During a recent rant from my 13 year old daughter I turned to my ex-wife and said "Any chance we can put her back where she came from?"

Strangely enough neither one of them seemed keen on the idea... although it did stop the screaming.

Well, they aren't my kids. So I don't actually have to deal with the "real" them. However, it feels good knowing the mother can't use that bit about "I gave you life...". Yes I am evil!

First day of school yesterday. Oldest boy comes home (age 12) complaining that the girls are picking on him. Tried for 20 minutes to tell him it is because they like him but can't get him to understand. Oh well. It will probably only be a few more years until he brings home something, errr, someone I wish he wouldn't have.

My daughter, now 13, will be entering that "bring the boy home to meet daddy" thing pretty soon. I am looking forward to it.

You see... I collect swords... I plan on arranging one of the rooms in my house as a "display room." I will take the boy, all friendly like, into the room and have a nice long conversation about respect and taking good care of my daughter... I may also take down a sword and sharpen it with a whetstone while having this conversation..

Gotta love that long steely rasp sound.. almost as good as nails on chalkboard..

Do you think he'll take the hint?

Hmm.. could have consequences Steel.. He could tell all the boys in school what a freak he thinks her Dad is and turn her into a pariah of sorts.. the social impact could be devestating yet, such things build character.. and hey, you won't have to worry about her bringing home anyone for a long time, cause she'll just start seeing em behind your back!

Sorry, pregnancy horrormones make me see the darker side of situations.

Hmmmm...insane, probably, crazy, maybe, cool...ify on that one to a boys mind. Heck, any dad I was introduced to I never got the"Meet my dad and his pet 12 guage" routine, most of them just seemed to give me the once over and actually trusted they're daugthers. That and I was the "goodboy"....my wife is laughing at that as I write this though.

August isnt over but lets get a quick recap of the antics of a 6yr old; my son; for this month alone.

Lets start early this month when he decided to take a tire chip (the shredded remains of tires used for playground padding) and place it in his ear. Which got crammed into there to the point of resting on the ear drum and had to be surgically removed under general anathesia. We give this $$$ out of 4 on the cost scale and a full !!!! out of 4 on the whiskey tango foxtrot scale.

Next while down in Florida on a mini-vacation to see his grandparents (his moms, I dont have any left), he desides to stick his fingers (2 of them) in a pop can.... and promptly slicing them pulling them out. Only a $ and !!, but still... quite annoying and messy (finger tips bleed alot).

And lastly, while playing outside with the water hose, he sees the 2 white PVC tubes extending from the side of the house. And decides to use the hose to run some water in them. Those 2 tubes are the exhaust and intake to the furance. And as luck would have it, he really swamps the intake, because the exhaust really wouldnt have mattered. Furnace heat exchanger flooded. Air pressure lines now water lines. Basement floor wet. $$ and !!!!! (yes 5 out of 4). Spent about 3 hours last night disassembling, drying and cleaning what I could. The electrical was un-damaged so its just a matter of cleaning up the washed in debris and drying everything out (already did a test run of both A/C and Heat.. both ok).

And school starts tomorrow... oh joy.

If anyone is looking for me, I've gone crazy. Back later.

He must have heard you say the furnace filters needed cleaning and he was just trying to help out by washing the furnace itself. Don't get mad, he was just trying to help. As for the tire chip, if you put it in your ear you can hear the ocean(!?!) Hopefully the health insurance paid for most of that. Now the question is... have you met your deductible yet?

gotta love Quebec health Care :P that woudn't cost a thing ( well not to you directly.. just to everyone paying taxes )

Yeah, I feel really bad for another Mom to be in the States.. she can't get a tooth looked after by the dentist because he can't help because she's pregnant and does'nt have a obstetricians note and the obstetrician won't take her because she lacks health insurance.

HERE in Canada, I'm not covered by dental but I can see any Obstetrician I want and I had a private birthing suite to have the baby in and the room I had afterwards was even sweeter.. AC, private bathroom, television.. even the furniture matched the decor.. and it cost me nothing. Thank goodness for Universal Healthcare.

Not quite nothing. Years of paying taxes out the nose has pre-paid medical expenses for you.

But yeah, your friend's situation is like many folks down here. An endless cycle of referrals, passing the buck, and not wanting to get sued, and meanwhile the ones who need help are still sitting in the waiting room.

As much as stuff costs for healthcare, however, I'd still rather pay after the fact than before. I don't like paying for something up front that I might never get to use. But maybe that's the "living from paycheck to paycheck" person in me that can find better uses of my money than to spend it on health insurance...like gas money.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

I guess I'm used to paying the GST and PST which in turn pays for the Universal Healthcare, road maintainence, countless other things I take for granted.. but I'm happier for it. I can still manage to keep up with bills and such. I'm glad that it saves anyone from any walk of life from being turned away.

My son Tom who's in the Autism Spectrum would'nt be attending the school for kids like him in a few weeks without it because there would'nt BE a place like that for him. Knowing there's a big safety net for all is worth the taxes.

OK I'm moving to Canada to have this baby. I am stuck in BFT TX where we have Prenatal Medicaid. The hospital here has no NICU. The last time I gave birth here the first 2 fetal monitors were broken, my son got stuck and was delivered not breathing, his apgar was very low, he was diagnosed with Erbs Palsy, was intubated and hand-bagged for over 7 hours because the infant ventilator was broken. Then he was carted away (via ambulance)to Shreveport, LA to THEIR NICU and was kept there for 2 weeks. (intubation tube came out within 48 hrs) I couldnt stay there because he was so far away and the Waiting House they had there for parents to be close to their child didn't allow other children. So I only got to see my son for 3-4 hrs per weekend when we were able to drive up there.
(As a note the original reason why the birth was so difficult was because my son weighed 11.5 lbs and was delivered vaginally. They never checked to see how big he was )
This time I'm scheduled to have a C Secton but I'm terrified. It will be in the same hospital and though I'll have a different doctor, I'm still worried about the state the hospital is in. We get private rooms but we stay there the entire time pre and post natal. My fear is that something is going to happen again. They send you home after 48 hrs when you have a c section. Is that right? I mean you have a sewn up gaping hole in your stomach and they send u home that soon? Am I freaking myself out? YES! You bet I am What you described sounds wonderful! Also familiar. When I had my 1st 2 boys I was in a hospital that had similar arrangements. They even fed my husband Guess it's the location where you are at when you have your child. Good Luck GP!!

*note* My son is now 2 and he's smart as a whip ( no brain damage from the lack of O2 when born) but still has Erbs Palsy. He has 75% movement loss in his left arm from his shoulder to his hand. He will be having surgery to give him more hand movement but that is all that can be done.

Thanks to the US medical system, Canada can enjoy some of the best medical care in the world. GP, and other Canadians, Brits, etc who have government insurance, remember that those single payer systems are notoriously backwards in their advancement in medicine and pharacuitcles. (Sorry about the spelling.) The private sector, profit generated, multi-payer american system is improving the lives of everyone across the world. Something that government health programs cannot boast.
