really.. I see eyeballs and a nose... and err.. a long upper lip maybe... but how do they open there mouths?...

is there any place other then paragonwiki that might have stock photos for them?

they do, but on after the cosmetic changes to their look you can't see them much anymore, except on C'kel'kah and some of the ambassadors. It's ahrd to tell but I'm fairly sure their mouth is below theri nose and that long upper lip, as it were

I decided to go on a Rikti safari to find out...
And the answer is, suprisingly, no, unless it's a Rikti Monkey.
Face from the front.
Face from behind.
And the very mouthy Rikti monkies.

My best guess is either those slits on the side of their faces function as mouths (In which they'd likely have to eat everything from a straw).

Maybe they're sucking nutrients out of the air like baleen whales take water and filter it...

>_>

Or they're like tapirs, their mouth is just not quite visible very easily under their snout.

I've always thought that those slits on the "long upper lip" served as a way of creating sound for speech. Not sure about an actual mouth, but that "lip" looks like the closest thing...

Though, the amount of nutrients one could get out of the air is probably not enough to keep one alive, even when factoring bacteria, pollen, and the like.

The second one is slightly more likely, I would imagine...

And yes, I know I'm a killjoy. I take great pride in it. ;P

If I remember my CoH/V lore correctly: the monkeys are not, in fact, Rikti. They are a species of animals created by the Rikti. So, the monkeys can not be used to determine if Rikti have mouths.

Edit: I was right. Source

Rikti are humans from another dimension that took so much of a drug that it mutated them. They started dying from a chicken-pox style disease, and are in our dimension to steal our organs and use them to patch themselvse up. That and Nemesis convinced them to come ravage the planet so he could take it over more easily. But since they're taking our organs, they still have a similar internal makeup, meaning they probably still have to ingest food, meaning there's an orifice there somewhere that they'd shove food into. Oh, and also the Lost are taking the same drug, so they're sort of the missing link between us and the rikti.

Looking at the lore, I'm guessing that the rikti monkies are actually Rikti/similar to the Rikti.
*Spoiler*
I mean, the Rikti are from Earth, and were once humans. It's safe to assume that a few other animals on their Earth could be changed as well.

Rikti aren't interested in stealing our Organs.
Rikti didn't get 'Convinced' by Nemesis to do anything. He tricked them into attacking Earth.
The Lost were created by the Rikti. They are humans exposed to a mutagenic agent, suggested to be the same mutagenic agent that was used to create the Rikti subspecies in the first place by whatever Alien race did it to them.

I always assumed they did it to themselves, in a quest to "better" the species. It sounds like they were a small group who eventually took over the whole planet, wiping out or converting anyone who didn't believe in the Rikti way.

Am I missing some snippet somewhere that points at it being done to them?

That's incorrect. They undergo mutation due to an alien species.

In the RWZ, some Rikti refer to you as a "Birthform," yet in others its implied the mutation is initiated earlier. It's possible those calling your a "birthform" are mutated Lost.

[/ QUOTE ]

They started dying from chicken pox once they arrived on Earth. Just like the natives of North and South America when the Europeans came over, they had no immunity to it, having never been exposed before.

[ QUOTE ]

That and Nemesis convinced them to come ravage the planet so he could take it over more easily.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nemesis manipulated and tricked them with, among other things, automatons resembling the Phalanx.

To add on to this, I believe it is implied in Timothy Raymond's arc along with part of Levantera's second arc that Rikti are not born live, but rather start out as embryos growing up in what is referred to as an "exo-womb" by Ben Decker. Their initial mutations are introduced during this time and continued throughout their childhood and adolescence until they fully become a Rikti during what I assume is their young adulthood. Because humans ARE born live, it makes sense for Rikti to call us "birth-bodies".

[/ QUOTE ]

Bill already covered this, but I also want to cover the organ angle. The reason the Rikti are stealing organs (Mainly from medical cadavers, I believe. I don't think they want to lower themselves to actually tearing apart living humans) is to replace withered organs. Apparently, Rikti organs decay at an increased rate when they overwork themselves in combat, perhaps because the Rikti are usually a peaceful race and thus not used to the strain of battle. Since human and Rikti organs are fairly similar, they can use our organs when they cannot access whatever facilities that help with this problem on their homeworld.

As for the original question, I don't know if Rikti have mouths in the traditional sense, although DO have things that look like nostrils but may really be mouths. Complicating manners a bit is the fact that Rikti do indeed appear to consume some sort of physical food, although it apparently tastes like algae until you get its psychic flavor transmission, according to Infernia. How they consume this food is anyone's guess.
