set with a Dmg/Rch IO in it is Ragnarok, I can't improve the power's performance without sacking the range, and I like having one attack for which the laughable claim that "Range is a Blaster's defense" is mostly true when range-boosted -- the base range as slotted is 234 feet, 373 feet with Range Boost, but there are some mobs that can still hit me at that range limit.
With LRM slotted the way I have it, I can stand next to Imperious in Cimerora, hit Boost Range, Build Up, LRM Rocket, and hit the cluster of Cimeroran Traitors that spawn occasionally between the cliff wall and the insula to the west of the staircase that leads down from where Imperious stands; if that doesn't wax them outright, I hit the first one coming up the stairs with Snipe, the second with Slug, and the third with Burst.

Ummm... You are aware that Beanbag is a Disorient, while Cryo Freeze Ray is a Hold, aren't you? Expecting them to stack is like a Controller expecting their Immobilizes to stack with their Holds. Different kind of mez entirely.
Surveillance makes a noticeable difference in how hard attacks hit; -14% to Resistance and Defense is nothing to sneeze at.

You make very valid points. To me Body Armor seems inferior in the sense that the base resistance it provides for Smashing and Lethal damage is lower than the resistance toggles found in the other pool. Also, Electric Armor gives not only Smashing and Lethal resist, but Energy as well. Fire Armor (accurate name?) is the same but instead of Energy it gives Fire resist.
Being mezzed and having your toggles deactivated is a problem. To get around that I have Hover (it stays active during mezzes) to avoid getting pounded by melee and IO sets that give stacked range defense when still under fire.

Well range is definately a good defense, that is IF you can stay at range and out of reach of a strong melee'ers attack. That must be why alot of us blasters love Hover And getting hit by ranged attacks is not as severe as getting hit in melee, especially when those attacks have stuns. (which leads to a very quick and painful faceplant).

Speaking as someone who's just looked over the numbers, not actually used the power I have to think Body Armor is really too little to make any real difference in your survivability. It's a place to toss a set bonus and really nothing more... it isn't going to mitigate enough damage to have any visible effect. Without another source of resistance to stack it with it's just not enough to matter on it's own.
Personally I've found Temp Invuln for blasters to actually be marginal in the benefit it offers and it's more than twice as effective. More often than not I don't even bother with it.
COH has just been murdered by NCSoft. http://www.change.org/petitions/ncso...city-of-heroes
I am looking at this and just wanted to know if anyone had any insight on this APP for Blasters (PvE wise). It looks like it has a pretty good bit of mitigation plus a ranged crashless Nuke. I have never played with it and would just like to know how it is in PvE as APP.
Thank you.
