Get rid of grace period for delinquent base upkeep

...and just increase the amount of time before upkeep is due by another two weeks. Right now, nothing bad happens if you wait two weeks after your rent is supposedly due, and doing so lengthens the amount of time until your next billing cycle, so most savvy players won't pay their rent until 2 weeks after they were "supposed" to. This is a QoL change so that we don't have to log in, see that "Your SG owes money by X date" and have to think, "Okay, when do I REALLY need to pay the rent?"

Issue 16 made me feel like this.

Currently...

If your base rent isn't paid people can't access teleporters. I presume storage is the same.

Sure. Why not, considering that it's usually less than what, ONE mission worth of Prestige and a trip to a moderately out-of-the-way NPC?
I'm lucky. My SG-mate pays the rent, and I do the base crafting/modifying.

It's small enough to the point where it stands firmly as an annoyance, and the developers clinging to the idea that luxuries are worth taxing. At the very least, the personal Vault should have the rent cost removed.

Yes to auto pay for base upkeep.

Why does one have to take the time to pay?

Do the Devs not realize in the real world a person can set a variety of bills to withdraw from a checking account automatically?

So I don't have an opinion on the thread topic but I would be happy with base upkeep with an option for auto pay.

It is:
<ul type="square">[*] Annoying.[*] So small as to be an irritation.[*] Buggy.[*] Does not accurately charge every 4 weeks. If you pay when you get a notice you will get another in 2 weeks.[*] No penalty for late payment. So some groups are being charged three times as much as other groups for the same "service".[*] Causes untold amount of /petitions wasting GM time to fix the "locked base, but can't pay rent" issue.[*] Can be avoided by not including certain objects in the base.[/list]These are the issues I can name within 5 minutes of seeing your post. I could go on, but I want to get a bit of play time in.

Mark the passage of time: Look at character join dates. No one that I know can remember how many rent payments you make, so there is this nice invention you might have heard about, it is called a calendar.

I fail to see how upkeep encourages participation...

No one I knew needed rent/upkeep to use bases. A lot of people I know had the old rent free plot and enjoyed their bases.

Bingo. And like you said, as long as you don't touch storage items, you don't pay any rent anyway.

Of course, like I said, it's not even really rent, it's a tax on luxuries. And not particularly amazing ones at that.

I especially disliked being folded into the "have to pay rent" group without any real warning. I did, in fact, enjoy my rent-free 8x8, especially because it was 100% finished.
