[u]Freaks push to #1[u]
After our victory over HVND, the unofficial PvP ladder had a 3 way tie for first, with each SG having beaten the other. Penance lost to HVND, Freaks lost to Penance, and HVND lost to Freaks. We decided that we felt we were ready to take on Penance in a rematch, and break the 3 way tie to determine who the #1 PvP SG was. It was a 20 minute 12v12 SG battle. We had perfected Cross-team buffing, and ran two teams of 6. A 1 blaster, 1 rad/psi, 1 kin, 2 taunters, and 1 emp on each team. Penance wasnt ready for the newly improved Freaks, and the first match ended with a score of 32-15, Freaks won. The second match Penance adapted to our new tactic, but they still fell short, Penance lost 30-28. The Freaks were now the undisputed #1 PvP SG!!
[u] #1 Villain Group too [u]
Im not gonna lie there wasnt much Villain PvP going on when CoV was introduced, but there were a few groups who made a name for themselves, LOTD, Bedlam, Jagged Legion, Original Sin, and a smaller VG, The Outlaws. The Freaks VG challenged and beat all of these other VGs to official arena matches and Won. While I was still leader of the Freaks, our VG was undefeated in over 8 VG Matches.

YOU THINK THIS IS A GAME?? THIS IS REAL LIFE! mwghost
There's some Arena History for ya....Now you know more about the Freaks in their Golden age, in the beginning, when PvP first came out. It was a good run; we achieved a lot, and pioneered a lot of the things that are still in use in Top Tier PvP today.
Peace,
FooManchu

LOL... that's alot of pixels just so you know.
PS, I can't believe no-one mentioned Evolution(Virtue)
I think Evolution was only around briefly, they were present when i4 first came out and participated in some arena matches, but never reached the high level of competition.
I know Evolution and Jagged Legion had a rivalry going..if memory serves me correct.
I know it was Evolution against Top Ten for a while.
ps BOO @ the dark rez back then.
tldr

I was carried by Patient. That's all.

lol Me and Skit dead in that screenshot.
Yes, we sucked while playing together as a server. But in minor defense, I've never experienced as much lag as I did in that match; I was basically worthless. That match was actually the direct reason I got a hardware upgrade back then. I think 16 of JP's 17 kills were me.
Very nice write-up, Foo.

I think that was something like "You remind me of the kid I beat the [censored] out of at the 7/11." Or, "I am going to beat the [censored] out of you like the kid at the 7/11." That was still good for an immense amount of lulz.
Wow, account is reactivated. Sweet. Hi.
Hey, can anyone hook a brother up with some IOs for pvp this weekend? I haven't played in years.
No.
CoH PvP is in it's prime nowadays, it really is.
It's a great game to spend hours daily on.
VR was undefeated.
lol.
There's a new sheriff in town and his name is dUmb.
looking back i didn't contribute much... i was along for the ride for both tribute dominating and freaks hitting number one
then again all i did was bubble people or taunt
best time I ever had was taunting Krole in the Penance vs Freaks match... i could hear him cursing me through the internet
frozen only got into tribute because of affirmative action
[censored] i forgot that joke... lol
damn for this being a 4 year old game a lot of pvp history went down

And Loan. And Demon.
The Evo core PvP team was pretty tight. Cowboy, Ciro, Elated, Fatality, Sharpened Blade and Trotsky were pretty tough to beat early in the PvP scene. Watching them do 8v8's against other server's 'you make your top 8' teams were fun. Did Fats' eMistress ever have her kid?
Oh and lol at my mind/sonic getting a kill vs JAL in that screenshot. I think Patient was emping in the second match and when asked he wasnt healing his response was: "shh! trying to get a kill" Poor guy was trying to time an unslotted energy bolt before Lab stole it.
And before you guys go and reroll your psi/energy blasters, remember, if Galvatron (tribute) can own face with a Peacebringer, so can you.
Who's up for a COH PvP meet and greet? Krole's providing lunch.

As I remember it, Evo wanted a match with JL because JL was the "better of the Hami spank-down teams". JL fought TA (Twilight Avengers) almost IMMEDIATELY after the I4 Beta and, well, too many perma-MoG Scrappers and about five Blasters with about eleven support toons did bad, very bad things to Scrappers.
JL housed people like Forum Troll[er], C'len [H E R O], and Climhazzard [R'shiel]. Twilight Avengers were the only SG at the time who could even mount a 16v16 against JL. Holy crap, even my En/Ice Blaster led killcounts.
I was there the night that Evolution first fought JL and, if I remember correctly, we had -a- kill to their sixty-some. Dominated every match before then and we got stomped. And hard.
Then Impy and I fought the Bots. Christ, what a match. This was before any of you even thought of builds beyond 1v1. There were still people practicing against AVs (KillerShadow, I'm looking at you). My Energy/Ice/Fly [censored] flew as fast as I knew how to, yet I couldn't make up for the disparity between SS and Fly. The Bots won the 2v2 Blaster match and, honestly, I've never been so proud to have lost a match since. We were damn well out-played.
Then the real matches started up. It was no longer PvP, it was TvT (JL v TA, Tri v OG, TT v Bots). JL stood back and watched. No longer challenged by the predictable AI, JL wavered, watching PvP teams trump one another.
If anyone remembers, it was I that challenged Tribute on behalf of Jagged Legion. I had only the backing of a few people at the time and didn't feel the team cohesion that we'd truly need to even -fight- against them. The challenge fell to the wayside as JL found itself short on aggressive members in the PvP community. A number of SGs challenged JL and I turned them all down; Jagged Legion lost too many of the sure-fire members that made us both PvE and PvP successes. Beyond our home server names like Belle., Blue, Saint, Seleven, Charbroil, ProZack, Victim 51, Radition, MISSUniverse, Scarlet Claw, and Collapsar don't mean much but they damn sure caused a ripple in the current "celebs". Alarys's "Goddess of Gravity" was shaped after Collapsar to fight my Ice/En, Loridai (who lost to CantBetMe, lawl). Loridai beat Pesky's Kat/SR. H E R O was never trumped until a Rad/Psi from Pinnacle beat him. Forum Troller may have lost to an Earth/Emp but there are pletny of Lvl 3 BRK FRZZZZZZZ, when someone did better. I even remember the day -Fates lost. *ahem* Sure, those on Pinnacle can remember people like H E R O, R'shiel, Forum Troller, Impadivus, Green/Brown Aphid, and Alloric; yet few remember the legacy of the members of Jagged Legion that still led the crowd.
JL led the pack from the gate and nobody challenged for a good, long while. Then Top Ten took the stage, Tribute did even better. By the time most of our "veteran" PvPers learned to spike the best players in the game lost interest and went elsewhere.
Maybe another game can reunite all of CoH's very best for a true trial of the greatest teams and players.

