I have verified this myself by using a preview version of the 10.4 drivers that was released today. I will post links to the official release 10.4s in this thread when they become available.

Additionally, the ability to switch tasks via Alt-Tab has been fixed.
On the Alt+Tab issue, what OS are you using, GBE?

Once 10.4 drivers hit, and issue 17 hits, is there any chance of getting the 'recommended' settings fine tuned to account for Ultra mode?

I'm running a Radeon 4870 HD with 10.3 currently, and I keep getting issues with the GPU not responding while zoning/loading certain things. its pretty random, and I've jacked up ultra mode as much as possible (everythings so pretty!) but I don't want to cause any permanent damage to my video card. Any recommendations?

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

Seemed so to me. I'm on Win 7 64-bit and it wasn't until I put on the OGL4 preview drivers that my Alt-Tab got working again. The issue seems related to Aero on Win 7. CoH turns it off when it has the focus and for some reason that was playing havoc with Alt-Tab. Now, it still turns Aero off, but Alt-Tab works and turns Aero back on while CoH is in the background.

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

Actually, once I set my Desktop Theme back to one of the Windows standard themes, I never had another problem with Aero and Alt+Tab'ing again.

I tried that myself and it never worked for me.

MAJOR HELP NEEDED HERE!

I am Not computer smart, got into this game as soon as I even got an e-mail account.

When I got this HP I showed two techs the minimum requirements page for the game, now it says ATI Radeon 8500 series, both techs at two different stores told me the ATI xpress 200 series is almost twice the power of the 8500 so I got the laptop.

I've tried everything, went back to normal HP update which I've had the best/lest lag in game, loaded Catalyst Control Center 6.4, updated to 10.1, then 10.2, then 10.3 and even 10.4 = all cause More lag and less picture sharpness.

At the normal HP updates I have nice picture/less lag on live and a nice moving/frame rate on Test = of my Auras, I see Only auras and names over player's heads, going with Any of the catalysts I get to see everything but frame rate so bad can't move.

What am I doing wrong or what have I missed doing?

Well either they know nothing or they lied. The Xpress 200M is a pretty wimpy integrated GPU. It's below the 8500 in specs. So no surprise to me you're having issues. Unfortunately, I can't see any way for you to really make it better. What laptop did you get?

Well it's equally possible they just don't know squat about video cards. So...

You should have said from the start you were on a laptop.

Laptop drivers are not the same as desktop drivers, and you've more than likely got desktop drivers installed, and that's likely causing a lot of your problems. Lemme see what I can find ...

The catalyst control center download was the one for the xpress 200 as it listed on the site

The fundamental problem you have is you lack a video card that meets even the minimum specs for the game. It's unfortunate but it's the truth. The salespeople you talked to gave you some very poor advice. If you're set on playing on this machine, you have a choice between playable and pretty. That's pretty much the choice between the HP drivers and the Catalyst ones. It's simply not something we can really 'fix' for you I don't think as your issue is ultimately in the hardware. If you have the option, I'd actually suggest taking it back and getting something better that will meet at least the minimum specs for CoH.

I completely spaced on coming in to update this thread once I-17 hit open beta.

So here's what to expect once I-17 goes live.

Everything in the first post is now false.

All of the known issues are gone. Except for possibly the 9200/Grandville/Geometry Buffers issue. If you're still running on a 92** series card... seriously, upgrade, please. Toss that thing in the trash. Oh, sorry, I mean, "recycle it responsibly."

FSAA and AF will need to be controlled by the game. Set them both to Let Application Decide in the CCC. Upgrade your drivers.

Last I checked, Ambient Occlusion is not playing nicely with FSAA on ATI 5 series cards and possibly the 4 series as well. Pick which one you like more and kill the other. I, of course, will be killing AO.

On the day that I-17 goes live, I'm going to request that this thread be unstickied. It's usefulness is finally and thankfully at an end.

I just logged off of test where I was getting 30-60 FPS in Grandville with 100% world detail, running at 1920X1200, FSAA 4X, AF 16X, all ultra mode settings at max except AO and DoF which are disabled. This is with an ATI 5870 on Win 7-64bit with 6GB RAM and an I-7 920 proc OCed to 3.2GHz.

All praise to Satan. Hail, Cthulhu, may he eat you last.

Be well, people of CoH.

Hi can anyone help me out here. I upgraded my Nvidia 8800gtx to a ATI Radeon HD5870 at the weekend. All games running fine with the exception of COX. Anytime I left click on the screen, the screen flashes like there is an application running in the background, or like the taskmanager is open or somthing. After 5 mins, the game just plain disapears. No crash, no stall, it just goes straight back to desktop, like the game was never open. This is the same in the normal game, and in the test server.

Thanks for any info you might have guys, or some way to steer myself.

Could be several things but I'm going to shoot for low hanging fruit:

Did you install the drivers that came with the cd for your new 5870, or did you install the latest drivers directly from ati.amd.com? The second choice is the correct one.

Did you verify that your current power supply is beefy enough to handle the 5870?

Did you completely strip out all the Nvidia drivers prior to installing the 5870?

Be well, people of CoH.

Well Mr. Bubba, I just wanted to let you know how helpful your posts were to me - I recently switched to an ATI 5870 and thanks to you, I got right back in the game after installing my new card.

Can't wait to see how it looks in UM!

I think the fact that there is still an issue with FSAA and the HD 5xxx and HD 4xxx series cards is a good enough reason NOT to unsticky this thread. Not to mention some of the other stuff that has come up lately (Such as a the 92XX issue, the Windows 7 Alt+tab issue, etc.)

Either that or create a new ATI Issues thread with updated information.

Just a thought

I've had that same request made by others as well. We'll see. 10.4s still aren't out yet, at least for Win7-64bit.

Wednesdays are usually driver release days for ATI, so they SHOULD be releasing the 10.4 drivers today. However, since Issue 17 will be live any minute, here's a link to the 10.4a preview drivers. The drivers themselves are actually newer than what will be in the WHQL package, and are also newer than the previous 10.4 preview drivers. Please note that while all home versions of XP, Vista, and Win7 are covered by these drivers, laptops are not. This means that those of you using laptops will need to wait for the Mobility drivers included in the 10.4 WHQL should you want to update your drivers for Issue 17.

GBE, do the 10.4a drivers correct the AO vs FSAA issue?
