City of Commercials -- Contest Entries

I love the suggested accusation, really I do and I am flattered you would think I am that devious. Truly I am.

But let's enter back into the realm of reality here. I know many players who are husband and wife, father and son, roommates, etc. Around half of my sg falls into this category. People who also spent time with me setting scenes, offering suggestions, and supporting the project wholly. Am I now to say to them, after their hard work and anticipation that about half of their votes will not count? This wasn't just my video, it was the coordinated effort of a single cause, in unison, making art, creating art! I was only the one who had the materials to compile and edit this into a video format readily available.

That comment was not a slap to me, but my coalition, my super group, my friends, and my family.

Not fair to the rest of the entries? My pigtails!

I agree - I AM part of one of those husband/wife teams, our best friends (soon to be married) also play, as do several of our colleages from work, other friends, oh, yeah, and our god-daughter. Problem is, we all live near each other.

And maybe it bespeaks of an almost hideous arrogance or overconfidence, but I don't NEED to pad my votes. For one thing, my work is good enough that I don't need to cheat. For another, it does me no good whatsoever, when trying to improve my work, to pad the results of what others think of it. Do I WANT to win? Sure. Will the world end for me if I don't? Hell, no.

I don't know about the other entrants, but I'm more concerned about the commercial contest being FAIR than I am about WINNING it. I'd rather lose fairly than win unfairly.

So kindly leave the conspiracy thinking at the door of the forum (and the w00tstudios.net site when you go over there to view the entries), and enter instead with an open mind.

As far as the IP's goes, it actually tends to depend on how the network is setup. Some networks are setup to show up only as one public IP, others are not. The ones that will most likely be affected are those from the same residential net connect. Institutions, schools, corporate networks, etc shouldn't have any issues.

Also as Rose said.. right now the only one who can see the results is me.

Well, I'm glad I did that, lot's of good entries, I took notes, I don't even have to worry about when it gets to the committee I already know who I'll be picking

Actually, the biggest problem I had was tricking the website to load the videos without having an error.

Also Dark Respite's comments seem to always match what I was thinking, was having trouble trying to make comments without repeating what she said.

well i take it now this will be rigged since anyone not in game nor anything to do with this game like "parents" and "people in dorms" will be voting

i suggest next time getting with ex or light to poll it on this forums to avoid cheating or stacking of votes..at least a valid account would stop the cheating more then it appears to already have been

i wont bother to get involved in another one of these .grats to whomever padded the most.its clear that will be the most likely winner.

sorry this was a good idea but clearly not thought out properly to avoid this isssue and fairness to everyone

you can have this one deleted too..like my last post but it still remains i wont bother wioth you people againuntil you learn to do this properly

Jester - glad to see that you're trying to balance all of this to make things fair (while keeping your site from crashing in the meantime). And I appreciate that you're trying to take all this into account.

Severe - if you feel that strongly about it, then by all means, don't take part. But I still think the 'padded votes' argument is nonsense, because it doesn't stop with what people vote - the PERC team still has to do their thing. And it's sad that your apparent stance now is, "If I don't win, it's because they cheated."

I suggest next time you ask Ex Libris or Lighthouse to set up the poll in the boards themselves. One forum username, one vote. That's what I did for the Splasher contest to avoid this kind of thing.

Can I ask you clarify your reasons for me?

As Rose has stated, we did try to stay away from CoX support, and have the contest hosted somewhere else, and thats where w00tstudios came into play.

Using the CoH boards would have made padding votes even easier, especially with multiple and trial accounts. Having a shared residential IP, I cannot vote on the Woot site, therefore this is the fairest contest you can possibly have.

As far as getting your SG, Coalition, and friends to vote...hey that's what they're supposed to do, a show of support from the people you featured in your video. Without those votes and the votes of the general public, there won't be a winner.

Just out of curiosity, why does it "have to go to the committee for judging"? Why don't PERC reps vote like the rest of us, at W00T? If you have final say why bother with a poll?

I don't care who wins, I didn't enter, I have no friends that entered. But I sat there, watching entries, more than once, to pick what I thought were best and now I can't help but wonder if I wasted my time because it's going to be about favorites. No offense, ah take offense I don't care, but I don't trust any of these player run contests to begin with.

Thanks for the inquiry! I will be glad to explain to you why it's going to PERC for final judging, and it might actually help with some of the other "stuffing the ballot box concerns".

The original reason why we decided that we were going to have the community vote was to help us pick the top 15 videos (we were expecting a higher turnout- but hey! we still have quite a good showing), and from there the P.E.R.C. judges are going to judge based on 4 specific aspects: Originality, Professionalism, Creativity, and Commercialism. We can not expect to hold the community at large to judge based on criteria. We can only be accountable for ourselves.

The other reason that we are going to be judging is because what if one person does get all of his friends/family and accquaintences vote for them? This way we can make sure that all the rules are followed and there are specific aspects that we will be looking for. So, for example, if someone has all his friends come in and vote for him, but essentially made a music video (and I am not saying that anyone did this) we would be able to weed that video out with our own vote based on the commercialism judging criteria. (I hope that makes sense for you!)

I don't want you to think that we are not going to take the court of public opinion into account, because it will play part in finding the winners.
