ATI Issues and Settings Recommendations
I am begining to think the same thing, Faou. ATI is not worth it. If I hadn't sunk $90 into this card I would junk it now. Suffice to say I am thinking of going back to nVidia myself as soon as I can find the money. For me even the work around didn't work - nothing has.
I'm sure this is old news by now, but I couldn't find it in this thread. Per GhostRaptor, an upcoming patch will contain an ATI 'fix.' Hate to say it, but I'm not holding my breath.
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
And what, pray tell, is this Known Issue? And why the hell didn't anyone mention it on the US forums?
[ QUOTE ]
Glad to hear you've got yourself back into the game now.
The issue with the newest ATI drivers having problems is known and a fix for that should be coming through in a near-future update.

Interesting thread. Looks like Omegas are once again the way to go as per our European brethren.
Doing some digging on their forums to see if anything else of interest pops up.
Edit: Nope. Nothing of note.
Be well, people of CoH.
I'm wondering if the "fix" GhostRaptor is referring to is the Catalyst 8.1 release. Billz, you mentioned in another thread that the betas for Vista were out. Did you happen to notice the release notes?
-Wolf queries
Edit: They're out now (for Vista anyway). From the release notes:
Crap! My bad. Didn't notice they (AMD) haven't updated the link yet. Release Notes link still points back to Cat 7.12 Driver release.
8.1s are out for XP as well.
I dunno, Wolf. It seemed to me that GhostRaptor was implying it was a known issue on NCSoft's side of things.
Perhaps if someone at NCSoft had some information, they could come in and share it with us. Someone like the current graphics engine lead, perhaps.
As for AMD not updating links, when you are at the OS, Card Type selction screen and hit Next, the tab that pops up still says 7.11 as well.
Be well, people of CoH.
Yeah, I know. For my rig (XP Professional/Home - All-In-Wonder - X1800 series) it still flashes the Catalyst 7.9 page before redirecting.
Anyway, they did fix the release notes links. No mention of CoX that I saw.

This might prove interesting for some:

Catalyst 8.1 introduces MultiView support. This feature provides for hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering across multiple graphics adapters.

Other than that, I see nothing of note.

I was hoping that, if I mentioned it, you ATI smarty pants would find something good for us technically challenged. Ah, well. Thanks anyways--and I appreciate it very much, Bill and Wolf.

I can't get the AA to work at all without Omega drivers... with them I get more frames per second and a nice, sharp AA. I have an ATI Radeon X1900XTX 512MB, so it's hardly a lower-end card. I'll switch back and forth between the cats and omegas as it suits me.

I'm using the 7.9's and when I played earlier this week AA seemed to broken while in COH. I set AA via the ATI control panel and I have bloom, water, etc all disabled in game.
As a heads up, I've requested that this thread be unstickied. In light of the fact that the most recent Catalysts set to N/A Bloom, Depth of Field and Desaturation effects, and that the data in the OP is 6 months old, this thread has outlived its usefulness.
Be well, people of CoH.
So when are you gonna make a new one, Devil Man?
I won't be writing another one.
I advise all users of ATI video cards to open a ticket with NCSoft support for any problems they may have with this game. Following the guidance of a non-professional to work around issues is detrimental to the goal of resolution.
I also ask that any reference to prior guides I have written be avoided for future seekers of information/support, as such outdated information will more likely exacerbate issues rather than aid those seeking assistance.
If no resolution can be found through proper channels, perhaps they should write a letter to Richard Garriott directly.
Be well, people of CoH.
Thanks for your efforts, BillZ. You went above and beyond the call, for sure. I know your guide helped me with my ATI card.
I hope the increase in tech support tickets about ATI issues will prompt them to do some real fixing.
Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.
So, I guess I am switching to ATI at just the wrong time?
Got too good a deal on a 2900Pro to pass up, pretty much doubling my performance. I should get familiar with opening a ticket then?
Rend this space....
Probably, if you're havin' issues... and you will, apparently.
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.
This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

My mistake was thinking a Mobility Radeon meant I COULD swap it our for a better model when it came along!

FSAA, set by the ATI control panel, is definitely not working for me now.
Billz,
I just gotta say a friend pointed me to this guide and another of yours regarding performance - not only have you made my game better, but the PC is all around happier. thanks so much!

Enhancement Screens and X1*** series cards
If you have an X1*** series card, (may be present with the 2*** series cards as well, but this has not been verified by this author) either on the normal enhancement screen, or when putting enhancements into slots during a respec, the cursor becomes erratic when placed on the enhancement icons. In order to grab enhancements, you must have the cursor above and left of where it should be.
[/ QUOTE ]Is there any workaround to this? And before anyone says it, no, changing video cards is not an option, I'm using a laptop.

So I put my old puter back togther with my x1950xt. Loaded up the latest drivers and for the first time ever FSAA actually works and I do not get the black screen 2x or 4x. I stil have the problems with enhancments but I can live with that.

No. And it's been proven to be a driver issue. Apparently those running *nix with *nix ATi drivers on X1+ series cards do not experience this issue.
Be well, people of CoH.
after less than two months, the new ATI 2600XT I bought just bit it. COX issues aside, I can't recommend going through all the workarounds for sub standard hardware.
I really wanted ATI to prove me wrong on this. First it was their crappy Catalyst driver set, now this... this was the second go so shame on me this time. There won't be a third.
Bill good on you for the help you provide, and i wish those of you unlucky enough to go ATI the best.
