Then Impy and I fought the Bots. Christ, what a match. This was before any of you even thought of builds beyond 1v1. There were still people practicing against AVs (KillerShadow, I'm looking at you). My Energy/Ice/Fly [censored] flew as fast as I knew how to, yet I couldn't make up for the disparity between SS and Fly. The Bots won the 2v2 Blaster match and, honestly, I've never been so proud to have lost a match since. We were damn well out-played.

Steel Canyon map?

2 Energy/? Blasters against Positronbot (Elec/Elec) and Polarbot (Ice/Em)?

[/ QUOTE ]

Office map.

PosiBot - Elec/Energy (right? Had SS and mostly duked it out with Impadivus)
PolarBot - Ice/Energy (for sure had SS but was dying far more than Posi)

Impadivus - Energy/Energy (Fly and SS but still, EM)
Alloric - Energy/ICE (somehow I almost kept up because of multiple holds shutting down the double-team on Impy, I got some kills but lacked the heavy-hitters)

Wow...reading that thread brought back some serious memories.

I'll add my 2 cents.

Pretty much when issue 4 released i formed Lions Den and did my best to round up every good PVP'er on Victory.

Our Roster early on was pretty sick if you look at what some of the players did in the game down the road.

Rift ( playing my Claws/Dark..LOL)
Rock Mason - Stone tank
Krole - His stormie
Electric Heroine - Her elec Blaster
Patient V
Demon Sorcerer
John Travoltage
Pyrus
Chilldom
Cuddles
Cuch ( AKA Mul)
Alesh
Mikey and Lori

That was the core group who more or less started Lions Den..if i forgot anybody i'm sorry.

It was at this time that i developed alot of the Tournament and side formats i became known for like the Lethal Lottery, The Super 32 and the Iron Man Tournament. I was holding tournaments every single weekend for almost a year, during this time the PVP on Victory really started to grow alot..even non PVP'ers would come and play in the Tournaments because i always did my best to balance the rules to favor the casual players a bit.

The big highlights i remember from our early days were our first match vs Sitting Ducks which was probably the purest PVP match ever played ..both teams basically brought their 50's and we just went at it..we were so happy we won. And i remember thinking that we could bang with anybody.

Lions Den vs Tribute - Or as this came to be known " Holy Crap we suck"..Tribute was so damn far ahead of the Curve..they were the Babe Ruth's of PVP, they were Jim Brown in the 60's..they were trully the pioneers of Team PVP. I think they beat us by like 4500 kills. I remember thinking that they somehow got like 20 extra people into the match because thats how it seemed at the time..it was without a doubt a big eye opener.

During this time Lions Den played a few more matches against teams Like Hell Raisers and the Freaks. To put it mildly we were very good or that well organized at the time..but we were at least competitive with the non Tribute groups.

Then came our split with Penance which really hurt us, we lost most of our best players..and to be honest i was proud to see Penance smash their way through the ranks because i felt like in some small way i was at least partly responsible for them coming together.

It was at this time when Lions Den got smashed vs the Freaks in the Legendary 100-3 match that ultimatly turned us onto our path of success.

I specifically remember Triox coming to Lions Den within like 2 days of that match happening..we got smashed to bits and he stuck around, i always appreciated that.

We slowly started recruiting players and we picked up Sing,Manny,Shurl and Pan. It was at this time that we really went crazy with practicing.

We would practice 3-4 hours a night every single night..i pretty much ignored my now ex-girlfriend during this time as i'm sure most of our members did. This went on for months..we really enjoyed practice.

Our first match of the new Era was against LOTD..i remember it being a really tough match..they were good players and even though they were on an all Villian team they played us extremely tough. I believe we won 2-0 and i remember players like Kyle saying " If Lions Den beat them on Villians then Villains are worthless"

I tell ya i never hated anybody in a game more then i hated Kyle..if anybody ever wants to know what drove me to practice like it was the coolest thing on earth it was because i wanted to beat the snot out of Kyle and the Freaks more then i wanted sex with my girlfriend at the time...if that helps put it in perspective.

We eventually went on to Beat all the groups of that era..Freaks,HVND,JAL,Sitting Ducks, ABH, and so on.

I know alot of people like to try to take something away from us because we were the first group to really practice Vengence stacking but i dont think that was a big factor in our success. People really dont understand how much we used to practice and just how good alot of our members were.

In the End we left for WoW not only because we had become somewhat bored with this game but just because we needed something new in general.

I really appreciate just how good the other groups were and its cool to see them talk about their time at the top of the Food Chain. Each of the big groups that are on the COX Mount Rushmore of PVP could claim they were arguably the best group ever and i really wouldnt complain because they each brought something different to the table or innovated something that other groups copied.

My hats off to all the old school PVP'ers and groups..i had alot of fun while we were here.

The Lions Den Salutes all of you.

