lol yeah, but its not too bad. Ive crossed about 3 miles of land in about 5 minutes of running, and you can pay to ride a horse to major cities or places you've been that have Stables, very convienint

Its too bad they didnt add anything new in terms of mmo gameplay ...graphics are nice, but mmo's are longerterm things (so they need more to keep players coming back)

I've always wondered what the epic quests were like, and feared. Here's my impression;
Gandulf: (Broadcast) "N E 1 else got teh 'One Ring' quest? LFG if U do."
Legolass22: "Hey, I have the One Ring too. Let's group up."
Gandulf: "N-vite me, nub."
Fro-doh: "Nub? Heh... I did that quest last week. It's cake if you take the secret passage through Shelob's lair, near Minas Morgul. If you need help, check out Allakhazam - I did a full writeup on it."
GimlEE-69: "Hey, I have the One Ring too. Can I join ya?"
Boromiiir: "I also have a One ring. Invite plz."
(And thus, Tolkien begins to spin in his grave...)
After 9 months of LOTR being out, Tolkin's spinning body will create such a force that the earth will colapse upon itself.
We will deserve it.

Actually they've done a number of new things. They've incorporated a pretty cool "doom" mood feature when things get pretty intense in your surroundings. Monster play is a nice take on PVP that you won't find in WoW or EQ. They've got a more indepth 'badge/title' system than most that even effects gameplay. It's similar to CoH accolades, there's just a ton more. And there's been rumors of other things like player blogs etc. We'll just have to see what it launches with and what's still to come.
Of course there are a lot of the common elements in there, but at least they are trying to push a little bit.
I wouldn't be too worried about their success, they've already got a HUGE fan following before they even launch the thing. All they have to make sure is that it's not broken. And from what I've seen it's not.
I'm not saying WoW has to worry, but it will make a dent in that market. It's a solid, well done game.

LOL nice. Shouldn't worry too much, the players don't ever carry the ring. They interact with the main characters, but aren't really a part of "the quest".
And one GREAT thing they did with the name generator is they completely don't allow l33t names. No numbers, or symbols allowed in the names. Biggest thing I'm worried about is since they're allowing pre-orders to carry names over from beta is that all the decent names will already be gone. When I got on recently, after trying several names I thought no one would have I ended up with "Nonamesleft" as my character name.
As far as the spinning in the grave...yeah maybe a little

Nah, the earth won't collapse. It's all part of the Renewable Energy Initiative. See what happens is big corportations take famous and popular works of fiction, bastardize them so they appeal to the lowest common denominator, and then turn them into video games. This causes the remains of the original authors of said literature to spin in their graves. Then, the REI attaches magnets to the rapidly spinning corpses and then places large coils of copper wire around them. Thus, we have a limitless source of free energy! Tolkin is only the beginning. Currently in development are The Adventures of Hucleberry Finn Online, Call of the Wild: The Revenge of Jack London!, and In Dubious Battle: Fight for your right to Commie.

My first thought as well. It sure is pretty but I wouldn't want to have to hike across it all day, every day.

All kidding aside I may have to check this out. I'm afraid my computer may not be up to the task.
Turbine always does a nice sky. That's something sorely missing in City of Heroes.
However, those graphics do NOT look very impressive to me. I can't tell what goes on with animations but... honestly that looks a lot like Asheron's Call 2 graphics. I took this shot back in January 2003. Same water effects, same shadows, and they let you see the grass around you (though it killed most video cards). Yes, even nice sunrises.
For an MMO coming out right now, I would expect the graphics I saw in single player games about a year and half ago. Maybe not Oblivion class graphics but certainly comparible. Heck, our shadows aren't as good but in many ways, I think CoH looks a lot better.
