"So what are we gonna do then?" Workout Man now stood next to Hallucinogen, wondering exactly why E had called him in.

(( Hmm... Wow, that was smart of me. I never even THOUGHT of the timeline... Pfft, this is most definately one of the ways that 2.0 differs from me. Well... I would have to say the most convenient time for you peoplez... Blargh, me and my lack of foresight... ))

Experiment leaned on his computer tiredly. "Ugh... I really haven't figured out anything solid yet... But I was planning on figuring out who the hell this was first. All I really have to do is fill in the outline that PDA has set." 2.0 muttered, turning to his computer. "However, I also have a slight problem there. Everytime I go outside, either to save people or find out more info about this, I feel like I am being watched, and rarely are my instincts wrong."

2.0 hurried over to his desk again, sifting through the drawers. "I did manage to destroy something that was monitering me, a drone. Some kind of battle drone, that seemed intent on getting whatever he had gotten on his surveillance back to his boss. However, I retrieved the core..." He pulled out an almost entirely destroyed piece of tech. "However, it was armed with a proximity bomb."

He threw the junk away, and picked out a small chip. "I DID managed to get the surveillance out before its destruction, though. So far, all I have figured out are some VERY rough coordinates. I think they are where the drone was ordered to return to after it finished its job."

2.0 pointed at the screen. PDA automatically switched the screen to a live surveillance of a tiny speck.

"That is the coordination. I believe that is where my answers are, but I can't be sure. It is an island, quite far, almost in the middle of nowhere. I sent two drones. This one stayed well over 50 miles away. The one that got within 50 miles... Well, let us just say that I have NEVER seen a force-field able to entirely vaporize something on contact before."

2.0 sat at his desk, resting his head on his hands in an "I am thinking, leave me alone" way.

"Hmm... Maybe the Experi-jet... No... Boat-2.0? No, no... Experi-skis? Hell no..."

"Sounds nasty," Toy said as he put his chin in his hand. "If you want, I can ring up Archlich. He might be able to get us in magically."

"And tell me more about this Assault Bot Two," Combat Toy said icily.

2.0 took a second to react, and stood. "Hmm... He IS rather skilled... Ugh... Well, if it is simple to get a hold of him, you may as well. We may need all the help we can get."

"And, to the assault bot back there, I know VERY little about the Mark II Alpha Assault Drone Prototype other than where some of its devices and weaponry is. Don't worry, if we find it, you can destroy it..." He put his hand up in a "Wait a sec..." way now. "Uh... AFTER, I have taken it apart and found out how it works."

((Well. I shall say it comes BEFORE Crown of Thorns. Otherwise, everyone would know something that might come up occasionally and that I really can't tell you.))

"Well, I'm ready when everyone else is," Hal said.

Static smiled. "Old Dr. Kaos has a place out there. He's stashed some cloaking devices and a coupla Titan robots he stole. I can get him to cover us on our way in." Static smiled. Yup, he knew what was going on. Still, better he keep it to himself.

((Okay then. If nobody has any objections, then the timeline will be before CoT, and after 24HV.))

Experiment nodded toward Hal, and then realized something.

"Oh, duh. I almost forgot." He used his right hand to motion for the others to follow, walking through his lab, going through a small workshop, passing a room with huge generators that gave off energy, and came to two huge, steel doors.

A retinal scanner ejected from the wall, and 2.0 put his eye to it. It scanned, and the doors hissed as they opened automatically.

Even when the doors were about three inches open, the others may notice the many weapons and devices inside.

It was the armory.

"Madre de pane tostada!" Ginstar uttered, peering over his sunglasses at the array of weapons.

Essex took Prikker's hand semi-firmly with a worried look on her face. It wouldn't do to lose one's head in a room with so many weapons...

Experiment turned toward Ginstar, frowning. "Let me just ask... Did the doc create you guys with toast on the brain? Just asking..."

However, his serious demeanor returned when the door had finally fully opened. He walked past most of the things on the walls, putting another code into another panel. It opened, showing a glass case, electricity flowing around it in a sort of field. Inside, was a device, seemingly trapped.

"That, my friends, is a force-field generator. For those that do not know, which I assume are few, a force field generator creates a field of energy capable of protecting anyone it is assigned to in a small radius. I have been configuring it to protect the people I assign, and I think I finally got it."

He walked to a console to the right of the case. "I think this is how whoever is on that island gets things in and out of the field. If you are able to take this with you, you may be able to get through undetected."