And it would finally be an event that would have more than 5 people participating!

What was the date on the photo compared to the first match with LOTD and LD? Its amazing how fast they got good. Was it veng, or was it skill well never know. I know a equal skill team stacking vengeance will kill the other team it wouldn't even be a fight. I know when practicing against the LD vengeance team our taunting ss tanks couldn't even land a taunt with fort.

Tribute beats Lions Den off of Victory in an SG Battle on Test
Added 10/9/2005 by mwghost
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first match was a 14 vs. 14 with the kill leaders being Chris Havoc followed by Johnny Priest with a final score of 162-12 Tribute. The second match was a 13 vs. 13 with many more melee toons. Ice Priest, a Tribute applicant, and Colosus leading the kils with a final score of 227-21. Great matches everyone.

It took us about 4 months of 3-4 hours a night of practice..this was 6 or 7 days a week as well.

Honestly i think Vengence only really played a part in 2 or 3 matches we ever played. Most of the battles we played during our peak we would jump out to huge leads right from the start..then we would suffer a death or two..get a vengence off and that would lead to the steamroll effect.

But most matches we played in we would be up 10 or 12 kills before we even had a death so to think that we would be behind then get off vengence and run of 30 kills is just silly.

Vengence more then anything was a knockout type punch that closed the show and if it ultimatly made the difference in more then a couple games i would be pretty surprised.

It wasnt till after we left that teams went really nuts with Vengence..hell i dont think we ever topped 100 kills in a match..but once we were gone it happend a few times..maybe it was better competition or maybe we just werent using it as much as everybody likes to think we were.

If anyone remembers, it was I that challenged Tribute on behalf of Jagged Legion. I had only the backing of a few people at the time and didn't feel the team cohesion that we'd truly need to even -fight- against them. The challenge fell to the wayside as JL found itself short on aggressive members in the PvP community. A number of SGs challenged JL and I turned them all down; Jagged Legion lost too many of the sure-fire members that made us both PvE and PvP successes. Beyond our home server names like Belle., Blue, Saint, Seleven, Charbroil, ProZack, Victim 51, Radition, MISSUniverse, Scarlet Claw, and Collapsar don't mean much but they damn sure caused a ripple in the current "celebs". Alarys's "Goddess of Gravity" was shaped after Collapsar to fight my Ice/En, Loridai (who lost to CantBetMe, lawl). Loridai beat Pesky's Kat/SR. H E R O was never trumped until a Rad/Psi from Pinnacle beat him. Forum Troller may have lost to an Earth/Emp but there are pletny of Lvl 3 BRK FRZZZZZZZ, when someone did better. I even remember the day -Fates lost. *ahem* Sure, those on Pinnacle can remember people like H E R O, R'shiel, Forum Troller, Impadivus, Green/Brown Aphid, and Alloric; yet few remember the legacy of the members of Jagged Legion that still led the crowd.

[/ QUOTE ] JL was great at the begining because they had tons of Hamis. Ill be the first to admit the only reason I was good on my DM/Invuln was because I had better enhancements than pretty much everyone. Sure yall had some good players but overall it was much more individual or 2v2 efforts. I have never considered myself a great dueler becuase I know people I beat on pinnacle are pretty much retarded. An we cant forget United beating yall and making the push to test. Eventually everyone in united left for WoW except for me an Blizzard who joined velocity. Btw who did -fates lose to?

Well I know as Freaks the Vengeance was huge. We tried to gather up but never made it part of our winning scheme. We never practiced gathers but maybe twice that I remember. I remember calling target on a blaster we dropped a Velocity guy and CZ soloed someone else without us knowing. We camped the dead body and nuked but Vel gathered on the other dead member and I think we scored 2 more kills the entire match. like 80-5 final score. Since the old Freaks disbanded I have played with and against a lot of the veng team blasters and while a lot of them are good, I have never seen another teams offense be able to out score aura, me, and whoever was our third by 16 times. It was just sick. Sad that a lot of our games history could be marred by a bug.

I think I saw screenshots from that match but I know I also saw a match with Alloric against the Bots on the Steel Canyon map.
I remember being impressed that a couple Energy primary blasters were doing so well against an Ice/EM and his partner.

Like I said before, I used to spend alot of time on test server watching matches.

I fought and won many duels vs. Snipefu and other blasters with my eng/eng blaster on test, but I don't have any of those screenshots cuz that was before I really started caring about keeping records of stuff.

The only time I ever actually beat ya was when I was paired with a certain Ice/Emp troller and you got paired with someone else with a lackluster powerset. Even back then, Blaster+Emp = killer.

We had some good matches though and they were always a blast.

Its good to see a thread recounting all the amazing PVP we had in the past. Glad to see all the old groups are doing well and I'm glad that we (HVND) and all the other spectactular groups helped influence and shape PVP that is still around.
