MMOART Presents...

Sweet! He mentioned my toon (Zal-El). Hopefully that means I'll be getting an early Christmas present for myself!

BTW, great work as usual Gil!

Just wondering if Gil's back up and running after the move?

Posted

Yup, as far as I now, he seems to be crankin' them out fairly regularly lately.

((not to mention the amazing quality))

I was starting to worry, myself but I tried to remind myself what life's like after a move.

Hectic

It's been over a month now with no news. Last bit of news was that they were moving and internet would be down for a bit.

I hope Gil's working dilligently as ever on clearing up his queue list and just hasn't had time to update his site, but even short absences now from him make me a bit jittery.

Any close friends of his know what's going on? Did the move go well?

*looks at his more optimistic post above*

I will admit, I'm worried now.

Heya, folks. I haven't talked to Gil in awhile, but I know what it's like to wait longer than anticipated for a piece of commissioned art. As far as I've heard though, Jomaro's never bailed on a customer who's paid already and I'm sure he's doing what he can. Some times though, life happens and well, alot of these transactions are bound by a contract...or really, worth going to court over. Sometimes, you might have to write off a commission as a loss. (I know that's not any comfort...but I do feel your pain as I still have stuff waiting from other artists as long as 18 months. And another artist passed away before my order was started. =/)

I love ya Bayani, but ...

booooooooooooo

I predict two possibilities:

1. Gill will post up 6 new pieces in 6 days and wow us all.

or

2. We'll go through another month of not knowing what's going on until the next re-boot.

((I hope that it's #1, for all involved))

I don't mind waiting for a commission. Knew it was going to be a while when I put in for one.

When someone goes for a long time without an update you do tend to wonder if they are ok. Hope things are going alright for them, and we hear from them soon.

Hehe. Maybe three years of experience makes me a bit cynical. Personally, I don't pay anything more than $50 upfront anymore unless it's someone who's got an agent I can hold partially accountable or I was referred to the artist by someone I trust. Even then though, you may get burned. I hope it's #1 too. It's just that the best you can really do is email/call regularly until you get an answer. Speaking of which, I have to go pester someone. >.>

Do you know something the rest of us don't? I know you used to work with Gil in the past so I'm assuming you still keep in touch with him from time to time or has all communication between you stopped?

lol man i wish i knew something you didn't. Truth is that I am in the same boat as you. Only worse i suspect. Been over 3 years since i paid up front for the pieces he owes me and i am out quite a bit of money. Yes i used to work with Gill and offered to help him again through the last couple "reboots". I also used to be in contact daily with Jomaro but i have not heard from him in a long time.

Whoa, three years? Really?

Yeah were past 3 years now man...

*low whistle*

That is a long time. This might be a good time to suggest that people dust off and read my guide to commissioning art. Kidding.

Far as I can tell, watching over a shoulder so to speak, there's artistic genius and small business stupidity.

The amound of money still outstanding for TA in unfinished art should be refunded to him. It is a significant amount and frankly I think it is insulting how much art that was commissioned long after he paid for his comes out with a "TAH DAH!! CHECK IT OUT!!". It's like a slap in the face, every single time!

Jomarro .. send him the money. He needs it a great deal more now than he does 3 year old art and all the headaches and disappointments you have helped to create.

It's sad because we all know how talented Gill is and we all go googoo for MMOART.

But with these apparently re-occurring absences (and normally one month does not an absence make... but people are a bit leery in this case), I have to wonder what exactly is going on.

I keep feeling like I'm missing the piece of a puzzle.

Art=awesome
Personality=great
Website=stellar
Reliability=hit and miss

So, what am I missing?

Posted

Not sure whats going on either. Its sad because hes a dam good artist. It could be anything from health problems to being a being lazy and not caring. Im starting to think its the later.

I'm not gonna rag on Jomaro, it's just when long silences follow a flurry of activity and with his past history, I get a little jittery.

I don't want this to become a rag on Jomaro thread. I was just curious if anyone had heard anything since they moved?

Seems nobody has.

Generally speaking you can count on me to be pretty dispassionate and diplomatic with almost all issues. I can get Sassy for sure .. but usually tongue in cheek.

In this case I've watched what has unfolded for a long time. A long, long time. I've been in communication with MMOArt privately.

When you run a small business and you display unavailability, inconsistency, sporadic emergence and sustained absences, like it or not, your character comes into question. Like it or not, small businesses ARE a reflection of the person who sources them.

I have absolutely no doubt that Jomarro and his lovely wife are really genuinely bright and lovely people.

That doesn't make them good business owners.

And .. when you make a small business from your own talents and don't have what it takes to run it professionally without letting people down, you have to take the blows. Sad but true .. this is the cost of running a small business.

yet with all of this... for some reason I half expect to see something amazing posted within a day - for some reason it always seems to flow that way.

If you're taking peoples money and there's a delay, you really do owe it to them to at least keep updating. Even something like "Well, the move is taking longer than expected and the new place looks like a disaster area. I expect to get this all cleaned up and get back to work in a week or two. Thanks for your patience!" would be fine.

Just post a freaking update! People are generally understanding about stuff. You don't have to lay out your entire personal life, just...SOMETHING!

Gil seems like a very nice guy and his work is really good...he just seems to have trouble with the basics of running a business.

I want to see more cool kitties. I really liked the kitties in the last couple pieces (I think they were the last couple... wherever they were, I liked 'em!). So whatever is going on, I demand more felines!
