ZATANNA in 3D (Poser art)

I've been working on this one for almost 2 weeks. Sometimes, you just gotta call a piece done and step away or 'd end up tweaking it for another week. It's mostly Poser, but I completely repainted the face because Poser faces are so lifeless.

Yeah Yeah... it's not COH. But it's a superhero, so hopefully that counts =)

Oh, and I've started on some Marvel pieces, so I'll be bouncing back and forth more.

Amazing work, Doug. Your pieces always blow my mind

It's really good. The only thing I don't like about it is how clean it is, but that's totally an artifact of being Poser art, I think. The face is great.

(I mean clean in the sense of orderly and perfect, with no little flaws and bumps like you get from more hand-drawn stuff.)

Interestingly, I think Zatanna is one of the more 'clean' characters in the DC universe. She always seems to have things under control, with perfect hair and a classy composure.

But I see what you mean.

Right, it's not so much the moral or "put together" sense of clean, but rather the just-so kind of CGI clean.

It's not really a flaw, per se. I'm just a fan of something that looks a little more rough around the edges.

Perhaps they'll program a little more randomness into Poser 8, giving things more of the chaos of real life.

Again, though: the face is awesome. I'm jealous of this face.

That's a mind-blower all right! Working magic Doug.

The right bicep is a little large, like she's wearing a lot of layers. Maybe that's where she hides the rabbit though... the face is eerily familiar of an ex I had. I actually like the poster you made behind her too... amazing work as always!

Doug these last two that I have seen (Ivy and Zatana) have just been the very best. As good as your work has always been these two really seem to go to a higher level. Very very nice.

Very stunning work as always, Doug. Though, personally, I'd have preferred fishnets!

(Geez, how long has it been since I've used that line in this section of the forums?)

Honestly, not only do I think this is one of your best pieces, this is some of the best work I've seen in this medium, period. Generally, 3D works tend to look overly artificial and cold. This piece seems comparatively natural and actually has a living expression to it. Outstanding.

FINALLY! Why no one else mentioned the lack of fishnets is a travesty! Without the fishnets, she's just another hot chick magician.

Still, the piece looks awesome.

I'm not surprised at all that I picked up on that so fast.

...for reasons that I don't think I need to go into here, as previously indicated.

Still, that's the most minor caveat ever, and from what I can tell it looks like (from the coloring alone - which could be the lighting) that hose were substituted for the fishnets, which is a perfectly acceptable change (and has been done by various artists in comic books for a while in relation to the character anyway).

:3

I went with the hose because my Black Canary has Fishnets and I wanted to show a different treatment. I also wanted to minimize attention on her legs by reducing the amount of detail in that part of the image, thus pushing the focus to her body/face.

But if DC wants the piece, I'll add fishnets in a heartbeat =)

Heh. As stated, she's worn both a lot depending on the artist that was drawing her at the time (and, of course, like many female characters has had her bust line all over the place. I swear, the only woman in comic books with a consistent bust-line is Power Girl, and that's because it's hard to ruin 'ginormous'), and I don't think it detracted from the piece at all.

It's very stunning and high-quality, and your reasonings for leaving it out are very solid. :3

LOL, I should have called it "Eyes Up Here!"

Maybe "Eyes up here . . . no, up HERE!" because after the legs I would have just moved to the cleavage.

Seriously though, it is a gorgeous piece. Easily one of your absolute best.

.... wow.

*is amazed*

And yes... face is in third place for the attention...
