I was thinking of doing something like that. Of course I'll use my favorite stackables, the file cabinets, and put them around the bonfire circle and stack them to the ceiling. Like a black marble chimney. But now I see how you've used the torches and that looks nicer. Maybe instead of using the small desks you could stack a couple of reg desk facing out? Or even the wood fence-like pieces on the side and then stack a couple of arcane carved stones for the mantle?

Yep, those were the kind of modifications I had in mind. I actually had that orange-wood cabinet up top as the mantle originally, but the colour of it just irks me with the stone. I want to keep it arcane looking but I'll try to play around with some wood accents.

Well, not really, but that would certainly be perfect for what you've got in mind...
Closest I can think of is the 'rustic' desks, but those look really more like 'distressed' wood than stone unfortunately. Didn't stop me from using them as 'wooden beams' in my inspiration bin setup, but still...that might be an alternative to the arcane 'tables' (I think that's what they're called) that you're using there. Still, I like the fireplace idea, what you've got looks good as is I'd say

Wow love the fireplace idea, Amygdala, and you're definitely on to something with the way you have it designed! Perhaps you could go with the small stone blocks, stacked up to achieve a more rugged look for the sides though?
I think perhaps that, mixed with Flashblast's idea for the top, would provide something a little closer to what I would do, if I... you know... felt like tearing up something in one of my bases to make space for something... like... that.... um.....

Yeah the torches are nice for a fire source. I'm still having a hard time trying to make the "look" go. I've been at it for over a week on and off doing layering designs but so far they all involved losing 1 whole 1x1 on a room. I am close to finishing another version without the lose of too much space. Lets hope that one will work out.
The only good thing not being able to come up with a fireplace idea I am content with is that that is 1 more day I dont have to demolish the library and the whole base.

That is kind of how I felt while I was creating mine. I love the idea, but it's tough to get the right items together to make it look realistic. Still, I thought it was worth a shot. Especially since Magic Desks entered my life...

Hi Amygdala =) I would love to post some ideas so we can contemplate them together but I'm doing most of my stacking in my head and on a spreadsheet/graph. No real stacking in the base yet since it takes too long. I've been experiencing a lot of lag while editing the base due to the massive amounts of decorative items.
I did make the best room. I'ts my Imagination Room. It's full of wonderful things. Elephants statues, Castle under seige by ogres, and many many more. I just make fun of anyone who visits and says it's just an empty room =) hehehe
Hey Amygdala, I got the fireplace to have that "fireplace look" using the torches. It's currently floating at exactly the half way point of the lowest floor and top height.
I'm decorating a 4x5 room so I wont be doing the bottom rest of the fireplace deco till I get all the upper deco of the whole room. But it actually looks decent.
Feel free to swing by and check out the deco. It probably wont be done soon but you can see the sections get done.

For about a year now I've wanted to put a fireplace in my base, but never could. And with Christmas coming up, I figured I'd give it another go. (Santa coming down the base portal just isn't the same). Thanks to magic desks, I have been able to make a solid attempt at one. Here is what I have so far:
