Trouble Connecting? Lag? Click Here for More Info!
Thanks, FatherXmas. I tried that, and none of the tracerouts to those IPs could reach the destination.
*Edit* I went ahead and submitted the tracerouts.
*Edit again*
Well, I got a form-letter reply, saying:
"Thank you for contacting PlayNC Technical Support.
Unfortunately, your request is either incomplete or unclear please update this ticket with the detailed description of the issue you are facing. Also, let us know the exact error message you are getting there."
What a load of ****. My ticket said "I am unable to connect to the game. Lighthouse suggested I send the tracerouts to the PlayNC servers to help resolve the problem, so here they are:" followed by the text from all of the failed tracerouts.
How much clearer do I have to be? Did I use big words? Should I draw a diagram? Should I use finger-puppets?
Fear not, 90%+ of those e-mail's are automatically generated. You just need to get by the first few layers of support. However in a case of a Internet blackhole, they need to compile enough data to bludgeon those in charge of that hop to fix the problem.
Heck, I keep getting survey requests for how to rate my experience of support's response to my spammer petition. However since the policy is not to report back to the requester about such petitions, there is nothing to rate for the survey.
However if I submit a petition for being stuck and a GM comes and helps me, do I get a survey request then? Of course not.

Well, I've gone through six email exchanges with what I assume is a real person. He is having me submit my DxDiag now, as if it might be my drivers or something. I'm guessing he doesn't read the forums.
*edit* Sure enough, he's saying my graphics driver is out of date and won't help me any further until I download and install it. *sigh* As if my graphics driver could possibly have any effect on a failed tracerout.
Oh, and to top it off, I'm getting worse and worse connection to the PlayNC site now. It's taking me 5-6 minutes to load the page just to reply each time. Yeah, it's definitely my graphics driver.
Well he's following a script then and the script says your graphic drivers are out of date.
Checking with your posts in the mapserve thread, you may be experiencing a similar set of symptoms but a different cause entirely.
Start a new thread and post your DxDiag and HiJack This reports asking the forum gurus to take a look to see if they/we see anything glaringly wrong. Expect things like "update your drivers" and the occasional troll dissing your rig. There may be something else blocking up your connection.

Ok, I cannot connect to the game apparently it will not get past the updater screen, 2 hours later it says connect #64 and still counting. worked fine last week got on it today and will not connect. I have tried Firewall settings and changing properties to direct port in the Exe. updater and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
Satellite, Cell, Cable, DSL, Dialup or ???... what kind of a connection are you using?
Secondly... who's your ISP?
Thirdly, using MSConfig, turn off everything in the startup tab, reboot and retest it.
Fourthly, (or maybe Thirdly, if you wanna) try opening 26 of the updaters. One of them might catch. That'd be the Satellite force in, btw.
Dunno if this will help... maybe a hijack this and dxdiag log...
Oh, in 'read this' find information regarding the Net Info Tool. Download and run it, see what it's log says, maybe post it here too. The tool is at the end, or near it, of the thread, I put the post in mahself.

I just started having this problem, it was fine earlier today.
Just last night I was getiing ALOT of lag in bank mission, talking 3-4 fps here. Regular missions were fine though. No bloom, water, any high-end special effects really. Highest setting is character detail(100%/very high), world detail's 65%, and Low seting, so setting graphics lower wont do much, plus, as I said, it only happens in CoV bank(Mayhem) missions. Had tried un/reloadgfx in-game, but it didnt help.

The links for the network information tool are broken. Correct link is here.
I just put together a new rig.
I'm started downloading a 41.9 MB update to CoH (copied the CoH folder from the old machine). It started (and is continuing at about 15 KB/Sec. 5 minutes into it, I started downloading a Portal demo (6.2 GB worth). That's coming down the pipeline at 900 KB/sec. The CoH update hasn't budged either way. That 6.2 GB download is going to complete before the CoH one is...
Yeah, I'm frustrated right now...
The only point so far that I am having issues with and I didnt see it mentioned is in Sharkhead Isles I mapserver there about every 20 seconds
@Sorak
Since i12 hit I've had more than a little trouble connecting to the log in server. Any thoughts? Thanks!
You know, just to throw this out there - I had a whole mess of crepes this morning. They're just like pancakes, maybe even better.
I'm having similar difficulty, both the COHupdater.exe and the actual Log-in screen take forever since update.
Took almost 2 minutes for the updater to "connect" and discover it was up to date. I assumed it was just "server lag" but when I got in only Freedom had even medium connections.
I can't connect either. It loads halfway, then kicks off back to main login screen

The net tool does a number of things. However the largest portion of the test is getting the traceroutes to the various NCSoft servers.
The IP addresses to those servers are:
West Coast Servers
216.107.240.3
East Coast Servers
216.107.248.3
Login Server
216.107.249.131
206.127.144.229
You can do a Traceroute yourself or use a tool like PingPlotter.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm, are those IP numbers accurate? I've been getting alot of lag over the past couple days, and if I ping those I don't get a response, and if I do a tracert on 216.107.248.3 the last 10 hops go dead, no response.
Just had a thought. Im about to look over my firewall settings, as I dont recall it asking if it should allow CoH internet access, as it usually does. Im still getting only timeouts after hop 12, and have expressly allowed the ips above through my firewall, though I hadnt needed too before, but it doesnt seem to make a difference.

That's most likely a software conflict. Disable any programs you're using in the background, especially things like WindowBlinds, which is notorious for messing with games.

Might be redundant. Just saw your first post about 2 - 4 fps. Network lag and poor framerates are two very different things. If you're getting poor framerates try updating your video drivers.
Not the drivers, I dont think, Ive had this before, but Ill look for new ones anyway. Been a couple months since I last checked. As to network lag, did I mention that Im seeing Ice arrows block of ice appear before Ive fired it, even when soloing?

These links quoted below seem to be missing or broken.
I could use a tool like this for I'm having major packet loss issues (durring certian and spacific hours) I would like to bring up with my internet provider.
I have scoured the web and can find no such link for this program at ncsoft.

[/ QUOTE ]You want this link ftp://ftp.lineage2.com/support_tool/ When run, theres a selection screen(it works with multiple games), select 1 for CoH, and let it run. It takes awhile, but is good to have.

To be sure, the link is *ages* old. It's been changed. If you had continued to the end of the thread, then back up a couple of posts... the correct link is there. I know... I put it there, and i test it every so often. It still works.
And it doesn't have Lineage in it's name. They'll both work, it's the same tool.
However, as a backup, you might want to use the IPs used in the NIT, and plug them into PingPlotter free. I've seen some issues with the net info tool... I recently wasn't able to get it working... and then it fixed itself, I have no idea why. Game never stopped working either. It was odd. But all through that, PingPlotter worked great, so it's a good backup to be sure of the pathing between you and the servers.

Still having MASSIVE lag in bank missions, both red and blue side, but regular mission are fine. Dropped world detail to 50%, shaders to medium, tried re/unloadgfx, no bloom, water effects, ect.(never use them), character detaill 100%, supress close effects both on... Im totally clueless as to why its only bank missions, I can run around anywhere, even AP, with shaders at high, and world detail at 200%, with no problems almost all the time, and if there is a problem, its minor. I dont think its my net connection or my hardware, as its only the bank missions this happens in, so Im wondering whats different about them, as I didnt have anywhere near this trouble with them before.

But being in IT you would also know that if 99% of your users are online without problems, then the 1% having problems will not be caused by server problems or misconfiguration on the server side.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bad assumption there. Just because a problem crops up for 1% just means there may be a bug server side that is exposed by their setup. Slight difference in semantics.