Liur. You so begged me for my Ice/FF two years ago.
Did everyone forget teh LMC.
[u]Big League PvP and Tribute[u]
We never got to fight Tribute. They were always the undisputed #1 PvP SG back in the day, and they retired from the game. HVND started to trash talk Tribute, so Tribute came back out of retirement and accepted HVNDs challenge. After Tribute beat HVND, they went back into retirement, so HVND automatically became the #1 PvP SG by default. Penance challenged HVND and lost, putting them in second place. I saw this as an opportunity to get the Freaks name better known in the PvP world (Back in i4 and i5), so I challenged Penance to an Official. We went into the match overconfident, and the first round was 36-17 Penance, and the second round was 65-0 blowout, penance won.
That was the big turning point in Freaks PvP. I came to realize that even though we beat up on a ton of SGs on liberty, owned in kickball, and were victorious in Server vs. Server battles, we were not going to be able to compete for the top PvP SG spot unless we were more organized. I started scheduling daily practices; we ran a lot of internals and the people who did kickball helped by being practice partners (LEGION SG from liberty). We even had a few minor officials against SGs such as ABH, where we sported our 4 bubbler team with powerboosted bubbles, just to mess around, haha. We totally annihilated them, and our choice of toons for the official stirred up some commotion amongst the top teams.
After a few weeks of practicing everyday, we challenged HVND to an official. HVND accepted, but when it came to the week of our official, they said they needed to push back the date because some of their players couldnt make that date because of RL stuff. When our Official match finally happened, we knew why they had asked for more time as the HVND team started to join the match. They need more time because they were PLing an all illusion team (with 1 blaster), that all had the name Acetophenotidon with a letter or two that was different so it would make it impossible for us to call targets. WELL, their plan backfired on them big time because they made 2 huge mistakes. Their plan WOULD have worked had they brought all 8 illusion controllers, but they didnt. They had 2 ill/storms, and 1 ice/eng blaster, which allowed us to all lock on target by targeting the blaster, or one of the storms. They turtled up a lot and moved as a group, but with stacked CMs and stealth suppression when they attacked, we were able to see through the stacked group invis and we would lock on the blaster or storms, jump in and get a spike kill, then jump out of their turtle and rebuff. We shut them out 17-0. The second round they busted out their jump team, which had the same toons as us minus the rad/psi. Yeah there were a few other Rad/Psis on test like Peritus, and Havoc, but Hans and Ry are the Pioneers of the Rad/Psis on 8v8 teams. Nobody used them for team PvP until we sported the Rad/Psi specifically as a debuffer/ target caller and 3rd blaster against HVND when they brought their Acetophenotidon gimmick team. Their jump team did a little better against us, but we still won by a decisive margin, 16-6. Freaks vs. HVND screenie
[u]PvP Zones, and FREAKburg[u]
The PvP zones came out Bloody bay, Sirens Call, and Warburg), and we literally ran Warburg on Liberty. All the badgers complained and cried because they were trying to get their pvp zone badges and wed farm everyone in the zone whether we had a 2 people team, or two full 8 man teams. Nobody on liberty got their PvP Zone badges in Warburg for the first month, unless they were there when we were sleeping. We started calling Warburg, FREAKburg, and that didnt go over too well with the rest of the server, so we challenged the whole server to a battle for Warburg. 24 Freaks, versus the rest of Liberty (heroes and vills), whoever kept control of the globe in the middle for an hour won and would be able to proclaim the zone theirs. SO, on the scheduled date and time our 24 Freaks showed up, and over 150 people from Liberty came to fight against us for Warburg. This is where we perfected cross-team buffing. Needless to say after about 25 minutes of intense battling, we pushed the whole opposing force that Liberty brought back to the Beach, where we farmed anyone who even came out of the water. After 45 minutes the 150+ people gave up and the Freaks Officially proclaimed the zone as FREAKburg.
We used to run our 4-8 bubbler team in FREAKburg we called it FREAKburg Soccer, cuz wed have all our Force bubbles pushing the poor helpless Badgers, and all others who opposed us into the corners of the map, and wed stack holds on them, drop their toggles with endless force bolts, and force them to have to log out in order to get away from us because we wouldnt kill them so they could re-spawn, wed keep bouncing them back and forth into the corner. And if you think it cant be done, 8 force bubs, speedboost from a kin They couldnt touch us because we had 4-8 sets of bubbles, yeah, we were jerks