2.0 peered over to the trolls. "...Which, for some, is most likely a rarity."

"Okay, then. . ." Hal said. "So when do we leave?"

Ginstar grinned. "S is just rubbin' off on me is all. Wanna see something cool? Lemme show you why we make toast jokes around her all the time."

Essex pouted. "Don't...--"

"Watch this." Ginstar grabbed up Essex's left hand and held it above her head. "Hold still, chica."

"Ginstar, stop it!!" Essex whined as she was lifted into the air by her hand, kicking her legs feebly. Pulling a slice of bread out of his pocket, Ginstar pushed a button on Essex's left buster. A pair of slots opened, and he shoved it in. The panel closed, and he dropped her with a squeak.

"Don't you think there's more important things to do?" Essex mumbled as her buster glowed red. Turning to Expiriment, she sighed. "So this force field generator will help us evade the sensors on the island? Okay...that sounds like a--"

She was interrupted by a popping sound as the bread ejected from her buster, lightly toasted.

"That's what I'm talkin' about." Ginstar said, patting her on the head, and scooping up the toast.

"You live to embarass me, don't you..." Essex pouted.

Experiment very nearly snickered, if he hadn't been trying to keep his composure. "Uh... Yeah, the... Heh... The force field should not only keep you from being detected, but also entirely vaporized by the field."

Kevin in the back, however, lost HIS composure entirely. He dropped to the floor, laughing. "HAH! Dude, she is a freakin' TOASTER! Why did you never tell me, E?! HAH! *Snort*!"

Hal chuckled in spite of himself. "Well. . . I must say, it is awfully hard these days to find a toaster that actually works properly. That could be useful."

Essex shrunk to the corner, appropriating a tablecloth to drape over her head.

Ginstar folded his arms, tapping his own busters with a smirk. "So we will all have to stay in a small area, right? In order to be properly protected by the generator." Tapping his chin, he glanced up. "....When we're shielded by the generator, will we be detectable by heat sensors or sonar or anything like that?"

"Uh... Crap." muttered 2.0, kicking the ground. "I KNEW I had forgotten something... The field is invisible to thermal, and cloaks from normal sight, but other, less common forms of surveillance may be able to notice you..."

Experiment started walking around the FF Generator in a circle, thinking out loud. "The tech is too confusing for me to recalibrate its usages. I can only designate targets to protect. Perhaps if I had maybe, three months... Damn... Okay, okay, there has to be a way around it..."

He turned toward the group after completing his third circle. "Does anyone here have any ideas? My brain still hurts from working all night."

***************

"WHEEEE!!" shouted the replica of John Ballard, still continuously spinning around in the chair. By now, everyone working there knew to stick to the walls, or be hit by the spinning clone.

He managed to reach the edge of the stairs, and was soon careening downward, smashing into walls, and down all of the stairways.

"Wheee-- *Crunch* --Eeee-- *Snap*--- ...Ee? *Splurge*"

"Well. . ." Hallucinogen said. "I don't know. . . my radiation can prevent any kind of detection, but. . . it doesn't work on anything without a mind. See, it basically erases knowledge of my presence from the minds of anyone around. . . or something like that . . . would be great, if I didn't suspect robots would be the biggest problem. . ."

Dang it. Did EVERYONE have robots these days?

Prikker quivered, barely restraining himself from diving upon the weaponry.

Reikoff shrugged.

"We have a few Chameleon Suits ourselves...And some devices to nullify our body heat..."

He paused.

"Oh, wait, you're not authorized for those. You're on your own."

Allen Fang stared out to seat at the far shoreline of Paragon City, letting the icy morning wint rush through his matted gray fur. The Necrian bore the appreanrance of a werewolf, but whout the bulk genrally associated with the creatures.

Heavy boots echoed clearly on the rig's metal grating as a Captain stepped up beside him, clad in the same simple back uniform as him. Though technically an officer, Allen had never seen the need for placing any distinguishing marks from his troopers. They were his team. They were his freinds. And they were his equals.

"We're back on schedule, Sir. The supply disruption caused a few delays, but I think we can fix it if we increase the hollow-conductor's capacity by fifteen percent."

"Good. Any word on what hit the dropship yet?"

The Captain shook his head, "SENECA thinks it must've collided with another cloaked ship. The odds of that are ridiculously small, but if that's the only thing she can come up with..."

