Hey i'm libra an' a tanker!!!
what does that mean?
Lady A it takes me 4 hours to complete one of my J-Man comics. That is assuming I have all the pictures. Just imagine how long it takes to GET all those pictures. and I do all that for my own amusement, the only reason I put them up on the forums is for lawls.
Not meaning anything by it, just saying is all.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's ok, but you get lawls for it. Before this thread, there wasn't really anyone lawls for the horoscope which left me wondering if anyone did like it. I mean, why bother if no one likes it, right?
That's all. I was also kinda hoping if anyone had any ideas for something to add to the Scoop, they'd post it here.
We were also thinking of running the comic submissions that didn't win the contest, but with over 300 submissions, we can't get them all in before the next contest. There's only 52 weeks in a year.

Mine is lower and I am happy with my title hehe. I like the Scoop because it offers a pretty good variety of stuff that can appeal to a diverse crowd. Still I'd like to see a Justice interview, /em rib rib.

Hey, Kat is from Justice ya know!

Yes but Kat is insane .

It's not really a derail, I asked you to clarify and you did. I appreciate it. I agree with you that things are different now, but to me it's in a Good direction. I don't so much see favoritism as highlighting the good things people have been doing, in some cases all along. Having forum titles like that helps dispel the climate of post count snobbery and anti snobbery. But you know that too.
[/ QUOTE ]
My only real beef with the forum titles is that they only acknowledge people who currently have done something Ex Libris has noticed. There are plenty of players still around who were instrumental in making CoH the game it is today, but they don't have groovy, unique titles.

Forgive me if this has been answered before, but what is the point of the 'Featured Collector' interview? I doubt anyone got anything out of it and it just seems to be a way for people from the Fan Art section to give each other e-high fives. If it was an interview with an artist then that might be more interesting, but i doubt anyone cares why some person on the internet decided to sepnd their disposable income on a drawing of their MMO character.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well Solos it's because there is 2 sides to the Fanart section. One is the artists, and another is the collectors that get art from em. If you were to be a part of that section you'd understand. It's all about art and thats another aspect of it. Has nothing to do with high fives.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm with TA on this. Art Collectors serve the important purpose of supporting artists and art. Art Collectors also provide a viewport to a variety of different artists out there and I know I've pitched an idea to TA once or twice looking for advice on appropriate artist whose style best fits the piece. Without both art collectors and artists the fanart section would be pretty lifeless.
What is the problem with this title issue? I don't have a problem with it. I contributed to the scoop and I don't have a unique title. Nor do I want one. I'd rather NOT have one so I can be proof that not EVERYONE is getting a title from submitting or being part of the Scoop. Let's get off the title issue and lets get some true constructive feedback.
This is just a general note about the Scoop ~
As a former Editor and Proofreader, the misspellings and lapses in grammar really jump out at me. I realize this is all volunteer and everyone makes typos -- I commit them all the time -- but I keep seeing the same issues crop up: plurals that have apostrophe-s, common misspellings, tense changes, etc. It detracts from my enjoyment to see those things, so I tend to avoid reading publications that regularly have them.

AND that was a very constructive post! Guess the teams may need a proof reader. Wanna volunteer, Ironik?

For someone like myself, there is only one horoscope worth reading and that's this one. I usually find it to be a lawl and a half.
I do usually peek at yours since your name is on it, but seeing it's being played "straight," I usually move on.
It does seem, though, that much like there is a large number of CoX subscribers and only a small percentage of them visit the forums, so too there might be a large number of City Scoop readers and only a few post feedback. So ultimately it might be tough to guage the feedback from the audience for that one particular feature.
Any fanzine has a multitude of articles in it, though. That you are part of that multitude is better than not having you part of that multitude, if that makes sense. If you do eventually get sick of the horoscope, please try another column concept. As far as traditional fanzines go, we're still missing reviews, how-to's, personal essays, doodles, and fanfic, so there's still stuff to do.

We are working on correcting our proofreading problem Last week was the first time we had an organized proofreading process (IIRC) and hopefully we'll be getting better at it in the next couple of weeks.
We're kinda figuring this out as we go along, as far as what procedures for getting the issue out work best and such.

