I was pleased to see the Ascendant shield and a similar half shield there, too. That and the Blue Steel one - I modelled a police officer with the Blue Steel Shield, and a broad sword, like all police use. 
Just wish I could have gone ahead and made that character for real.

I dunno - every time I see him he just stands there. But with shield I think you need to be a Sword scrapper or an Axe brute/tank. If we could get a sword option that would look like a billy club it would be cool.

IIRC, you just need to be anything that doesn't 'occupy' both hands with a seperate costume bit (ie: No Dual Blades, or Katana). They did mention specifically tweaking a few sets (including Stone Melee) to work with Shields. Not sure if they carried through on that, though.. >>

for tanks you can make any combination except shield/dual blade, so yes stone is fixed to work with it.
scrappers yes: BS, DM, fire, MA
no: claws, DB, katana, spines
Brutes get everything except DB

I am as well. I think all of them look pretty goofy. Especially the Stone and Ice Shields. Fire is ok.

You could make her as a Broad Sword/Shield Scrapper, unless they proliferate Broad Swords to Brutes.

Yes. The only sets that cannot be used with Shields are those with a 'weapon' in or on the left hand. For practical purposes this would be Dual Blades, Katana, Claws, & Spines.
Sets like Super Strength, Martial Arts, Energy Melee, Dark melee, etc have alternative animations that range from being as simple as adjusting the left arm to completely re-animating the power. Stone Melee's Stone Mallet powers use some of the one handed animations of Battle Axe and War Mace.