"...then it's most likely it really happened." Allen finished, pushing off the railing, and started walking back to the door in the hub. He didn;t say a word as he thought about th incident - something had knocked one of their cloaked resupply dropships right out of the air. It hadn't been damaged, but the delay it caused had been extremely annoying. If they were going to keep their timetable, they had to drill a lot faster now.

As Allen stepped into the control hub, he was handed a black stick that projected a hologram.

"Hm." he commented, handing the thing back, then turned to the Captain again, "SENECA's idea just became a whole lot more. Gotta love the US government."

The Captain looked at the hologram, labeled 'OmniSat 5 Feed', which showed a patterned effect moving through the dropship's path at the time in question.

"That measn we gotta make sure whoever owns said ship didn't get wind of what this rig's really up to."

"Right." Allen nodded, "Today's mankind can't know about First Humanity - not yet."

"On it, Sir." the Captain saluted, "I'll get a team together right away."

"Thanks, but I'll be taking care of this one personally..."

The night-black combat assault raft sped along its course, easily hopping waves that should have toppled it. Stealthy and almost silently, not propelled by something so noisy as propeller, the craft almost slid along the water's surface.

The boat was on course for a certain unidentified island, carrying three unassuming gray figures...

The heavy footsteps of some sort of drone made its way through a long row of halls, mostly full of technology, devices, and even more drones. It came to a large blast door, which opened quickly with a loud hiss.

It stepped in, its audio receptors becoming jammed, so as to mess up any recordings, and shutting its visual receptors off.

It quickly hooked itself up to the main computer of the room, showing a video feed of the Paragon City Times in Steel Canyon. Red squares highlighted the arriving heroes and villains.

"Hmm... So, John decided to call in help... He acts as if it can possibly help him." muttered a dark figure. "It matters not. Begin audio feed to MAAD."

The Mark II Alpha Assault Drone prototype suddenly activated, deep inside the facility. The mysterious voice spoke.

"You will prepare for battle. Arm yourself with Seeker Drones, explosives, Drone Dispenser, and Photon Rifle."

The device nodded, its recharging power lines receeding into their respective sockets. It circled the room, picking up the identified devices and weaponry.

"Set two seekers to self-destruct on contact, and sharpen the blades of the other five. Let us see if 2.0 and his 'allies' can anticipate an odd number of those Seekers, shall we?"

Outside the facility, three turrets simultaniously caught movement, closing in on the island. It sent an image to the mastermind inside. "Hmm... Odd... As far as my surveillance shows, 2.0 and his friends have not left the PCT... Who are they?... Drone, commence 'First Contact' protocol."

With that, the same drone that brought back the surveillance left the room, its functions coming back fully, having no recording of its master's visual or auditory existance. It walked forward, jumping swiftly through a jet-space, out of the facility, and jetting toward the incoming boat.

Static looked at Experiment with awe. "Hmmm, I stole a stealth suit from Longbow just the other day."

Workout Man sighed. "I aint got nothing."

((So are they attacking us yet?))

Posted

((Oh, no way. Nothing will attack the heroes until A: They pose a threat, or B: The guy decides he doesn't want to see 2.0 alive anymore. ))

2.0 frowned.

"Okay, okay, we're good... We can just, you know, fly in really fast and try and avoid things, right?"

Posted

"Well yeah i could.... That's it!' Workout Man stood up. "Is it possible to make your molecules move so fast they just go through something? Maybe I could super speed through the barrier and run recon for ya."

Static walked over to the tanker. "Tap tap, is there anything in there?" He lightly tapped the man's head from behind, accidentally shocking him and making his hair stand up. "You would be completely exhausted after doing that and you might not be able to slow your molecules back down you idiot!"

Posted

"Plus," commented the armoured hero, checking the status of the generator quickly, "You would have a VERY long way to go to even get to the island after getting through the field. I doubt you could use enough power to get through, and get to the island, and THEN not drown."

Posted

Well, to make it easier, I can phase shift, and if you want me to bring the others through I can teleport you guys through." Shinji thought a bit then said, "Also, I can fly I guess Ill just have to carry the ones who can't if we try to bring everyone in."

Toy dropped his hand down from where it had been placed against his right sattelite link-up and walked to the fore of the group.

"Archlich won't be able to help," Toy said. "He's tangling with some mage hero right now, could barely spend the time to tell me to shut up and buzz off. And if hare-brained stunts have become an option, I could always load the lot of us into some orbital entry pods and blast us down to that island. My teleporter is certainly powerful enough to carry all of us up to my manufactory."

Toy paused for a moment and looked around.

"And, uh, where's Essex and why do I detect toast?"