Ok, that's cute. I didn't know I had confused Satan so often.
Thanks.
So do you want a horiscope like this?
Brute: Today you will aquire many pieces of valuable salvage, but alas, with your limited intellect you sold it all for 100 Inf a piece.
Blaster: Don't go out today. The statues of Paragon have seen your backside long enough because of your numerous faceplants. Try going out in a month from now.
Tank: expect many friends today! People will ask you to team with them, but be wary, it's not because of your bubbly personality!
Are those the kind you want?
Sorta kinda. Most of all, I want the entire world to cater to my tastes, because, y'know, it should. (The brute one was good, though...)
Seriously, though, simply ripping off The Onion probably wouldn't do since it's been done (and they're probably ripping off someone else). But they have kept doing theirs every single week for years, even though everyone knows the gag. I also used to watch Bugs Bunny every week knowing full well what would happen. I enjoy predictable comedy.
Should the horoscope _be_ comedy? That sounds like an editorial decision, much like target audience, publication schedule, etc. I just left feedback since this (IIRC) is the 2nd time Lady_Athyna was wondering about it.
Ultimately, I prefer that City Scoop exists, and find the fanzine approach preferable to something like Paragon Times.

Just to note, like Frost said, we're getting better at catching it in our own stuff all the time. However, we kick back and forth whether we ought to be doing the same in interview answers. Chances are, if there's a grammar error you see in an interview, it's from the person being interviewed. It's an ongoing debate we have. We are doing our best, between having more people check each piece, to talking about other more organized ways to mark up pieces for the final.

I really wan to address the *clique* issue here. And the fluff/puff stuff . Some time in May, I think it was, I sent a little letter off to Ex, explaining my wish to create a site dedicated to the food of MMOs. I have a degree in Culinary Arts and an obsession with creative food. Ex very nicely said that the Scoop might have a spot for me, though my idea did not break the EULA. I got the the Scoop and was given a VERY warm welcome.
Not to give away any trade secrets, but we have a thread on the Scoop's board, where we kick around ideas and set up our editing process, call the Application Thread. In this thread, individual Scoopies bring posters to the rest of our attention. These applicants are people who PM Marican_Tobay or people who's posts we read and think that they would make a good addition to the group. We are also BEGGING for outside submissions, constructive criticism and general help. How can that be elitist?
Our interview process? I even asked about that. I was told to hop on a server and broadcast that I was interviewing. It may work for BtM, but it didn't work for me. I ended up posting on the RP boards and got a bunch of nibbles. They happen to be from the same people who are interested in writing for the Scoop or have submitted things in the past.
As for my posting number? I joined the Scoop with about 8-10 posts, almost all of my posting has been done on the Scoop boards.
I think I will step off this soap box, for now. Thanks for all the kudos and the constructive opinions.

In my opinion the recent interviews with Freedom about the server trouble from double experience weekend were laughable and just plain hurt to read, from my point of view. It came across very narrow in scope and the tilt and angle just made me shake my head, but it wasn't that surprising either in a way.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think "Double XP, Double DC" was the finest piece of news reporting the Scoop has done to date. Hertz actually went out among the players present and asked them about their experiences; he gathered input from a wide range of characters and wrote the article in a coherent and straightforward fashion. The reporting was timely and accurate, and managed to stay objective in a topic that can cause many players' temperatures to rise.
I'm not going to claim that the Scoop can appeal to everyone all the time, but picking on this particular article baffles me, because both Double XP weekend and the lag and connectivity issues that went with it affected just about the whole player base to some extent.

Is there some sort of an application process to be interviewed? and do ya'all do in character interviews for roleplayers like myself?
Interviews for news stories are literally 'man on the street' where the reporter goes to a server and talks to people.
Interviews for Behind the Mask are picked, based on different criteria depending on what Teldon wants to cover.
An in character version of Behind the Mask doesn't make much sense to me...

Basically BtM folks are picked based how on drunk I am and who my cat tells me too. Character interviews will be started soon.

Newspapers, magazines and online periodicals correct the grammar of submissions all the time, whether written interviews, poetry pieces or letters to the editor. There's generally an established policy as to what gets corrected and what doesn't. If they're feeling particularly cheeky, sometimes they use the indicator "[sic]" to show that the mistake comes from the original person, but that would be antithetical to something like the City Scoop.
The only time I can think it would be appropriate is if the person submitting the work was using incorrect spelling for a purpose. But even then, different periodicals have different standards. My mom submitted a short prose piece about what Recovery Room nurses do to RN magazine, and they altered her folksy "just sittin'" tag to the correct, "just sitting." It was better in the original, in my opinion, but it's their magazine and ultimately their call.
I think you should be doing it for interview answers, as well, because they usually don't intend to misspell a word. They just made a mistake.
